Boston & Maine RR
The first picture is of the "Talgo Train" which is headed by Fairbanks Morse engines. It was of Spanish design but was not well liked by the passengers. There was a locomotive on both ends. The entire train acted like a single articulated unit. It was in service from 1958 to 1964. I got to ride it once with my dad. I believe this picture was taken in the 1950s as you can see the coaling towers to the left of the train. The B&M ceased all steam operations in 1956.
The second is the B&M "Flying Yankee." It was built in 1935 by the Budd company. It was the only one they bought but its mordern design, for 1935, made it very popular.

RDC Budd Cars of the Boston & Maine Railroad
The Boston & Maine was one of the first buyers of the Budd RDCs. In time, the B&M bought 110 of these units which was far and away the largest purchase of any railroad. It included RDC-1. RDC-2. RDC-3, and RDC-9. The 2 model had a baggage area, the 3 model was as Postal Coach which took up half of the car. The RDC-9 unit had a single engine in it and could not be used as a control car as it lacked that equipment. The RDC-2 had a single extra door on its side while the RDC-3 had two extra doors as seen in the first picture.

Fine sight Friday. Looking like a shot of the old days (except for the AUX tender), Union Pacific FEF-3 844 is seen crossing a small bridge at Boone, Iowa on September 9th 2012 with an excursion. Photo belongs to Loadstone.

Arcade & Attica 18: Fall Foliage Trains with a Japanese Whistle 2026 (4K)
Last weekend, I went to the Arcade and Attica Railroad to film locomotive 18 during a day of Fall Foliage Trips. Typically, the railroad operates two to three trips during the fall season. The colors were just starting to show here in Western New York. The real bonus that day was that 18 was wearing a guest whistle, a JNR 5 Chime, which hasn't been on a locomotive in years. So join me trackside for a day of fall foliage excursions along the Arcade and Attica Railroad.
