I would like to share my local knowledge of Temecula hikes, and also see if anyone has good recommendations matching the criteria below, even if it's just a quiet wine country dirt road that's public or is possible to get owner permission for respectful access for dogwalking or even just hiking.
What inspired this: there was a post a few months ago here with beautiful photos of someone dogwalking on the dirt section of La Serena Way heading east into Wine Country from Butterfield Stage Rd, and when I went to check it out last weekend, there is now a "NO TRESPASSING" sign.
Frustratingly, many local hikes have become private property in the past few years:
-De Luz Overlook, now private property and it even had an adjacent hill where you can see a sliver of the ocean, from Temecula! Was off of Ridge Park Drive/Vincent Moraga Drive.
-De Portola Rd starting from Butterfield Stage Park: now under construction. It was a nice dirt road to walk on.
-Temecula to Vail Lake Overlook and Oak Mountain hike which is BLM land but the accesses are private: https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/california/temecula-to-vail-lake-overlook-and-oak-mountain (For this one I actually do have access permission from an alternate entrance, but the drive is roughly an hour round trip.)
-The "951" mountain biking trails on the west side of Temecula below Rancho CA Rd, now that there's new construction I'm not aware of how to access. (Not good for dogs anyways since need to quickly watch out for mountain bikers but it was nice to hike on). https://www.trailforks.com/region/951-trails-12888/
I'm trying to find local hikes that are NOT an hour-ish round trip drive, to hike or dogwalk at after work in the winter before sunset. Real trails or dirt roads, no paved paths or adjacent to frequent road traffic.
................................................
Top contenders that don't fit the bill, because trying to reach them before the winter sunset after work from south Temecula, especially near wine country:
-My favorite if I have more time: French Valley Wildlife Area, technically in Winchester, because it's like an hour round-trip drive: https://wildlife.ca.gov/Lands/Places-to-Visit/French-Valley-WA
-Dripping Springs: only 15 minutes to drive to, but the long walk from the parking lot from the paved street to the actual trail is a bummer and eats too much time.
-Vail Lake: also close by, but they charge a fee for entry ($10 per person for hiking weekdays and $15 on weekends!) and sometimes have a line to get in which also eats time. I don't think the lake itself is reachable/visible at all on foot by sunset from the parking lot.
................................................
Honorable mentions, mostly Murrieta or otherwise too far away for me:
-Sykes Ranch: https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/california/sykes-ranch-park-loop
-Santa Rosa Plateau, like an hour round-trip and they charge a fee
-Sylvan Meadows
-Murrieta Overlook, you start on the Wishal Trail to Cole Canyon but once crossing the usually dry creek, you make a right instead of a left and climb up: https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/california/wiashal-trail-loop-to-cole-canyon
-Santa Margarita River
-Monserate Mountain, not that far away but I really don't like you can hear the highway for most of the intro and I don't think you can summit and return by sunset.
-Los Alamos Loop: https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/california/rancho-los-alamos-loop
-Durham Loop Trail:
https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/california/dunham-loop-trail
+ -Iodine Springs Reserve https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/california/iodine-springs-loop

2 winners from this thread came from u/Stretchatetch
Sommers Bend - park at the sports park and there's some decent trails to walk on
Temecula Creek Trail at Temecula Creek Park is also good. Besides the main trail there are more dirt trail offshoots https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/california/temecula-creek-park

A week or so ago I shared Senior Support Finder here and got some really useful feedback from people in the area.
Since then I’ve been working through the things people pointed out.
A few examples:
The directory is now at 100 local providers and community resources across Temecula Valley and Southwest Riverside County.
If you’re helping a parent, grandparent or older neighbor, I’d love for you to try it again:
Search for the problem the way you’d actually say it.
If something still gives you a bad result, no result, or information that looks wrong, tell me. I’m actually using those searches and comments to decide what gets fixed or added next.

So i started a business (LLC) on the side and need accounting help. I use quick books to track mileage and to send estimates and invoices. I provide a product that I make and do charge sales tax.
I have basically kept about 65 percent of all the money ive made this year to pay taxes at the end of the year. The time is coming and need a recommendation for an accountant near me.

I know it's still pretty far from the election, but don't forget to vote! Especially if you are younger. Carefully review everything on your ballot and do research, first. For the ballot initiatives/propositions, the information in the voter guide/sample ballot is very helpful. (The photo is of current ballot returns for the city of Temecula).
Also, if you want to make sure that your ballot is received if you drop it off or mail it, you can sign up receive alerts here: https://www.sos.ca.gov/elections/ballot-status/wheres-my-ballot

Anyone that keeps their dogs outside during these storms are sociopaths. I don’t care if you think your canopy or tiny dog house with zero insulation is enough. Maybe you should spend some time outside in your undies with a chain around your neck. 🤬

Hi, I'm William Woodrome and I'm running for Rancho California Water District.
I am not an incumbent and I am not a career politician.
When I’m elected to the Rancho California Water District, I have an agenda in mind.
First: dynamic water sourcing. With changing water resources and shifting availability, relying on old ways of doing things won’t cut it. We must expand local stormwater capture and aggressively push Sacramento to commit more resources to Southern California. Every drop that falls here should serve the people who live here.
Second: local jobs for our next generation. I want to build a CTE program starting right in our high schools. Water management, operations, and infrastructure offer high-paying, recession-proof careers. Let’s train our own kids to protect our valley’s water.
Third: responsible development. That means a hard line against data centers. There is still much to learn about how it affects our drinking water locally. Our drinking water belongs to residents, farms, and local businesses.
Finally: complete transparency. The district does vital work, but too many residents feel disconnected from decisions that impact their rates. We need active, honest community outreach so you actually know how we are securing your future.
Please consider me William Woodrome, number two on the ballot, for Rancho California Water district.

I finally looked up why Temecula shows up on old stagecoach maps.
The Butterfield Overland Mail followed the Southern Emigrant Trail, and Temecula was one of the stops. The city's history page, quoting Tom Hudson's "A Thousand Years in Temecula Valley," says the first eastbound stage from San Francisco probably stopped here for a change of horses on the night of September 18, 1858.
A historical marker says the stagecoaches ran through Temecula from September 1858 to March 1861. They stopped at an adobe store run by John Magee, which was also Temecula's first post office.
If you could ride one leg of that route, which would you pick?

Hello all,
Long shot, but does anyone know a Chinese postpartum nanny (yuesao) near Temecula with availability in December and January? Length is TBD.
We're looking for daytime help only, not live-in. Mainly someone to cook traditional confinement meals and teach me how to make them so I can take care of my wife. Help around the house is a plus.
Recommendations or referrals appreciated. Feel free to DM me!

My wife and I have been on the keto diet and we're really struggling to find places to eat on date nights. Anyone have restaurant suggestions that have decent keto/carnivore options either in Temecula or Murrieta?

The Don’t Tread On Me ppl, the 1776 ppl, the blue lives matter ppl, the 2nd amendment ppl also seem to hate the Constitution and loudly rev their engines and drive fast to intimidate. But this past Saturday, we got to see another MAGA white middle aged man expose himself to kids and others- not an immigrant, not a queer person, not the boogeyman. Just a republican doing a little sexually predatory behavior, I guess just another Saturday to those ppl. The morally right crowd? Ewwww
Edit2- he pulled ‘it’ and stroked/waved too, only got this pic, for those that are saying ‘not that bad’. I don’t want this to get taken down and don’t have proof of that, but it was gross and noticed and didn’t think that needed to be said but whatever.. sureeee just ‘mooned’ like that’s not bad enough, a grown man showing this level of behavior. SMDH

just need to vent because I am so incredibly stressed out and feeling completely down in the dumps. I am currently 30 weeks pregnant, out on high-risk pregnancy disability leave, and paying $228 a month out of my own pocket just to keep my Kaiser premium active.
But my care has been an absolute nightmare, and I feel totally abandoned by Kaiser's lack of local, equipped infrastructure for pregnant women.
Back in my first trimester, I started bleeding/spotting while I was literally at work. Terrified, I rushed straight to the Kaiser San Marcos Urgent Care to get help. The front desk staff initiated a check-in, but the moment they heard I was pregnant and bleeding, they immediately stopped the process. They told me they were completely unequipped to handle a pregnant patient needing an ultrasound, sent me straight to the ER down the street. I sat in that ER waiting room. Because the urgent care turned me away at the door, I didn't pay a copay there.
A similar thing happened on May 9th at the Murrieta Urgent Care—they told me they couldn’t help me and sent me straight to Rancho Springs Medical Center ER. (Mind you where I live they don’t have a main hospital nearby, so I go to a networking facility that works with KP)
Now, I am drowning in surprise bills. I have an outstanding bill of $1,100 from Rancho Springs for the May 9th visit and another one from an ER visit on August 28th (where I went in for severe Second-trimester faintness, weakness, and extreme light sensitivity/neurological vision pain). On top of that, Kaiser sent me a statement for $595.85 for the San Marcos ER visit
I don't have money like this to just throw around while living on limited disability income. Why am I paying a high monthly premium if I am forced into the ER for basic, high-risk obstetric monitoring that should be handled at a regular urgent care for my $25 copay? For me it’s the getting turned away from urgent care and redirected to somewhere more expensive.
Has anyone else experienced this terrible care loop with Kaiser in Southern California?
Also this just leaves me defeated, as a woman that is a high risk pregnancy, not having a way to get care efficiently and cost effective is absolutely wild to me. Don’t worry I’m fighting this already with state and with Kaiser. It’s terrible they need to put adequate care into there urgent cares for pregnant woman. Period.

I’ve been in Temecula for a year and idk who to vote for. I’m not from a particular party but Im not Red! Anyway member city council D5?, Water district director, prop S and the traffic relief investment renewal. I’m not finding enough info or I’m torn. What’s your take?
