GENERAL Reminder on sub rules

This is a brief reminder that all subs on Reddit are a subject to Reddit terms of service and Reddit rules and filters, and the sub has rules which are then enforced by the moderators. Anybody who participates in this sub agrees to the rules.

We will work on improving the welcome message and making these rules and expectations clear, as well as improve some FAQs that may be helpful for new members.

The rules regarding personal attacks , personal information, ranting, and trolling are important to this sub. We have recently had some new members who seem to have difficulty with these rules and expectations. So this is a reminder for everyone that the rules are there under Group Rules, that mods are here to enforce them, that while we are moderators, we are also participants and that this is not a political debate so full impartiality of moderators is not a thing. That said, we can and do respect difference of opinion as long as that difference is within the scope of the existing rules. We’re easy to reach if anybody has a question or concern about these rules and expectations.

Having difference of opinion is fine. Expecting everybody to endlessly listen to yours and agree with it is not a realistic expectation and is precisely the sort of conduct subject to the rules noted. Anyone who objects to how the group is moderated is welcome to contact the Reddit support team through the channels it has created.

TASKER Consequences of cancellation

Hello, I've had a problem with my friends car outside the city at night so I had to cancel the task 7 hours before. In a chat I explained to the client my situation and canceled the task because I still don't know when I will get home today.

How can it affect my account/rating? This is my first cancelation in 24 hours.

CLIENT Wallpaper Fiasco - Need Advice

Post image
7 Upvotes

Ok, so I used Taskrabbit for the first time this past weekend to install peel-and-stick wallpaper in my bedroom.

I told the guy my walls were slightly textured and asked if that would be an issue. He assured me multiple times he’d done it before and it’d be fine, just that the texture might show through. Whatever, I’d already spent $500+ on Spoonflower wallpaper and wanted to use it!

He installed it, and while there were some bubbles, he gave me a smoother and said they’d settle within 24 hours. He was super nice, so I left a great review and paid ~$430.

Well, the next morning it was bubbling even more, and by the time I got home from work, almost ALL of it had fallen off. The wallpaper is now creased and won’t stick.
I contacted Taskrabbit, who said they’d have him reach out. Over 48 hours later, nothing. Support then told me that because this was my FIRST booking, I’m not eligible for a refund, only a $192 credit toward future services. I repeatedly asked for a supervisor and got scripted responses before the chat ended.

I’m 24, saved up for this, and now I’m out nearly $1,000 with nothing to show for it. I understand things happen, but this feels ridiculous.

Am I unreasonable for expecting at least some money back? Has anyone dealt with this? Or do I just need to eat the loss? Genuinely looking for outside opinions.

Edit: I don’t blame the guy completely. I just am upset with how the app has handled this. It was my first time using the app and I kind of thought I was handing it off to someone who knew better than me, but now I know to be more intentional with researching before I do any of this. I guess eating it is my fate lol.

TASKER "I didn't see the two hour minimum"

No the two hour minimum is not negotiable. I just looked it up and it says clear as day right next to my name. I don't care how long you think it will take to do the job. No I can't charge you a flat $100 fee to drive all the way to your place and mount your 60in TV in your stone wall.

These people 🙄

CLIENT Organizers - How do you like for someone to prepare for your services?

I booked my first task to organize an office and closet space and would like to know if there are any bins or shelves you find particularly useful for creating systems? I already plan to do laundry and everything beforehand.

TASKER Clients want free advice?

Anybody else get "requests" from people who just ask for professional advice and then cancel the job? What do you do about it?

Context: a person requested me to do wall repair. The brick was showing efflorescence and mortar damage. I offered to treat and seal the wall, and asked if they had investigated moisture issues. They said yes, they'd been in touch with a contractor, they just "wanted a second opinion."

My response verbatim: "Bummer. If you cancel the job, I get dinged. In the future, please don't request a Taskrabbit unless you intend for them to do the work. My pay is directly tied to how many job requests I complete, and now this one will count against me. Have a good day."

People be wanting free labor from us. All. The. Time. /smdh

APP Am I seriously being put on notice?

Post image
9 Upvotes

I have a near perfect acceptance and invoice rate and completed pretty much all my 40-50 bookings in the last month except for two: one IKEA task that was billed at about $30-35 for 3 add on pieces of an already completed Pax assembly which I thought was way underpriced for the amount of effort involved. The other being a cancellation 1 week before the appointment where the customer just voluntarily cancelled without my involvement, an ordinary not unusual situation. Is this literally all it takes to get on the naughty list?

GENERAL Task Rabbit or DoorDash?

I’ve been doordashing for extra money for years on and off, and just started considering task rabbit so I’m not upping the mileage on my car and driving for hours straight. But I haven’t even finished signing up for TR yet and want to know people’s experiences with getting paid well or not for the work they do before I pay $25, or if anyone who’s done both would recommend sticking with DD.

TASKER Painting questions

I've been getting a fair amount of painting jobs recently. How do you guys handle clean up and brush care? I've been putting them in a garage bag, individually and then cleaning when I get home. The other day I had to use multiple paint colors, morning and afternoon. So the morning brushes sat in a bag till I hit home that night. I don't clean rollers. They are always 1 time use. Thanks

CLIENT Typical response time?

This will be my first time hiring a Task Rabbit. I hired someone to come to clean my apartment tomorrow morning before my mother in law comes to visit. The messaging feature says that they should respond within an hour but it's been a few hours now. At what point do I cancel and book with somebody else? I just want to assure I can get somebody to come tomorrow morning

CLIENT Why am I constantly being rejected?

I keep booking very well rated people for a simple organization task, I message them that I’m excited to have them and options for getting to me (I’m in NYC). The first person I talk to ended up being a no-show so I had to get a refund. Now every time I book someone it keeps auto refunding me and a day or so later I get a message that the tasked can help with my task. This has happened with 4 different taskers now so I’m thinking it’s an app problem?

GENERAL What would you change about Taskrabbit?

Hey! I’m doing a bit of research on Taskrabbit and curious what annoys you most about it. Whether you’re a tasker or hire through it, what’s something that makes you think “why is it like this?” Would love to hear what happened and what you’d change.

TASKER Taskrabbit horror stories

I’ve had my share of hovering and demanding clients. The one that have you there so they feel compelled to ask you to do other task around their house, like a personal handiworker.

But today my clients mom blocked the door and would let me leave. Blocked and locked for 2 mins straight. Ok so here’s how it went, I get hired for electrical help, that task has a checklist:

Light fixtures install, Curtains removed and installed
Moving boxes from first to second floor, All within the one hour.

I mentioned if several task are needed, different booking and their rates are necessary, and time always varies.
So today I get there and the clients mom is there shows me the task and is hovering. I ask for access to the breaker she says they don’t have access to but “contractor husband” says we don’t need it, call him up and sure enough he says “yeah, no one’s gonna die” I can switch it out, at this point I’m upset my safety isn’t taken seriously but I finish it quickly and pick up my things to head out.

She leads me to the curtains, 18ft ceiling reach, 6 curtains. I’m here for electrical, you’ll have to book it separately (I knew I wouldn’t be the one matching with them after that) and she says: “No, I just need the ladder” “it will only take 5 mins, I can do it myself, I paid for an hour” Senior on my ladder? Safety liability. She’s back against the door, blocking me in and turns the lock. Like wtf! The entitlement is crazy!

I’ve had my share of hovering and demanding clients. The ones that, while they have you there, feel compelled to ask you to do other task around their house, like a personal handiworker.

But today my clients mom blocked the door and would let me leave. Blocked and locked for 2 mins straight.

Ok so here’s how it went, I get hired for electrical help, that task has a checklist:

  1. Light fixtures install
  2. Curtains removed and installed
  3. Potentially moving boxes from first to second floor.
    All within the one hour.

I mentioned if several task are needed, different booking and their rates(my rates already being in the low range) are necessary, and time always varies.

So today I get there and the clients mom is there shows me the task and is on my heels the entire time, annoying but no biggie.

I ask for access to the breaker she says they don’t have access to it but “contractor husband” says we don’t need it, calls him up and sure enough he says:
“yeah, no one’s gonna die” I can switch it out.

At this point I’m upset my safety isn’t taken seriously but I finish it quickly and pick up my things to head out.

She leads me to the curtains, I tell her yeah that’s a separate task I won’t be able to do that, I’m here for electrical, you’ll have to book it separately (I knew I wouldn’t be the one matching with them after that) and she says:

“No, I just need the ladder”(my ladder) “it will only take 5 mins, I can do it myself, I paid for an hour” I’m like no, I have to go.

She’s back against the door, blocking me in and turns the lock. Like wtf! The entitlement is crazy! For 2 mins I’m asking to leave and saying this is not ok, am I tripping?

Has anyone experienced something similar or have their own stories?

Also for the person who hired me, if you see this, no more hostages, buy a ladder.

Ok, it happened to me, my pay is late. If I work over the weekend it always comes in Wednesday, sometimes Tuesday night. This morning, nothing. I’m sure they’re busy financializing my pay somehow. Tr, I’m sure you lurk here, find some shame please

TASKER Taskr app loading issues?

Hi, is anyone having issues today?

I cant open my regional map and i cant open analytics on the app today. I also now cant open my profile without it showing "no server available."

Ive also seen a drop in requests since Sunday with maybe 1 request Monday and a potential fraud for same day today.

APP Not appearing in same-day search results

Per title, my Tasker profile literally isn’t appearing in same-day search results. I’m on like the 3rd page for non-same-day results, but when filtering for same-day, I don’t even appear at all. Never had this happen before. I tried calling customer support and they were useless. Any suggestions?

CLIENT Where to post a pipe insulation task?

I'm not sure where to post a request for a pipe insulation/wrapping project. Pipes are under house, in crawl space. Not sure if this is Home Repair, Mounting, or what.

It may be clear to you, but it's not clear to me.

TASKER Auli Sticker Removal?

Today I had to assemble a Pax unit with sliding doors. I’m pretty familiar with assembling them and the duration of assembly is pretty low, but an unexpected turn of events happened when I was peeling off the panel adhesive. The whole mirror shattered and splintered across the room and bed.

Luckily the client saw what happened and wasn’t upset about it, I did take accountability for it, I might have applied too much pressure to the peeling process.

It just sucks because it was the last mirror for the outer door.

TLDR: my fellow experienced taskers, do you take the time to peel the protective layer on the back of the panels or do you install them as is? Personally I think the white part is ugly and I peel it off but what do you suggest?
