Answer: you want r/PMsForSale + FindBullionDeals.com
Make sure you read the sidebar on Pmsforsale, they have rules and a flair system in place to prevent scams. If you follow their advice, you'll likely never have a problem buying or selling. If you have patience and check it regularly, you can find plenty of spot and even below spot deals.
Findbullionprices.com meanwhile covers every major reputable vendor, from JM Bullion to Liberty to Monument to BE. Real time pricing too. You simply won't and can't find a better source.
There really are no better answers, you can safely ignore pretty much all other advice (edit: except Costco when you get the right deal with the credit card cashback).
If you are looking for high-end collectibles, I am the lowest price online - I'll lose money before being undercut by any reputable vendor. Mydnight.com for easy Linktree, show links and reviews.
If you are looking for custom work, you want u/GlassPanther or u/TDMetals - both extremely trustworthy individuals with stunning work and premiums lower than pretty much every other decent silversmith.

So I had a few pieces in a box in my garage. Long story short, a kitten from my cat's recent litter peed on the box said stuff was in. Much of it was ruined, but these two 100g Scottsdale stackers that were in the box got some AMAZING toning, really cool coloration. This is 100% accidental toning. So I guess if you didn't know already, cat pee will make silver turn all kinds of colors š (shit post seemed to be the most relevant tag, piss post wasn't an option lol)

So I inherited a coffee can sized tin of what I'm told is scrap silver that my dad took out of an old x-ray machine. I took it to Elemental but was turned away since I'm not a business. The gold/silver buyer that they referred me to didn't want to deal with it, I believe they said it would be too expensive for them, I'm assuming because of the unknown purity and that it's in lots of pieces, so perhaps testing each one was too much?? I'm not sure. But they didn't have any solid referrals.
I'd be grateful for any useful info or guidance for me as someone who has no understanding about the refinery process, markets, or lingo/terminology used by folks.
I live in Maryland b/t Baltimore and DC if that matters.
Thank you.

Fairly new to collecting silver here, been buying up silver eagles when I can. I called my LCS today and asked if they had any silver eagles in stock which they said they had one. I asked around about what they would be priced at for it and he said it just depends on what the other guy wants to sell it at. I asked if they have a set over spot price on them and he responded āno it just depends on what we paid for them.ā Is this type of pricing normal? I was under the impression that most LCS have a set price over spot regardless of what the current price is? Just wondering if this is normal or should I find a new LCS, Iāve been buying from them for about the last year and the price on the eagles has fluctuated from ~$7-$10 over whatever the current spot price is and itās just seemed strange to me.

So a bit of background first⦠Iāve had a specialty eBay consignment business for 15+ years and end-up getting asked to sell a wide variety of things. I donāt know how much silver Iāve sold over the years, but itās been A LOT. Mostly flatware, lots of coins⦠Iāve had nice Tiffany flatware sets; rescued Georg Jensen serving pieces from a scrap bin last year; had suitcases filled with silver coins; sold a nearly 2ā long piece of figural silver commissioned by the founder of Planterās Peanuts, lolā¦Lots of interesting stuff.
Iāve been working with a client the last month or two who married a woman with some deep historical roots. She can trace her family lineage back to the Revolutionary War, when her namesake was the first governor of the state of Connecticut. There isnāt any family to pass pieces down to anymore, which have largely been in storage for years, so they decided to sell them. Last week, he kept bringing me all sorts of boxes and talking about Paul Revere silver. I didnāt know what he meant, but carefully checked everything in all of the boxes until I finally found it; a small pair of salt spoons in a ājunk boxā. I assume they were kept in a curio or some place with personal mementos and then swept into a box by someone that didnāt realize their importance.
These two little spoons may very well end-up being the most expensive pieces of silver Iāve ever had the privilege of handling. For comparison, a piece of Tiffany silver might sell for 1.5 - 5x the melt value, depending on the design and condition. My best piece of silver to date (by weight) was an antique American coin silver punch ladle, which sold for 14x the melt value. But these little spoons? I conservatively estimate (and hope!) they sell for 250-500x + their melt value š¤Æš¤
The main reason they sell for so much is Paul Revere Jrās significance in American history. While he was know for his April 18, 1775 midnight ride (āThe British are coming!ā), he was also a well-established Boston-area silversmith and merchant; he actually kept a very detailed logbook of some 5000+ pieces of silver he made over his lifetime, which is fun to browse. Provenance (the history of an item) can make the most ordinary items wildly valuable. People simply love to collect items with interesting stories.
Anyhow, thatās the brief history / selling lesson for the day. If youāre interested in seeing the spoons, theyāre up for sale on eBay until November 1st (just search for Paul Revere Jr Salt Spoons and they should show up).
Thanks for reading!

Hey all! I built a website that finds the cheapest silver: https://www.dirtcheapsilver.com
There aren't any ads or affiliate links and nobody pays to be listed. I built this in my free time and most of the code runs on a computer in my house. Completely free to use! In return, I only ask that you share your feedback and suggestions. Thank you!

I dabble in the consignment shops and the occasional thrift. Yesterday for 6$ I found this piece, made in 1859 from St. Petersburg. Russian 84 Silver zolotniks creamer jug. It weighs 168g and shined up pretty damn nice. Even has a gold wash.
That is all
