How big is betting? And is it now part of culture

I met a lady maybe 24 she tells me she bets at least 2,000 RFW a day. Now, I didn't want to sound rude and pry but it's very interesting. Considering her social status (has a monthly income works in a restaurant) .

This made me go down a rabbit hole and now I have learnt the prediction market is huge! Now, I am intrigued do people consider betting gains another source of income? Do you bet or know anyone who does? Why do they or you bet?

What is an actual translation of "programming language" in Kinyarwanda that isn't "ururimi rwo gukora porogaramu"

I have come up with several, and I wanna hear what you guys think. I should warn you guys that I'm relearning Kinyarwanda so some things I might write might not be right.

  1. Ururimi rw'igitugu. The reason I chose "igitugu" is to convey what you're actually doing to the computer; giving in instructions/commands that it must perform/execute exactly as written, with no alteration or guesswork. You're dictating what must happen.
  2. Ururimi rw'ibikorwa. This one also kinda works, because urimo urabwira kompyuta icyo igomba gukora.
  3. Ururimi rw'inshinga. This one's a little weird, but it's based on word association; verb describes action, programming describes what action/activity/function the computer must do, therefore a program could be called a verb since it describes an action or actions a computer must execute.

I'm not opposed to loan words, but I think it's better to loan the words of languages that are geographically close to Kinyarwanda, than to use words from a far away land. But I do think "porogaramu" is kinda lazy because it is possible to create new words in Kinyarwanda or repurpose already existing words, to convey its meaning in a more intuitive way.

AAC devices in Rwanda

Hello everyone! I am a university student in the United States doing my capstone project on introducing Tobii Dynavox into Rwanda.

I have been doing a lot of research into Rwanda economically & I am very impressed with new initiatives the government has announced these last few years regarding funding towards special education & tech hubs.

I’ve reached out to the government & embassy’s but wanted to get a response from the general public as-well.

I have 5 questions that I would like to ask, I’m open to hearing anything about Rwanda, even if it isn’t related to the questions. The more the better! Thank you for your time.

-Does health insurance, such as Mutuelle de Santé or private insurance, help cover speech therapy, communication devices, or other disability support? Has anyone experienced this process?

-What progress have you personally seen in classroom support for students with disabilities, especially those who have difficulty speaking?

-What progress have you seen in employment opportunities and workplace accommodations for people with disabilities?

-Has anyone purchased equipment from Bright Trade & Industry, worked with Edit Microsystems, or accessed Tobii Dynavox products in Rwanda? What was your experience?

-What are the biggest barriers to getting assistive technology in Rwanda—cost, availability, awareness, language support, or something else?

Prescription for sertline , advice wanted.

Moved here almost a year now, been on Sertline and suddenly my pharmacy has cut me off, says they tightned the rules and i have to have a local prescription.

Any ideas which doctor to go to ? is it likely they will refuse to write me a prescription, given the stigma associated with mental health here.

Any Rwandans in Uganda

Hello everyone

I wanted to ask if there are any Rwandans currently living in Uganda, particularly in kampala. I'd love to connect with fellow Rwandans living here.

If you're one of them, or you know someone who is, feel free to comment or send me a message.

Also, if you know of any Rwandan communities, associations, WhatsApp groups, or other social groups in Uganda, I'd really appreciate your recommendations.

Thank you

Looking for Nicorette Lozenges in Kigali / Rwanda (Not the gum)

Hey everyone,

I’m currently trying to find Nicorette lozenges (preferably 4mg) anywhere in Kigali or across Rwanda.

I know some pharmacies carry the Nicorette gum or patches, but I specifically need the lozenges/mints.

Does anyone know of a pharmacy in Kigali (e.g., Kipharma, Pharmacie Conseil, Rite Health, etc.) that regularly keeps them in stock? Or is there a reliable delivery service/importer you’ve used to get them?

Appreciate any leads! Thanks in advance.

My family is selling 10,000 m² in Jabana, Kigali. 24 government-approved plots, asking 750M RWF

Hey everyone,

I’m helping my parents sell a piece of land our family owns in Jabana, Gasabo, Kigali.

It’s approximately 10,000 m², and the government has already approved the subdivision into 24 plots, including internal roads. We have the approved plan and supporting documents available.

A few details:
Location: Jabana, Gasabo, Kigali
Total land: Approximately 10,000 m²
Subdivision: 24 government-approved plots
Roads: Internal roads included in the approved subdivision
Access: Approximately 5 minutes from a secondary road and 15 minutes from the main road
Documentation: Approved subdivision plan available
Price: 750M RWF, negotiable

The individual plots don’t have separate titles yet. We’re happy to explain the current registration status and share the relevant documents with serious buyers.

We’re primarily looking for someone interested in purchasing the entire property, ideally a developer or investor, rather than selling the plots individually.

I’m representing my family directly, so you would be dealing with the owners rather than going through multiple intermediaries.

If you’re interested, or know someone actively looking for land of this size in Kigali, feel free to DM me. I can share the exact location, subdivision plan, and arrange a site visit.

If you’re a broker with an actual buyer looking for something in this range, I’m happy to hear from you too.

Thanks!
