FAQs

We continue to update our FAQ (Frequently-asked questions) page. It does link to some external sites, but mostly the page takes you to exemplar posts from this community itself.

We do encourage you to browse topics and possibly conduct a self-service search on the FAQ page. But obviously, this community exists for you to discuss blading topics. Lots of members are happy to answer similar questions time after time, posed by new skaters. You'll be surprised at how generous this community is. With that said, you'll probably get better answers to specific questions, if you already have a basic understanding of terms. That's how the FAQ can help you.

Guides

  • How to Inline Skate - If you are new to inline skating, please don't just buy a pair of skates and rush out to skate on the street. You could easily hurt yourself without proper stater techniques and protection equipment. It is best to learn to skate with a skater friend. But if you must learn online, use this guide to learn key beginner steps, and find links to well-known YouTube channels to help you get started.
  • Everything you ever wanted to know about inline skates - this comprehensive Wikipedia article gives you an overview of all topics related to inline skates including history, types, boots, frames, wheels, bearings, and setups. Every paragraph cites modern resources you can use to dig deeper. Use these resources to build up your inline skate knowledge and vocabulary, so that you know what you want, and how to ask this community to help you get what you need.
  • Buyer's Guide - outdated - from 2015 - will be updated for 2026 soon

Moderation Policy and Community Rules

Moderators use human judgment when moderating posts and comments. The vision for how this community operates is broadly captured by the few simple rules shown in the community widget. Each moderation decision requires human judgment to apply a broad rule to the particular situation at hand. Moderators use their best judgment when making difficult decisions. Consult the Policy and Rules page for details.

Sibling Communities

This r/rollerblading community brings together enthusiasts from across the many disciplines of inline skating. Not every member here is exclusively focused on a single discipline, and many of us enjoy more than one. At the same time, several sibling communities focus on specific disciplines that are closely connected to ours.

We believe that inline skating is stronger when we band together. That's why r/rollerblading welcomes all inline disciplines. At the same time, we encourage bladers to subscribe to and actively participate in the sibling communities dedicated to specific disciplines. Supporting these communities helps each discipline grow while strengthening inline skating as a whole. Head over to the Sibling Communities page.
