ATS System tossing out my resume - STEM field

• Upvotes

Have applied to countless of jobs for local cities, private firms and even state government. However, even though i meet alot of the requirements my resumes and cover letters get. I'm so frustrated of not getting any interviews.

What advice do you give for creating a TOP selling resume/cover letter? For context I am in the environmental science industry. Thank you!

I feel like I have to many jobs to put on my resume?

(Sorry for another post but I am really trying to iron out my resume!) so I have had like 6 jobs that I’ve worked since I started 5 years ago. (I Blame my dumb teenage self that would quit jobs a lot). I feel the standard “job title and then 3 bullet points of skills from that job under it” doesn’t fit on the one page limit. I feel like my last job and the ones I’ve done while being self employed are the most important to highlight so I don’t know if I should just not put bullet points on the older ones and still list them? I’ve also seen people list them all and then at the bottom have a general “skills and achèvement list”

What do you guys think?

Software Engineer with 4 Years Exp, 0 interviews in 6 months

~4 YOE full-stack software engineer looking for mid-level full-stack/product engineering roles. I’ve mainly worked with React, TypeScript, Python, and PostgreSQL across frontend, backend, APIs, and data-heavy applications.

I’ve been job searching for ~7 months and my interview rate has been abysmal, I've been continually adjusting my resume to no success other than recruiters reaching out to me on LinkedIn so I would really appreciate an outside opinion and more sets of eyes.

Specific Q's:

- Does my experience read as solid mid-level SWE experience?

- Are the bullets too detailed/technical, or do they communicate impact well?

- Is there anything here that jumps out at you that might explain a low response rate from recruiters?

- Do you have anything encouraging to say about this? This has been pretty demoralizing haha.

Please be constructive, but looking for honest feedback. Thanks in advance for taking a look!

When to correct resume?

So I’m currently in an interview process where I just completed round 3 and am waiting to hear back if I’m going to round 4 (which I also believe is the final round) I noticed an error on my resume that I used to apply for the job. I put my time at college one year off. So it shows I started a year earlier than I actually did. When should I message the recruiter who I’ve been in communication with about this? Should I wait until an offer when background checks happen or just do it now?

Getting 0.5% callback on resumes for interviews

Hello as the title states I have been applying to hundreds of jobs, and have gotten very few interview offers, I have gotten final stage and I tend to do decently well with job interviews, though I have only had like 4 or 5 different companies. I am wondering if anyone has advise for my resume, I have been modifying it a lot for years, and have 4 variants(one for data analyst, one machine learning, one for QA and one for retail).

This is the data analyst resume, my biggest concern is probably the fact I have a gap of relevant experience, as recently I have only had jobs like as an assistant invigilator at U of T, and cashier. I also am concerned cause VFC and Riipen are project based so I was doing them ongoing together, but I think them running at the same time during university makes them look strange maybe?

Free resume review thread on Levels.fyi

Sharing the original free resume review thread on Levels.fyi:

UPDATE in the original post: the author says they partnered with ex-FAANG recruiters to start PineappleResume. I couldn't open that site, so I can't confirm its current availability or pricing.

The author says they've reviewed over 10,000 resumes while working at startups and large companies, and offered free reviews with actionable feedback in the thread. If you request feedback there, redact private information from your resume. If you're not targeting a generic software engineering role, include that info as well.

For the next step after revising your resume, autofill for job applications can cut down repeated form-filling.

What are some ways you guys tailor resumes?

Sharing a job seeker's question:

Hey guys, maybe I'm just being dumb but I never managed to figure out exactly how I should tailor my resume for the recruiter to see it. My understanding is that recruiters can search inside an ATS for keywords and other stuff in your resume, but only keyword stuffing isn't the way to go.

Should you create role-specific resumes and tweak them a little, like placing relevant points higher up? For example, let's say you are a full stack engineer: you would drop a frontend resume instead of a full stack one for a frontend developer role and do the same for a backend role. Is this tweak enough or are there other ways of optimization I'm forgetting about? Maybe I should change only the first three points of my most recent job experience along with changing my summary and writing a good cover letter, or are there even better ways to tailor resumes? Or should you use hyrd.dev or similar AIs? Maybe there is a tool that I didn't hear about. This tool has only been hit or miss for me.

Separate from tailoring the resume itself, application autofill can handle repeated application fields so you have less to re-enter for each role.

Resume Question 👋😅📝

Sharing a job seeker's question:

Resume question for all of you, also Hi!

For those of us with squiggly career paths and a ton of transferable skills, do you suggest having different versions of our resumes?

I know it’s ideal to write a tailored resume for a particular job description, but when you apply through LinkedIn or Indeed, where you store a standard resume, it’s difficult to do so. How does a job seeker navigate that? If you are applying to generally the same types of roles, a solid base that is tweakable is fine. But if applying to different roles, I don’t suggest one generalized resume. I wonder how hard and time-consuming it is to apply to different roles and tailor resumes accordingly 🙈 shouldn’t be too hard if you are applying to similar roles, but it takes more time for sure.

I already struggle with a general resume as far as nuance, relevance etc. (especially as a disabled neurodivergent person) and often just get stuck in tasking freeze mode. I can often see things cross-applying, but should I spend a paragraph on it? who knows not me

For the repetitive application fields, application autofill can help reduce typing. Disclosure: I work on LandOffer.

[9 YoE, Front-End Developer, Front-End / React Developer, Ukraine (remote)]

Hi, I got laid off this month and I'm looking for a remote frontend job (EU/US or Ukrainian companies).

9 years in frontend. Last 4 years in a web studio: React + TypeScript ERP, Vue 3 CRM, some Laravel projects. I also added unit tests (Vitest) and Playwright E2E tests there.

My questions:

  1. Does it look like senior or more like middle+?
  2. Is it ok to list several projects under one company?
  3. Laravel in resume - good or better remove for frontend jobs?
  4. What looks weak or fake?

Thanks!

By the grace of God, somebody please critique my CV. Trying to find job 1 year after graduating. Have had interviews with NBA, IMG, and BBC.

I am trying to work in Marketing and I have applied for 500+ jobs since September 2025, I have interviewed for companies such as: The National Basketball Association, IMG, and BBC, unfortunately I have not been able to secure a role after I have graduated.

I am doing everything right I feel, update my LinkedIn constantly (where I have been able to make connections with people in careers I aspire to be in), I update my personal portfolio website regularly (which I am very proud of), and a personal project (NBA x SKIMS which can be found on my website) that is all useful to my future role. What else can I do to progress my job search.

I have a good feeling that everything is going to work out. For some reason as a graduate, I am also able to progress quite easily through undergraduate sandwich year placements for organisations such as Warner Bros, New Balance, and Nestle. Why is that.

Tweaks to this Resume please!

Is the length of this resume ok? I condensed it to this size, and I thought that changing the margins might help but it just looks weird.

Also the specific jobs I am applying for are library assistant jobs, that don't require a Masters degree. Only require a high school diploma, and I have an associated and am 1 semester away from finishing my Bachelors.

Does anybody have any advice to polish it, or ways I can improve it?

2 resume versions. Planning to hire a professional resume writer this week. Feedback before I pay $600??

Please share your thoughts. Also, the content is only about 75% finished. I know I need a professional to help me because I've been iterating for about 10 months and still getting no where. My last role was an internship, given to me through my grad program. Put me at the center of the organization and I gained a lot of awareness and undestanding. It was a buffet type experience as I like to call it, a little but of everything. It's been hard for me to properly illustrate my experience. As of now, planning to hire Resume Spice services to help with that. I still value my Reddit community. Thank you.

Resume Review help

I’m an arts administrator exploring jobs in other industries where my skills apply. I’ve been using AI to help with my resume, but I’ve also been told that’s a bad idea. I edit my resumes myself after AI generates it, but I want to make sure it reads human enough to another person.

Would anyone be so kind to look at a couple of versions and give me honest feedback? I’m especially curious about:

  1. Whether it sounds like a real person wrote it
  2. Whether it leaves a strong enough impression on recruiters
  3. How well my arts experience translates outside the industry

(For privacy sake, I would appreciate to dm whoever responds instead of posting it here)

Should you have that little short paragraph at the top of your CV

I see conflicting views about this. Some say to add that little paragraph about you and how your skills are tailored to the job but others say not to. I’m a second year student applying for internships and placement years.

NovoResume uses a lot of single word 'skills' - I've been told to expand on these skills with proof, what is the right approach?

I've gone through a lot of materials regarding resumes over the last 8 months that I've been job hunting and as the wannabe scientist that I am, I've been trying to 'test' different approaches, but none of them seem to work?!

I've gone through Jason's lean resume guide on this sub and he doesn't use a 'skills' section, but more or less all the templates on NovoResume do?

I read in a resume guide I found on linkedIn that just writing 'Leadership' under 'skills' doesn't really say a lot... Something like "led a team of 13 specialists" says more and something like "led a team of 13 specialists ranging from Engineers, Project Managers to Administratives with high engagement and always meeting deadlines" is even better.

but which approach is the best/right one?

What's the worst resume advice you followed that you later realized was complete BS?

"Keep it to one page."
"Add more details."
"Use keywords to beat the ATS."
"Don't make it sound like it was written by AI."

And somehow, everyone claims to know exactly what recruiters want.

But I'm curious about the advice that actually backfired.

What's a piece of resume advice you genuinely believed, followed, and later realized was complete BS?

Maybe it cost you interviews. Maybe you wasted hours fixing something that didn't matter. Or maybe you only realized how bad the advice was after you started hiring people yourself.

I'm especially curious about the stuff that's still being repeated everywhere, even though it doesn't actually help.

And if you're a recruiter or hiring manager, feel free to call out the advice you wish candidates would stop following.

Let's hear the resume myths that need to die.
