Please pray for Pixel

Please send your prayers and/or good thoughts Pixel’s way. She had a surgery yesterday and her recovery is rough. She’s got a cough from a raw throat from being intubated, she’s not wanting to eat so we couldn’t give her pain meds, and she’s not drinking water either. She just slowly moves from spot to spot trying to get comfortable. She was shaking a bit this morning after sleeping in the same spot all night :( I called the vet this morning and he said everything sounds normal. Unfortunately she is just a sensitive girl. He did give us some different pain meds that we went and picked up. He had us dissolve that in some water and bone broth and syringe it into her cheek. She did swallow it and luckily didn’t spit that out. So we are hopeful that once she’s not hurting, she’ll be more interested in food and water. Hoping she will eat and drink even the littlest bit of something so she doesn’t have to be admitted over the weekend.

Adopting my first Pekingese this weekend after the death of my beloved corgi. Please give me name ideas! It’s currently chewy but I do not like that lol
I love anime, so I was thinking Denji or Sokka.

He is five years old, and over the last two years or so, we have been struggling to handle his seizures. At first, it was manageable and only happened every three to four months, but they started to increase in frequency. Following the vet's advice that if it happens more than once in a six to eight-week period we would need to get him on medication, we decided to start him on some about four months ago. Things have been better since we started giving him Keppra three times daily, which is not great, but it stopped the seizures completely. Fast forward to this month, and it appears that he has developed a resistance to Keppra and has started having vestibular seizures again. We are heartbroken for our dog because it is traumatic for him and us when he seizes. I blame Simparica Trio for his condition, and I was not told by the vet before starting him that it could cause seizures (it says on the box that it could cause them); I just trusted my vet. We are frustrated, angry, and saddened by his condition because he is such an amazing little dog, and seeing him suffer like this has been truly horrible. We don't want to lose him so young but we're worried that things are just going to continue to get worse even trying different medications and we'll watch him die in our arms. All that being said, does anyone else's Pekingese have trouble with seizures, and what medications made the biggest difference for your dog?

My first childhood dog, Radar, was the best dog ever, loved by both humans and dogs alike. Here he is showing his younger brothers who’s in charge! He was full of charisma and courage, but never aggressive. Almost 20 years after his passing, everyone still remembers him dearly. I'm not sure if he was Pekingese or Tibetan spaniel, or both, but he was perfect.

Issues once we got him a brother ?

Hi everyone this is mushu! Once I got his mini dachshund brother Princeton a year ago, mushu has been aggressive not only with his brother getting into fights with him once/ twice a month but also getting into fights with dogs at the dog park! He use to be super eager to say hi to friends and now has a temper and is super crazy once treats are out. Has anyone had these issues with Pekingese ? He is 4 years old and is my fiancés dog ( now mine too ). I stopped taking him to the dog park and plan to take him to dog school to socialize him and train him soon (once I pass my school licensing exam ) any tips are appreciated !

Mimi with her last summer trim, she’s 11! Little Cheswick is half chihuahua, half poodle and he’s about to turn 2. How long have your pekes take to accept a new member of the pack? For Mimi I think now I feel confident she has accepted Cheswick, certainly took a long time.

She was outside chasing butterflies all day and got overheated. It was such hard work, her Mom had to put her in her cage so she could rest on her cooling mat....and NOT run back outside!

Pekingese owner for years. Happy to answer questions about grooming and care.

Hi everyone! I've lived with Pekingese for years, and I'm always learning something new about this breed.

Their coats are beautiful but they take real work. Here are a few things that have helped me:

  • Brush a little every day. Five minutes beats a long session once a week, especially behind the ears and under the legs, where mats start.
  • Never brush a dry coat. A light mist of water or detangler prevents breakage.
  • Clean the face folds gently. Use a soft damp cloth, then dry them well so moisture doesn't cause irritation.
  • Watch the heat. Flat-faced breeds overheat fast, so I keep walks short in warm weather.

What has worked for you? And if you're a new Peke owner with questions about grooming or general care, ask away. I'm happy to help however I can.

His favorite activity seems to be sleeping. I suspect he's about 10 or more years old. Four months ago, my sister took in this little guy, did the entire "posting to the public" thing; and then about three weeks ago asked me to take him as he was waking her up every morning around 3-4 am. I suspect she wasn't really letting him have a good final walk at night.

Anyways, I am a dog-foster parent. I've had as many as six foster dogs at once (along with my own three). I was going to send him to one of the rescues I work with, but his distress cries during the drive to my place just broke my heart. So, he's home for good now.

He sleeps right by my shoulder, generally. He likes to lay in the yard and enjoy the sun; and he doesn't seem to like to walk through the dew laden grasses at night.

He IS the pickiest eater, EVER! Ugh. At least he doesn't need to eat too much...

Oh, and my sister did take him for a thorough vet check , but I'm not 100% convinced they did their best work. They tried some injections for his rear-end arthritis, but it didn't seem to help. However, I've been doin some very gentle modalities on him (generally while I'm carrying him back in from his outsides visits). And his rear end seems much improved.

What else can I say? His hair is getting fluffy after being shaved because of how matted his hair was when he was found.

He seems either really dim or stubborn or maybe not attentive to his surroundings. He'll go outside and then when he's ready to come in, he'll start crying the most heart-breaking cries! When the two foster puppies get in his face, he does this raspy little cry-yap-bark...

Anyway, I love this little fluff-mudgin.

Our little girl was released from the Hospital late Thursday. She’s doing much better. I really appreciate all of the prayers, support, healing vibes, kind words, and love sent to me and her dad. It was a really difficult time for all of us. She’s back home and Gucci missed her so much, I’m glad she’s getting back to her old ways of growling at her brother when he gets on her nerves!
