Rings can help [37YO]
Picked up skating again, with my son, after not skating since like 14. I could always land the occassional pop shove-it but its like 1 in 5 and slow. I decided to try this week to really get it down.
But ive got pretty painful lateral shift and functional scoliosis from some herniated disks. I started 10 sessions with a chiropractor last week (4th is tomorrow) and its helping I think.
That said, i didnt feel like slamming a bunch so i hooked up some gym rings i had and put em pretty low just enough to catch myself as i went down. I held them up with slack for the actual trick.
Using them i could land kickflips pretty regular (which i cant do) just because i could stay in the air so long. So its clearly cheating. Not great to depend on. BUT... i fixed the mechanics of my pop and scoop to figure out how not to keep landing on the nose. And i didnt have to fall once!
I then went out for a sesh with my boy and proceeded to actually land shove-it after shove-it with good footing.
So... dont bash the rings. Ima use it for kickflips next.

Nose manny nollie shuv [40YO]
Spent the summer recovering from a rowdy busted foot in late 2025. The trick that busted my foot? Nose manual nollie shuv. Tonight was redemption. Sorry for the crap angle - I was at the park by myself and I only had a little stand.

Buying a board and where to start? [40YO]
Hey, I've always loved watching skating, I've just never done it. I've hit 40 and thought fuck it.. im a serial hobbyist and I've always wanted to be able to.
I just don't 100% know where to start with the aim to be able to move about and maybe even make my way up to a ground trick or two.
I'm in reasonable shape and active. i know it is going to ache. Helmet, Knee, Wrist and Elbow pads always for me.
I suppose my first question is a board... What do i get? Now i know the obvious answer is to go to a skate shop and they will hook me up... but to be honest i have no idea whether i will stick with it so i would rather start on something cheap, but decent enough to give it a go properly so looking at 2nd hand or something from the likes of facebook marketplace.
What should i be looking out for? (or rather avoiding i suppose). im in the UK (Bristol) for reference.
thanks guys!

It’s been a rough couple of weeks. Managed to squeeze a couple of roll arounds between working too much. Rainy season is hitting the UK. [34YO]

A rough one! [38yo]
I think I spent more time picking myself up off the flat bottom than I did skating… I am happy I got another regular invert though

Looking to get back into skating but I have two unique problems... [39YO]
So I'm 39... not in phenomenal shape, but I used to skate (not well, but i had fun!) when I was a teenager. I still love the sport, and I'm looking to maybe use it as a motivation to lose some weight and get back in shape. I see guys like Bam Margera still out there skating, and I'm like "shit, if he can do it why can't I?"
Anyway, my two problems:
#1: I have huge feet. I wear a 14 6E and, for the life of me, I cannot find any skate shoes in my size. They don't exist, near as I can tell. Are there any viable substitutes? If I can't get shoes that work for skating, I can't really hope to skate, and this is all a pipe dream, right? I'm sending out an SOS!
#2: I'm currently over 3 bills. A "healthy" weight for me (~20% body fat) is ~240 pounds. I am a heavy man. I always will be. Are there boards made for heavier riders? I'd need one.
I don't have aspirations to be doing anything crazy on a board. Just some really casual street and flat ground stuff. Not looking to do bowls, pipes, or jump off a flight of stairs.
Basically, I'm just here to see if my midlife crisis is a possibility or a pipe dream.

Learning the pump track with encouragement from my 2 favourite fans [44YO]
Just started to learn skateboard about a month or 2 ago, and I’m loving it! Take my kids to the skatepark and pump track a few times a week. The pump track is an absolute blast! Feels like surfing! REALLY tough to get a hang of it. Started to learn to pump, then backside turns, then frontside turns, then finally making it all the way round in 1 shot! Mostly just love spending this time with my kids and having them see daddy try something new.

first time back on the board, were my trucks always this loose?[32YO]
Becoming a dad 6 months ago made me realise I want my kid to see me be passionate about stuff, not just working. So I took out my old deck. Tips on drills or where to start improving are welcome, never made it past an ollie haha.

Im looking for a deck[42YO]
Im looking for this deck
flat or mellow concave, 33" over, oldschool design
I’d hate to use Retro board for rough, everyday cruising—is there anywhere I could buy a deck that fits my requirements?

Need friends to skate with MN [30YO]
I used to skate a bunch as a kid and put it on hold for a military career. I got out and took my kid to the park one time and instantly got hooked back in. I spent this last summer, trying to get my legs back underneath me somewhat successfully with a few injuries. When I was a kid a I’d cruise around Minneapolis and St Paul a lot, bombing Hills ,finding spots and getting kicked out out of spots, I miss it. if you’re active in the area or want to be, I’m in need of some friends to skate with. Day or night let’s go skate.

Finally learned 50-50s on ledges [30YO]
I wanted to share some personal reflections about skating and progression, so thanks in advance for taking the time to read this.
Story time.
I started skating when I was 19, mainly because I wanted to spend more time outside the house and make new friends. All my friends had been skating consistently for a few years and were already pretty decent, so I was a complete beginner.
I skated for about five years and got kinda good, but I never really learned proper ollies or many street tricks. I could do shove-its, 180s, and a few variations, but most of those years, I focused on learning old-school tricks like bonelesses, no-complys, and miniramp tricks.
Most of my friends didn't skate that way, so I felt like it was a way to level the playing field and spend more time skating with them without feeling left out. I became the guy who could boneless any ramp, gap, or stair set. I was fearless, sometimes even reckless.
Then COVID hit, I got a good job with a nice salary, and skateboarding slowly faded into the background.
Last year, I decided to get back into skating. Most of my friends were older by then and weren't really on the same page as me anymore, so I had to start skating alone.
But this time, I decided to focus on the basics and relearn all the tricks I'd never actually learned properly, starting with ollies and getting more into street skating.
This year, I turned 30, and I felt like a beginner all over again. Learning ollies, shove-its, and flatground tricks. During the first few months of the year, I felt like such an idiot for never having properly learned these things in the first place.
But now I feel confident. I've got a decent ollie, and I've learned to do some gnarly backside boardslides on rails.
Yesterday, I finally unlocked 50-50s, and it hit me that there's still so much room for me to progress. I'm so happy. I'm older than I was when I first started, but I'm more confident, and I don't care about skating alone anymore.
I guess this is just a reminder to find your own flow and rhythm. Don't put too much pressure on yourself. Enjoy the ride, and let progression be a way to challenge yourself rather than something you have to chase.
The benefits aren't just reflected in your skills, but also in who you become along the way.

Ledge talk pt deux [43YO]
I know some of you old timers still got pop. Here’s 3 takes on the modified standard ledge that still incorporates the standard ledge use. I know we don’t Ollie like we used to, but i think every skate park needs to have at least one!
