Made fun of for participating in class and asking questions

This class we have this semester is a severely challenging one. Extremely content heavy and I haven’t been doing super great on the exams. So I’ve been showing up and asking a ton of questions.

A group of girls that sit behind me just kind of sigh loudly and giggle whenever I ask questions. It’s been really getting on my nerves. I don’t know their names. But apparently they’ve been calling me weird and spreading rumors about me cheating on assignments. Again - I don’t know who these people are. I doubt I’ve even spoken directly to them?

Anyone else deal with this? Besides ignoring them is there a way to make them shut up? They’re ramping it up since I just haven’t acknowledged them the past few class days

Help. Please convince me to stay in Nursing School or to QUIT

I missed clinical last week because I got sick, been sick ALLLLLL week. Still not feeling awesome today. Took a COVID test and yep, I'm positive. If I miss Monday's clinical, I am kicked out of the program. I have spent so much $$$ and time and effort to get to this point (Im in semester 2 of 4). About a month ago, I realized I hated clinical, the follow up work (clinical packet and DocuCare), I don't like the clinical preceptor, there's one lady in my cohort who is a major B, I don't like any of it. I don't want to work in a hospital. Fudge! I only like the pathophysiology and the medical management aspect in theory class. That's all I like about this. I did ask the universe to send me a sign if I should bail or not and then the universe sends me COVID-19 in 2026. What are the odds?

TL:DR: Do I force quit the nursing program by missing my 2nd Clinical or do I not tell anyone and just wear a mask and hope I don't get anyone sick?

Stay away from Herzing University online program

• Upvotes

Wasn’t going to share this but honestly, if I could spare even one person the awful experience , it’s worth sharing. Please please please, stay away from Herzing University online masters RN program or any of their online programs. It was the worst experience. I’ve attended multiple universities before, I have a premed biology degree, which was super hard and I ended with 3.8/4 gpa. I was also in a doctorate program in chiropractic medicine for a year, which was brutal (8 hours of class and studying for 5+ hours per day every day including cadaver dissection, intense biochemistry etc) so I know what hard classes are like. But the program at Herzing isn’t just hard. It’s honestly such a scam and I truly have zero clue how anyone is doing it. The entire (I’m not even exaggerating ENTIRE curriculum is all in written format. You have to read hundreds of pages of material straight text book format. No PowerPoint presentations, no lectures, no guidelines for what’s going to be on the exams. Instead, each exam contains information from hundreds of pages of just paragraph form writing that you have to read. It was the worst experience ever and I dropped out after 3 weeks. You essentially end up homeschooling yourself by reading all of that material on your own. I was so shocked and honestly felt like they purposely set you up to fail.

I dropped after 3 weeks and currently attend Ambria (just got bought out by Judson University) and so far, it’s been an amazing experience !

Sound Off 😤 Struggling to Finish BSN

Hi all! So, just like the title states, I am struggling to finish my BSN. Not because it's difficult, but because I literally have no interest in the fluffy theories, which seem to be the core of the degree.

IMO, nursing education should focus more on science. For pre-reqs I took A&P, chemistry, pathophysiology, pharmacology, microbiology, among others. Those were interesting and informative. I felt I was actually learning something worthwhile.

I don't understand why there is so much emphasis on theory. The only conclusion I can come to is that nursing is traditionally a woman-dominated career. And in a patriarchal society, women are seen as less intelligent and capable.

It's very frustrating. I've lost all motivation to continue to pursue a BSN. Some might disagree, but I think my ADN program taught me the skills and critical thought needed for nursing.

It's unfortunate nursing education is stuck in the dark ages. It's time to demand more from our education.

Does anyone else feel the same?

I don't mind a few theory classes but for the whole degree to be based on these classes, it seems silly and infantilizing.

Be kind! I'm frustrated and open to hear other perspectives.

I’m failing chemistry. Is it over?

• Upvotes

To start, I just started college this year and I am currently taking my pre-reqs. I am doing really well in my other classes which i mainly have B’s in, but chemistry i am failing horribly. I can’t seem to grasp onto the material for some reason. I have met with 2 different tutors and my professor and still can’t get the material down. I am taking inorganic chemistry 121 and it is not going well. I’m doing good on my homework/labs but my exams is what is bringing my grade down dramatically. I typically get 18/20 in homework and 22/25 on labs, but my past 2 exams have been a disaster. I’m honestly too embarrassed to share the scores. I just took my second exam tonight, and bombed it. I am failing the class and spiraling over what if nursing is not for me because of this? What if i fail chemistry? My dream is to be an ER nurse and there really is no other career i could think of wanting to pursue in. I keep thinking if i can’t get through basic chemistry, what will the rest of schooling look like? I guess what im looking for is some experienced nursing students feedback! Thank you.

Pre-Nursing 🩺 How are/did you schedule your prerequisites?

Hi!

I’m wondering how people are scheduling their prerequisites or how their schedules looked like when they were taking prerequisites. I’m trying to get a gist of how I should plan mine, without accidentally creating a stressful and overwhelming schedule. I know people often warn against something like taking more than 1 science class per semester?

Scared to start Nursing School

So I recently just got accepted into my nursing BSN program. I start this Spring, but I found that I’m not even excited I’m just scared. Thinking of starting the program makes me really nervous and all the excitement I had before is gone. I don’t want to sound ungrateful because I am very glad that I got accepted in. I’m just scared of failing or struggling to be able to do the skills. Is this normal? Again, don’t want to sound ungrateful I just wish I could be excited, before I was really looking forward to starting it and now I’m really dreading it.

Tips for pediatric Hesi

Hi everyone! I have an upcoming peds exit Hesi exam and it’s worth 20% of my grade. I’m extremely nervous because if I don’t get a high score I won’t pass the class and my graduation gets delayed by months. I was using naxlex for my previous semesters but now that’s it’s shut down I don’t know what resources to use for practice questions. If anyone has tips or other recommendations please let me know 🙏🥲

Need peaceful way to deal with toxic parents..

I don't understand what to do in life, should I run away from home or take a small job for 8k-10k because staying at home is no longer possible and I'm not getting a job...

I don't even have the courage to commit suicide and I can't see a way forward, who made parents like gods in society... why can't a person just be a person...

If someone really wants to help, please tell me a peaceful way?🙏🙏

Pre-Nursing 🩺 College student thinking of LPN

I am in my junior year of college doing a bio degree. I have an overall 3.45 gpa. TBH I am having a very hard time this semester and might even have to drop a class. I am interested in nursing but I think pursuing an LPN first might be good for me. I am wondering if I need to take the TEAS or HESI. I am thinking of applying to Jacksonville University’s 12 month LPN program. I am just wondering about the course rigor. I know it is a lot of credit hours and classes but I want to get an idea of the difficulty of the classes. Frankly I am leaning towards LPN because I think I’d be more likely to pass it over an ABSN. Any advice or guidance helps, thanks!

I just got accepted into a LVN Program

I’m 26(F) I recently got accepted into an LVN program here in the San Fernando Valley, California. I don’t have experience in the medical field, other than as a Pharmacist Technician for a few months. I was wondering if there are any current/previous nursing students who have any advice/pointers to give? I would appreciate the help :))

Nursing Students: How Would You Handle Bullying and Faculty Inaction

I’m seven weeks into my 1st semester of nursing school and dealing with ongoing bullying, possible racial bias, and intimidation from a classmate.
What happened:
During an early group project, one student repeatedly dismissed others, changed our work without permission, and allegedly mocked an international student of color.
Her behavior appeared increasingly directed toward students of color in the group, so I reported my concerns to faculty.
Instead of facilitating the situation, instructors told us to resolve it ourselves. The student then screamed at the group and stormed out while faculty witnessed the incident.
Since then, I’ve experienced what I perceive as continued intimidation, rumors, and possible retaliation.
Yesterday, before an exam, she stood over me and demanded that I move from an unassigned seat because it was “hers.” I moved to avoid a confrontation, but afterward realized I felt unsafe.
I’ve documented my concerns and tried to remain professional, but faculty have not meaningfully addressed the situation. Because the program is accelerated, failing could delay my progression for a year.
For those who have experienced something similar:
How did you document incidents effectively? What details, records, witness statements, or timelines were most useful?
Who did you contact after faculty failed to intervene? Did you escalate to the program director, department chair, student affairs, ombudsperson, Title VI/civil rights office, or another administrator?
What did you request in writing? For example, a formal meeting, written response, neutral group assignments, seating changes, or a safety plan?
How did you protect your academic standing and avoid retaliation or being unfairly blamed for the conflict?
If you felt physically unsafe, how did you report it, and when did you involve campus security or another immediate support?
I’m looking for practical advice on documenting concerns, escalating them through the appropriate channels, and protecting my academic progress while continuing to attend class with someone who makes me feel unsafe.

Studying Tips 📚 TIPS on Studying after a full day of lecture/lab

Hey all! I’m wondering if any of you have experience and success with any hacks or routines that help you study and do some work after full days of lecture, labs, or clinicals?

I’m usually so burnt out by the end of it all it’s hard to do any substantial studying or reading. Maybe a shift in routine might help open to suggestions.

I am genuinely perplexed by some people

I feel like I might have a bunch of downvotes and people pitching fits in the comments, but Im an opinionated person who isn't afraid to vocalize what I think. That being said...

I feel like based purely on their behaviors, half the students dont truly want to be here. They act like the coursework is punishment, as soon as they can leave they are OUT the door. Always looking for ways to avoid doing assignments. They seem to truly dislike all the curriculum and show little to no enthusiasm for any of it. I TA for 100 level bio classes that are geared toward healthcare majors and seeing it from that perspective is even more of a trip.

Everytime they are failing/doing poorly... "its the professors fault because A, B, C."

And its these same people who are "so excited to be a future nurse" and "im gonna be a CRNA one day" but barely passed chem, A&P1&2, bio, etc etc...

Like what am i missing?

Please fill me in?

If there is genuinely a piece of the puzzle im missing im open to changing my perspective, given some convincing insight.
