I made a free, open-source tracker that reads MTGO's game logs. First public release, looking for feedback
I've been working on this for a while, mostly because I wanted real numbers to prepare for Bo3 events and couldn't find anything that did it for MTGO. It's called Sensei Top, it's free and open source, and as of this week it's public.
It reads the Match_GameLog files MTGO already writes and builds a local dashboard from them. For each match you get the result of every game, who was on the play, mulligans on both sides and the cards your opponent showed, and it uses those cards to name the opponent's archetype. From there it puts together your record with each deck against each archetype, split by game 1 vs post-board and on the play vs on the draw, with the sample size next to every number (so a 3-1 doesn't look like a trend). There's also a page with the metagame from recent challenges, leagues and paper events, with your own record next to each deck.
Archetype naming is in good shape for Modern, Pauper and Standard. Other formats work, but expect more "unknown" opponents.
A few things you should know:
- MTGO's log doesn't say which deck you were playing or what format the match was, so you have to tell it. It groups your matches by the saved deck that matches the cards you played, so it's usually one click for a whole batch.
- Games show up after they end, nothing live on MTGO.
- When MTGO updates it sometimes moves the log folder, and you have to point the app at it again.
- The Windows installer isn't signed yet, so SmartScreen will complain the first time (More info → Run anyway). The builds come straight from GitHub Actions and the release notes have the VirusTotal links.
- There's an AppImage for Linux and Steam Deck. MTGO under Wine/Proton works, you just point it at the log folder inside the prefix.
- No Mac version.
It doesn't need an account, doesn't upload anything, and doesn't read MTGO's memory or change anything MTGO owns. It only reads the logs.
This is the first public release. So far it's been me writing it and a few friends beta testing, so there will be bugs. If something looks off, Settings → App → Export diagnostics gives you a zip (no match data, and your MTGO name is stripped) that you can attach to a GitHub issue, email to [contact@senseitop.com](mailto:contact@senseitop.com), or just ask about here.
The code is AGPL and I'd be happy to have help. Log-format fixes are the most useful thing (MTGO and Arena both change their logs without warning), but bug reports, docs and translations all help. There's a CONTRIBUTING.md if you want to dig in.
It also does Arena, plus per-match reports and an RCQ prep guide. The written guides work by giving you a prompt to paste into whatever assistant you already use, or with your own Claude key.

Any feedback is welcome, especially about what's missing for how you actually play MTGO.

What's wrong with people like this..
For the record, I only played one rare/mythic in the first match. Which was a great one, sure (dimir Sphinx), but otherwise this was a fairly ok ish deck.
We all get screwed or flooded sometime, just breath in and out. This game however opponent just got outvalued by me. To be honest it was quite a weak deck with a lot of filler cards that I saw so not sure the draws were the main problem.
And, to answer my opponent's question: yes I'm very proud, this was the best win of my Magic career.

Is MTGO a worth alternative?
Hello guys,
hope you are doing well.
In the last months I’m facing some difficulties for playing paper magic, due the fact I have a ton of duties and I cannot find the time (and often the desire) to go to my lgs to play.
I used to play just modern and sometimes commander with friends but now I live so far away from them that playing isn’t possible.
So here’s the question: is MTGO a worth alternative?
Does it worth to pay a subscription to manatraders etc to play?
Since I love paper magic but I’m questioning if has some sense to continue to build decks (and spend money) on something I’ll play just once on semester.
I even collect so I’ll keep doing that but I was thinking to stop building modern decks and maybe just buy commander precons to collect/play them sometimes but I don’t know if a digital alternative may satisfy myself.
Anyone else faced the same? What do you think?
Thanks in advance for your time and have a great day

Is MTG Finance a viable thing on Magic Online?Hey everyone!
Hey everyone!
I've been getting interested in MTG Finance lately, and I was wondering if it's possible to apply the same principles to Magic Online (MTGO) rather than physical cards.
Is it possible to invest in digital cards, buy low and sell high, speculate on cards that might increase in value, and make a profit over time?
I'm also curious about a few things:
- Is the MTGO card market liquid enough to make consistent profits?
- Are there any reliable tools or websites to track prices and identify good investment opportunities?
- Do people actually make money trading digital cards, or are the margins too small after fees and other costs?
- Are there specific formats or types of cards that offer better opportunities?
- How does MTGO finance compare to investing in paper Magic cards?
I'd love to hear from anyone who has experience with MTGO trading or finance. Any tips, resources, or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

I just got to mtgo and I got a lot of cards and I am not sure what deck should I make before spending more money
As the title says. I want a free deck that can be made with the cards I've received when I got the upgrade. Or what should I sell from the bulk? Right now, I made a pauper monoblack aggro deck, but I'm renting some cards. Any suggestions?

Dropping the ball with regard to glitches
Lure of Prey has been bugged for months. No fix, no indication that it will be. It’s not a difficult trigger, either. Just “Cast only when an opponent casts a creature spell this turn. You may put a green creature from your hand onto the battlefield.”
Looks like two reports have been made on the MTGO Bug Report forum.
Is there a better way to get bugs cleared or are we at the whim of the Q&A team that is almost certainly overworked and underpaid?

Can the new Karn make a name for itself is everyone's favorite grindy, attrition based deck, and can Mole Man let us out value the meta? Let's find out!
As always thanks for watching and for any feedback. If you enjoyed the video please consider dropping a like and a comment, and be sure to subscribe to the channel to know when my videos go live.

Extra Turn update: new free features, a reworked sideboard guide, and a month of Pro to try them
I'm the dev of Extra Turn, the MTGO tracker I posted here in August. Thanks to everyone who tried it and gave feedback. Here's what I've been working on.
New and free
- Twitch extension: viewers can hover any card on an MTGO stream to read it, and see the pack during drafts.
- Your opponent's likely deck, plus the cards it usually plays that you haven't seen yet.
- League runs and trophies, and each matchup split into game 1 vs. after sideboarding.
Pro (where I most need feedback)
- The sideboard guide got reworked. Some of you said it guessed too much, and you were right. It now recognizes a lot more decks and names them right more often, shows what its read is based on, asks "looks like X or Y?" when it can't tell two decks apart, and stops suggesting cuts to your own engine when it isn't sure.
- Card prices in tix while you draft.
- A suggested 40-card deck for draft and sealed, with what to add and cut marked right in MTGO's deck editor.
Want to help test it?
If you'd like time to try the Pro features over a few leagues or sealed events, code REDDIT30 makes your first month of Pro free (Subscription → Upgrade in the app; cancel before the month ends and you won't be charged). Redeem the code by Oct 31.
What would help me most is specific examples: a sideboard plan that makes no sense, a deck you'd never register, or a draft grade you disagree with. Show me what it suggested and what you'd do differently.

Poor experience in Bo3 Match Making- Using interface with motor disability.
I had been looking to get back into modern, but given no store in my area runs it anymore I've opted to use MTGO which I haven't touched since 2015. One reason I stopped was the chess clock. I have partial paralysis in my dominant hand which makes it difficult to execute certain fine motor actions (like click dragging with the mouse) as quickly as I would like and occasionally I double click when I don't mean to due to occasional spasms that affect my ring and pinky finger. On paper I'm as fast as anyone, but online this creates some problems.
I'm familiar enough to know to keep 1 and 6 in an accessible spot, but I still have issues ordering triggers quickly (I do auto yield and all that, but I'm not aware of a way to save trigger orders between two different abilities to speed this up).
The issue today came from playing on the (non-league) Bo3 match maker for modern. I was under the impression that this is the place to test decks and to familiarize one's self with the meta, and that there's no requirement to be running T1 decks. I am running/testing an updated version of the Mono-U Walks deck that I used to bring to FNM's/PTQ's. It may not end up being as viable as it once was, but I want to give it a chance to adapt before I invest in an entirely new T1 deck that I may not end up enjoying rather than a deck for which I spent a lot of time learning the lines and matchups in the past and know I enjoy playing. If it ends up being a bust, whatever, I'll just play UW control or something, but I figured that the Bo3 queue was the place to test it before I make that call and spend a bunch of tix.
As a note, admittedly, when the deck combos off it isn't the most fun thing to be on the other side of, but it's about the same play time as storm. Once it gets going there's usually a point where I have a good enough hand to show an opponent such that they concede without my having to go through every step. Usually that takes about 5-6 extra turns, many of which are just casting a 7 mana blue [[explore]] and going to the next 7 mana blue explore until I get to [[Jace, Wielder of Mysteries]] and win. We're not talking eggs or lantern control here is my point- there's a clear point where it's basically impossible for me to lose and extra time spent in a match is due entirely to an opponent refusing to concede. It will become clear why this is relevant.
Tonight on mtgo I was playing against an opponent running some sort of [[enigmatic incarnation]] deck I hadn't seen before and assumed it was also some sort of brew. I was on the play and start taking extra turns turn 3 off of a miracle'd [[Temporal Mastery]]. This is where the chess clock becomes an issue. The deck runs [[howling mine]] and [[dictate of kruphix]] to generate card advantage on extra turns to dig for more walks or ways to delay a turn like [[gigadrowse]]. I set the triggers to auto yield so that I don't have to respond to them, but each time I had to order them which, as previously mentioned, is the part that is difficult for me through the interface. I told the opponent at around extra turn 7 (about 10 minutes into my time) that there's basically no chance for me to lose and that we can go to game two if they want.
I start getting pretty nasty dms from the opponent at this point, saying the modern queue is for testing for tournaments only and I'm wasting people's time, should play MTGA if I want to solitaire, that sort of thing. I ignore them and just say they can concede any time they want. They don't, so it takes me about 15 minutes total, a little over half my time, to walk through the deck and win as a result, not aided by the aforementioned issue with speedily ordering triggers/double clicking.
Game 2 I lost after a land flood and none of my sb pieces so we go to game 3 which I start winning handily. All the while nothing but rude dms in chat from the other player, saying they were going to report me for slow play (lol) while I combo'd off and that I shouldn't even be playing modern. I ignore them and likely would have won were my client not to bug out which ate about 2 minutes of my time and ended up drawing.
I block and report them for harassment and move on, but I couldn't help but feel sluggish every time I played and the negativity from the opponent has made me self conscious that maybe I'm not fast enough at the interface to be playing online. I've made some game losing errors due to double clicking when targeting which has been an issue for distributing gigadrowse copies, for example, or skipping a trigger that I meant to take an action on. The chess clock makes this all worse and does not feel particularly accessible to me. I feel like I'm racing to preserve as much of my time as possible, which makes the game more stressful when I'm just trying to play a turn-based game that, on paper, accommodated my disability perfectly fine. I've never been given a slow play in my two decades on paper, even if there were occasional draws in certain match ups.
I guess I'm asking: Are there any other shortcuts or workarounds to make the interface more manageable in a timely fashion, particularly for shortcutting ordered triggers? Should I just give up on playing control/combo decks I tend to enjoy that require a lot of ordering the stack? Am I wrong that the constructed match making for non-events is for this sort of testing? If so, where should I be testing off-meta decks against a meta I intend to play against?
Sorry this was so long. The whole experience has set me in a bad head space wondering if this is still the game for me.

Lutris MTGO bugs
Im running omarchy, which is arch based and use hyprland. Sometime when a window swtiches, the game will just disapear and stop running. Also popups dont really work very well, as sometimes i need to tab in and out repeatedly to get the popup to be clicked. Does anyone else have these problems?
