(NYC/Commuter advice)
I went to NYC Saturday night and re-experienced how difficult and expensive it can be. The round-trip alone cost me $60 and added 3 hours of travel time to a 2-hour dinner.
Anyway, it prompted me to revise my list of "alternative ways to get in/out of NYC".
Can you help make this list better?

I've been looking into kitchen remodeling options in Montclair, and I'm trying to figure out whether hiring an independent kitchen designer is worth the extra expense. I want a kitchen that looks good but also works for everyday cooking, storage, and entertaining. One option I'm considering is working with a company like Cabinet IQ, which brings cabinet selection, countertop choices, layout planning, and remodeling coordination together. I've also come across other kitchen and bath businesses, including Kitchens and Baths, and I'm curious how their design processes compare.
What matters most to me:
Getting a practical layout rather than just attractive cabinets
Staying within budget without regretting material choices
Making sure the design translates properly into installation
Would you personally pay extra for an independent designer, or can a good showroom design team handle these details?

Hi I'm moving to Montclair from out of state and would appreciate any tips or tricks to living in the area.
I'm also very interested in renting an off street parking space so if anyone knows of someone or a place that would be fantastic as well.

We are moving into a 100+ year old house in the area in a couple of weeks. Unfortunately, the inspector told us the boiler needs to be replaced, it doesn’t even have a pump. The boiler is 60 years old and is failing to send hot water to the radiators on second and third floors. It has a very old system where the hot water needs to be drawn up to the third floor using a tank, which is still up there. The house also doesn’t have any AC.
Does anyone have a recommendation for a company that can help us replace the boiler and potentially put some form of central air in the house? We need someone who is knowledgeable about old houses and systems.

I don't live in Montclair, but in one of the surrounding towns. I drive in Montclair daily and every time I'm there, there are always a lot of people in the street. I'm not talking about bicyclists either, just tons of pedestrians next to a wide open sidewalk. Is there a reason for this, like some kind of town rule or something? The only time I've seen that many people in the street was in very low col areas. Im not judging; it's just the only time I've seen this many people in the street, especially in a nice town, and it seems a little dangerous, but do your thing Montclair.
Is there a reason for it or does Montclair just hate the sidewalk?

Hey guys,
I am interested in moving to NJ. My goal within the next 1-2 years is to buy my own studio apartment. I've already lived in Manhattan and Brooklyn I like them a lot. However, Its too expensive to buy. Hence, I think somewhere in NJ might be more aligned with my goal.
What I'm looking for: I'm looking for somewhere that's centrally located. I like walking around. For instance, I like clothing stores, restaurants, bars, rooftop bars and if possible nightclubs and live music. The latter are not required but it would be nice.
What I'm considering: I'm considered a older building without a front desk. I've actually enjoyed living without a front desk than with a front desk since there's no asking for permissions to bring guests. I've lived in Downtown Manhattan in an older building with no front desk and had no issue. However, I wonder if that's possible in some cities in NJ or if its less safe? Where it might be a better idea to have a front desk?
What I value: I value Education and Learning. For instance, I notice that Hoboken is close to the School of Rock. While Montclair has the French Alliance Institute. Both make them appealing locations. I am interested in taking lessons in music and languages. Its not a requirement but its something nice.
What I am trying to avoid: I'm trying to avoid buildings with older folks, retirees and wealthy investors. I'm noticed when a building has older people they have a lot of rules. For instance, strict thrash rules, high common charges and overnight guests rules. Also there's buildings where the landlords/investors bought the apartment only to rent it during certain season so there's a lot of noise since they keep remodeling them.
While not require I also prefer buildings without pets since I've lived in a building without pets and enjoyed it.
What I'm cautious of: Newark is a college town and I like being around that type of crowd. However, I wonder if its safe? Also if there's only 1 or 2 bars where the college students go to and then later everyone leaves for the weekend? I've lived in a college town before and something like that happened that during the weekends everyone left and the surrounding town was not safe and there was nothing to do.
Conclusion: If you have any recommendations or ideas feel free to share them over here. In terms of visiting NYC, I'm mostly looking to go to the city once or twice a week during weekends.

Members Carole Willis, Shivaun Gaines and Geoffrey Borshof voted in favor of the application.
I can't believe they let this farce go on for 6 months, and that somehow these 3 board members still found their way to vote for it. Anyone who's tried to drive or park in Upper Montclair during a busy hour could tell you this was a mistake.
They shouldn't have wasted so much time wringing their hands over a bad idea, but this is Montclair after all...

Hello, I am a student at Rutgers University conducting a survey on flooding at Edgemont Memorial Park for a school project. This survey should only take a minute or two and I would love to hear from you. Thank you for your time!
