Help with my 5L hilux oil

Hi all. My hilux is due for a service but i’m stumped on what oil i should actually use.

Been using this 20w-50 oil for about 15k (serviced every 5ks during that) without issue. (I know it says petrol, on the back it says suitable for light diesel engines too). It was put in by my ex when we got the car running again so i just stuck to it as it seemed to run on it good. That specific oil is hard for me to get locally now and ive been looking at changing oils but as mentioned, im stumped on what i should use.

I’d like to keep a thicker oil in it but have heard the 20w-50 can start to be rough on it with cold starts. Otherwise i’d get the gulf western or nulon 20w-50. I was considering switching to the Penrite HPR diesel 15w-50 but again im really unsure 😅

Engine has about 430 thousand kms on it. A bit of a leak but i havent need to top it off after 5k on the 20w-50 (i check that shit religiously too😂)

Buying 2020 SR5 +

Hey everyone,
I’m looking at potentially buying a Hilux privately from a neighbour and wanted to get some opinions on what would be a fair price in the current Australian market.
**Vehicle details:**
2020 Toyota Hilux SR5+
Automatic
150 kW engine
111,000 km
One owner
Full service history
Apparently never been taken off-road
Great condition inside and out
**Accessories and extras:**
Canopy
Roof racks
Nudge bar
Upgraded rear suspension with a new leaf spring
Dual-battery system
Cigarette-style power outlet in the rear tub
Towbar with Anderson plug
Leather interior and heated seats (SR5+)
It’s a private sale, and because it’s coming from a neighbour, I’d ideally like to agree on a fair price for both of us rather than either of us getting ripped off.
What do you reckon it’s worth in the current market? What would you personally be willing to pay for it?

Hey everybody,

I wanna buy a ln106 to mod and take 4wding, only problem is, im 6 foot 6 and the ln106 cabin seems pretty small. I currently drive a d22 navara, and I fit in that fine, but I'm a bit concerned that I wont fit in the ln106 at all.

Issue with Hilux Vigo 2KD after engine upgrades

Ao I have had my Hilux Vigo for over 3 years, during this time I've been doing few upgrades here and there because initially I wasn't happy with its power.

About 1 and a half years back I put +30 Injector nozzles from PHC and it made a massive difference on power comparatively and I was happy but was having a bit of smoke from the exhaust.

Then I have upgraded my Turbo for a 41mm billet wheel from my stock 36mm turbo, immediately it would go into a limp mode at close to 3000rpm then I had a stage 2 tune done.

Now if i run it on high RPM for a few seconds it still goes into limp mode with the P0093 - Large Leak Detected but driving normally is ok.

Anyone has any ideas or experiences to share?

These rims worth anything?

These are discontinued but I want to run the original stock wheels if I can find them. Just want to know how much I would be able to sell these rims for, they are 15 inches and good condition

They are on my 92 Hilux

Hey everyone. I bought this 09 Hilux V6 auto a year ago and ever since then it’s had this weird problem where if you accelerate it sometimes hesitates? Doesn’t happen if accelerating slow or slamming your foot down. I’ve done the spark plugs and it didn’t change anything. Other then that it idles fine and changes gears fine. Please help!!!

What makes you trust a supplier’s quotation for aftermarket auto parts?

Price and response time matter, but I wouldn’t treat either as enough on its own.

I’d want to understand exactly which product and application the supplier is quoting, whether the reference is clear, and whether the quantity, MOQ and lead time match the requirement. Depending on the part, I might also ask for photos, a sample or other verification before moving forward.

For mixed RFQs, I’d also consider whether the supplier can cover the lines required or whether several sources need to be coordinated.

For people who buy or source automotive aftermarket parts, what is your practical checklist for evaluating a new supplier? Which warning signs make you pause before placing an order?

Any regrets?

I've been looking at older hiluxs for a year or two now and really love the idea of owning one. It would be a daily driver in a pretty rural area with some rough roads + occasional adventure vehicle for some light offroading and camping. We have minor floods and tropical rainstorms regularly that make my current small car pretty unsuitable/scary to drive.

I'm currently looking at something from 1990 that appears to be incredibly well looked after and built. Manual diesel xtra cab 111r (IFS) with pretty low Ks. Minimal upgrades just a bullbar, second battery no turbo and a 2 inch lift.

Does anyone here have major regrets in buying an old lux ? What's it like to actually own one, what's the upkeep/maintenance like? How's the real world fuel economy at highway speeds. How hard is it to learn how to maintain one of these cars yourself ?

2021 Toyota Hilux: Is this amount of rust normal after 5 years? Also, is this a cracked weld? (Photos attached)

Hey everyone,

I own a 2021 Toyota Hilux Invincible 4x4 with approximately 78,000 km (48,500 miles). I'm based in western Turkey, near the Aegean Sea. I am the first and only owner of the car.

I use the truck for everyday driving, road trips, and occasional off-roading.

I recently inspected the underside and noticed quite a bit of rust around the chassis rails, welds, mounting brackets, bolts, and rear leaf springs.

For context, I've never driven the truck into sea. However, I frequently drive along coastal roads and near beaches, and I live fairly close to the sea, so the vehicle is regularly exposed to salty coastal air.

One thing that particularly caught my attention is a suspicious area on one of the chassis bracket welds. I've included a close-up photo with the area circled and an arrow pointing to it.

To my untrained eye, it almost looks like a crack or separation along the weld, but I'm not sure whether it's an actual crack, a manufacturing weld irregularity, or simply surface corrosion.

I've attached several photos and a video showing the affected areas.

A few questions:

  1. Does the circled area look like a cracked weld to you? Or is this normal welding quality for a Toyota Hilux?
  2. Are the rusty welds and suspension mounting brackets particularly concerning?
  3. Is this common on Hiluxes?
  4. Should I treat the rust now? What's the best long-term approach to protecting the chassis?
  5. Are there any specific rust-prone areas on this generation that I should inspect more closely?

I'm planning to keep this truck for many more years, so I'd rather address any potential issues early.

Would appreciate opinions from fellow Hilux owners and experienced mechanics.

Thanks!

Fuel filter question

Just changed the fuel filter on my hilux with a ryco r2619p and primed the filter however I noticed that when priming the filter until solid there was no visible leakage of fuel but when I drove around my street and checked again I could see visible fuel around the base of the housing.

Is this common with a new filter or should I be worried about the housing?
