Mobile & Desktop Software We make Garmin widgets for iPhone and 2.0 is almost here. Android next?

Hi, I'm Ferran. We make WristGrid, an iPhone app that puts your Garmin numbers on the Home Screen and Lock Screen. Body Battery, stress, sleep and recovery at a glance, right on your phone. It's been on the App Store since August, it's on version 1.3, and a bit over 500 people used it last month.

Every time an app like this shows up here, someone asks "Android?". So we're asking for real. If enough of you want it, we build it. Same app, same rules, just adapted to how Android does widgets and health data. We're looking for Android beta testers, so if you're in, sign up on the beta list (link in the comments). Honestly the number of sign ups decides if this happens.

On iPhone, 1.3 is the current version and it's solid. 2.0 is close and it's our biggest update yet. Redesigned widgets, your own goals, and four more languages (German, French, Italian and Brazilian Portuguese). Some of it can still change, which is kinda why we're here.

How it works, and why we built it this way. You install the app on your phone and a free companion app on your watch from the Connect IQ Store. That's it. No unpairing, no closing Connect first, no pairing tricks. Garmin Connect keeps doing its job and WristGrid never fights it for your data. Both are native apps, one on the iPhone and one on the watch, built only with the tools Garmin gives developers, so a watch update shouldn't break anything overnight.

It works with over 100 watches out of the box, and the full list is on the Connect IQ page. You don't have to be the beta tester for your own watch.

Body Battery, stress, steps and most metrics come straight from the watch over Bluetooth, no internet needed. Sleep and workouts come from Apple Health, written there by Garmin Connect, which is the native way Garmin shares them. Your Garmin and Health data stays on your phone. No account.

There's also a small app behind the widgets, with your day, your sleep and your trends. It's a nice extra, not a Connect replacement.

It's a paid app, so you know up front. We went with a one time price, around $21.99, because we're tired of subscriptions on everything, and lifetime means lifetime. Even so, we added a monthly option, around $5.99 with a 7 day free trial, for anyone who wants to try it first. Prices shift a bit by country.

Widgets update as fast as iOS lets us. Sometimes iOS is strict about it, but tbh day to day it works really well.

Happy to answer anything in the comments. We also just opened r/WristGrid to vote on widgets and talk about the app.

General Information Instinct 3 50mm (current) vs Fenix 8 Solar 51mm sizing

Trying out the Fenix 8 51mm, does it look like it fits my wrist? I currently wear a 50mm Instinct and love it, the additional screen size makes the Fenix feel substantially larger even though it’s not. I don’t notice the added height or weight from the Fenix. The screen on the Fenix is noticeably dimmer, but I love the color, touch screen and added depth and graphics in the data screens.

Haven’t seen this posted before, but I also noticed the green light on the Instinct is noticeably brighter than the red light on the Fenix. I use the flashlight all the time so I’m curious to see if that will matter to me.

Hola,

Gracias

Only reason I even want something with an esim is to track the watch when watch is LOST, incase of losing it. Currently have a Samsung ultra watch and I can track it with the esim activated with find my option and it will let me track it , but no flashlight and battery life stinks ! I just returned the the fenix 9 pro solar/inreach because I cant track it , flashlight is kool and maps but thats really it.

General Information Switch from forerunner 955 to Instinct 3 solar

I have a forerunner 955 and recently have been thinking about selling it and getting an Instinct 3 Solar.

I mostly run and strength train. Do a bit of cycling, swimming and hiking but not as much as when I first got the watch. I never use the maps or the built in music.

I like the idea of the flash light and the solar and all the features I use in the 955 seem to be on the Instinct.

Is this a bad idea?

Sensor Questions Altitude all over the place

Post image
7 Upvotes

My Garmin Forerunner 970 recently started having bonkers altitude readings. 40k ft above sea level then -18k. I swim in a pool followed by a hot tub three days per week, then various other exercises in the afternoon. Never had a problem. I soaked the watch in fresh water, used an ultrasonic cleaner and still weird readings. Wondering if that has something to do with the latest firmware update they pushed out. Any one else seeing this issue?

Connectivity and Syncing Interest in Apple Health metrics on your watch?

I’ve coded an IOS app that reads data (with your permission) from Apple Health (macros like calories, protein, carbs, etc) along with Blood pressure readings and glucose readings. I also have a corresponding Garmin glance / app that displays all of these. You can select which ones you want to show on the glance. My plan was to make the IOS app free and just charge a one time fee for the Garmin app. I’ve not released any of this yet, but I have it all working.

You can use any nutrition tracking app (MFP, etc) as long as you as it writes data to Apple health. Same with blood pressure and glucose readings.

No personal is used or stored in any way. A unique code is generated on your phone, entered in the watch app and that code is used to retrieve just numbers from the IOS app.

Is there interest from the community (besides me)?

General Information Thoughts and Tips please

I have been a Garmin watch user for the last 6 or 7 years, I also use the scale and blood pressure cuff.

This year I have been in the midst of a big health journey. It has culminated with me working out 5 days a week, tracking all my food macros, using peptides, etc.

I am on a great trajectory and love the data my Garmin provides in addition to other sources.

My questions are:
How do people track activities that Garmin doesn’t have “natively”, for example, I use a Recumbent elliptical daily, no option?

How do you track weight workouts? Reps, exercises, weight, etc.

Given the past 4 months of drastic lifestyle changes, should I consider a total reset and rebasline?

it isn’t seeing the whole picture because it can’t track certain things. How do you manage around this?

I have a Fenix 9 Pro coming and wonder if it would be the time to do it.

Any insight or thoughts would be great.

Repairs and Warranties Run Button doesn't work (Forerunner 235)

Well, I got this watch secondhand and two years ago I started a run but the button froze and I couldn't finish. After the battery died, I noticed that the watch always returned to the run menu (so I gave up on the watch). Today in 2026 I tried again, deleted the activity files from my computer, but the button is still unresponsive. Any ideas what to do?

Feature Help Sharing location w/o using phone

Garmin forerunner 265 and iPhone

Id like to be able be able to share my location with people when I’m hiking and skiing without using my phone’s location services (to save phone battery. I thought there would be a way to send a link that allows them to see my watches location but now that I’m trying to set this up it seems that all location sharing needs to go through a phone with cell service.

Also is this something that is done through LiveTrack or Garmin Messenger?

I don't trust the heart rate coming from my fenix 6. No matter what run I do. Distance 30/60 whatever. My heartrate is 180 almost immediately and stays there. This was this morning 4 mile

Data Questions Average Stress Seems Wrong

Post image

The average stress value (while sleeping) for one night was listed as 31, but no individual data point on the graph was above 25 (see screenshot). Has anyone seen a botched calculation like this (with Venu 4)? Am I misunderstanding something?

Watches from Other Manufacturers Garmin vs Oura Ring vs Apple Watch – which one would you recommend?

My Apple Watch has unfortunately died, and now I’m struggling to decide whether to get a new Apple Watch or switch to a Garmin or an Oura Ring.
I don’t work out that much, but I enjoy walking and like keeping track of my steps. I’d also love to track my sleep and get more insights into my overall health. Battery life is quite important to me, as I don’t want to have to charge my device every day, especially if I want to track my sleep as well.
I have an iPhone, so an Apple Watch would make sense, but I’m also really interested in Garmin and Oura. I’m looking for something that will last me a long time and is reliable for tracking steps and sleep.
What would you recommend for someone like me? I’d love to hear your experiences with any of these devices!

General Information Is $670 a good deal for a nearly-new Garmin fēnix 8

I'm considering buying a secondhand Garmin fēnix 8 and would appreciate some advice.

Listing details:

- Model: Garmin fēnix 8, 47 mm, DLC version

- Price: $670

- Condition: Advertised as 99%

- Seller says it has been kept powered off

- No warranty card

- Seller refuses further negotiation

Would you consider $670 a good price in October 2026, given the condition and missing warranty card?

Would you buy it, or wait for a better deal? I'd especially appreciate feedback from people familiar with secondhand Garmin prices

Thanks!

Connectivity and Syncing Vivoactive 6 Vibration Issues?

I got the Vivoactive 6 a few weeks ago for my birthday and really enjoy it so far. I had the forerunner 55 previously, so this feels like a massive upgrade. My one complaint so far is that my text notifications randomly have stopped vibrating. I’ve tried to troubleshoot this a few times and result to either restarting the watch or completely deleting and setting it up again in the app. Has anybody else run into this issue before? If so, any idea how to fix this in a quicker way?

EDIT: Called customer support and they are aware of the issue. Apparently 30ish folks have reported this same problem, so Garmin is working on diagnosing the issue and will send out an update ASAP once they figure it out.

Data Questions How seriously should I take the body battery score?

Generally speaking, my body battery score peaks in the 40s. There has been one day where it hit 80, and it was indeed a good day where I got a good night of sleep and was relatively low stress. But then it dipped back down and I've had days where it doesn't even crack 30. How useful do you find this measurement? How heavily would you say to take that into consideration?

Data Questions Do these take a while to calibrate (new Garmin Cirqua)

Thumbnail
gallery
0 Upvotes

First full day with a Garmin Cirqua (didn't feel comfortable to wear it overnight yet - still a bit odd feeling to have something on my Upper Arm) and I'm just looking at my HR track vs an old Fitbit one (used to wear it on an ankle strap which gave me a decent ballpark).

I can see like the Fitbit it pings when I use stairs (my day is full of accidental HIIT) and I have a confirmed high Autonomic Rate as apparently my fight or flight is quite triggered. Cardiologist described it as you run with the choke out which is a thing & not overly uncommon. Normal Sinus rhythm, clear Echo Cardiogram due to a load of tests in the last 12 to 18 months due to middle age checks. Two things have surprised me - 1) I seem a little more Tachycardic than usual (but I was seriously unwell last month - deep space infection, septic, large amount of drugs - but am back in my usual routine and felt quite well) I'm figuring these may take a while to calibrate and get used to me as well? 2) My calorie figure is through the roof at just before 15:00. Just over 4k steps on the day and apparently I've done 2.5k calories? I figured this might be the case but the Fitbit rarely put me at more than 2200. This is the first time I've seen a wait hold on there figure.

For added context - I loss 10% of my body weight (about 8kg) when ill last month so I'd imagine that might be in play as well?

Watch Faces Good FR 570 screenprotector?

Would love to get a good screenprotector that doesn’t mess up the aesthetic of the watch.
