Official Discussion [MEGATHREAD] Tarnished Edition: Worth $5? Discuss CONSTRUCTIVELY!

Since the sub is being overwhelmed by debate over the $5 "microtransaction" and it's making the sub feel like we're Dark Souls 2 a decade ago, with the faux outrage around the preorder items, we are opening this topic to consolidate discussion around the issue.

Please use this topic to discuss the pros and cons of the approach and your thoughts. But do so RESPECTFULLY and CONSTRUCTIVELY. If you need to call other people or the developers names, you don't have a good argument and your post will be removed.

We will remove all other topics about this to keep the subreddit flowing with other discussions

IF YOU WANT TO VOTE: I will post two comments on this topic, "Yay" and "Nay" - upvote the one you agree with and we'll see who wins long term.

Hype If there's a perfect boss, it's him

I have to say. This is consistently the single most loved boss fight by a big part of the community.

Personally my top 2. If someone asked me what boss feels the best to fight, it's this guy right here.

Finally picked her up when I took my first ever visit to Japan last month. Maybe I'll find more hats for her.

Humor So... I was sitting on the bed drinking a glass of water and I noticed that the marks the glass was making on the bedspread were very familiar. So I tried my best to replicate it.

As a tribute to the man who has selflessly helped so many of us over the years, I cosplayed as the shirtless, jar-headed legend himself this year at New York ComicCon!

The jar helmet took me over a month to create and even longer to plan; and this was my first real stab at serious costume/prop making. After a month of sanding, carving, glueing, pasting, spray painting…some more sanding AND more painting, I’m SUPER happy with how it turned out in the end and I can’t wait for the opportunity to wear it out again!

Let me know if anyone would be interested in a behind-the-scenes / build video. My 8-year old daughter and I had a blast making this thing and we’d love to share all the amazing things we learned through the process.

Anyone else ever do any Elden Ring / Soulsbourne cosplays at conventions? or just for fun? Post your pics in the comments!!

Praise the Sun!! ✊🏾

I am currently in spirit caller cave. I have no problem with the first boss in this cave. I start with 11 health pots and I usually have 8/9 when I’m at this fat man. I have trouble dodging his rolling attack. I am also having trouble finding a good attack strategy against him. Please help

Discussion & Info I hate the dragon battles in Elden Ring.

One hit, it flies far away; one hit, it flies off to breathe fire; one hit, it flies far away again. And the battle camera is awful!

Hype Just started the DLC…

Like many people, I started Elden Ring at launch and quickly felt out of my element. I had no idea what was going on and was dying CONSTANTLY. I got frustrated and out of sorts, so I put it down and decided it wasn't for me.

Now, many years later, I find myself laid off from my job as a UX Designer (thanks, AI) with a lot of time on my hands. So I decided the best way to make myself feel worse was to jump back into the game! Only this time, I used a guide. The wiki progress route, to be specific. It really helped me understand that no, that guy on horseback is not supposed to be at my skill level right now, and yes, let's take the south road first. I got really into it, and my first playthrough was incredible. I felt accomplished, even with the "cheating" guide. Still, I couldn't shake the feeling that I'd missed out on the wonder of Elden Ring: getting lost, doing something dumb, and figuring it out on my own.

Now, on NG+, after running around and demolishing everything at my whim, I decided to try the DLC. This time, without a guide, the experience is vastly different. The guide really showed me how important it is to look around and explore, and never trust anything. Ever.

I'm enjoying the DLC so far. There's a lot of running around yelling and ending up places I maybe shouldn't be yet. But it feels more like my experience and my playthrough.

Using the guide was the right call for me to learn and progress, so I'm glad I did it. I know I'll never get the full, blind wonder of the Lands Between.

All this to say, I've never believed there's a right or wrong way to play a video game, as long as you're enjoying it. Though I do feel there's an intended experience in games that can be missed.
