Hey everyone! 👋
I'm a didgeridoo player from France, and I love exploring the instrument through improvisation.
I enjoy experimenting with electronic beats, deep bass and hypnotic rhythms, but above all, I just love playing the didgeridoo.
Here's one of my improvisations. Hope you enjoy it!
Cheers! 🤘

To preface: my mom one day walked in my room and just handed me a 3-4ish ft plastic didgeridoo she picked up at a yard sale for like $10. It plays nice enough for my purposes and has a rubber mouth piece that fits so it works. It’s quite a bit better than the random pvc pipe I’ve screwed around on before. I know it’s not incredibly authentic or whatever but I spend too much money on playing the bass and guitar anyway so I’m alright with my tertiary instrument being cheap.
I’ve watched some videos for beginner didgeridoo, haven’t learned to circular breathe (yet), but I noticed the guy in the video had a much present and buzzier high end than I can get on mine. I can make decent sounding low notes and some higher ones, but my tone doesn’t sound anything like that. I can get somewhat decent embouchure and tone out of it, but nothing super high and buzzy. Is this a technique thing or is that just something I shouldn’t expect out of a plastic didge?
As it is I’ve already brought it to the Santa Monica pier and played alongside my friend on harmonica (nothing serious or done for any money, just having some fun)
I’ve also tried this thing for fun where I kind of throat sing into it, both having my voice project and my lips vibrate to create sound in a traditional way. It reverberates back, creating an interesting sound, though I don’t know if this is any real technique or just me screwing around.
As admittedly silly as it seems to other people (and myself as of a week ago) I actually want to learn this instrument at a level to where I can have some fun jamming with it and play some real music. My perceptions of it being a sort of “joke instrument” like a vuvuzela or kazoo have completely vanished as I’ve learned more about it and its history. Any help in beginner knowledge or technique would be greatly appreciated!

Is bamboo a good material for a begginer didgeridoo? Its about the only thing I've thought of that I can get my hands on rn. I wanted to carve it out with a metal rod. Any tips on what I shouldnt do?

So I have two bamboo didges and the carbon fiber didge fm airdidge. The bamboo ones sound pretty decent, the airdidge although extremely portable lacks a LOT on the tone department. The other day I heard an artist playing a "sax" didge on the street and the overtones produced from that thing were so clear and pronounced.
I ve been playing for two years now so I d say I m an intermediate/begginer player now. I wouldn t say I ve mastered the instrument but I ve got a pretty solid control of my circ breathing and my drone.
Could you reccomend an instrument or a shop that sells one (in europe preferably), that will produce that coveted crisp tones??

Hey there, I recently had to say goodbye to my agave buddy of 12 years. I watched it shoot up a stalk nearly a year ago and begin to flower last March. Over the summer it produced hundreds of agave pups that I've given away. For any agave nerds, it's an Agave desmettiana variegata. I figure the best tribute would be to turn it's stalk into a didgeridoo.
Tonight I hacked off the remaining leaves and pulled it out of soil. Where do I go from here?
I want to get as much of the base as I can, so I'm planning to cut away at the "pineapple" section on the bottom to see if it's possible to get something with a larger diameter to it.
Let me know if you've done a project like this, I'm curious to know where to begin!

Hello everyone!
I finally my found a didgeridoo and had it shipped from outside the country.
Made of Agave in C#.
Pics are from before purchase.
I received it about a week ago. The person who made it finished it with Polyurethane. Before I received it, it had already been made for 2 weeks.
When I received it, it wasnt wet, but it still had a lingering smell of the finish and the outside had a big of stickiness to it. I reached out to him and he said said just to leave it out, but it was safe to play.
To be sure, I left it standing up in a small room with the window open.
Limited on places I can put it without damaging it.
So its been 3 weeks and still has that lingering finish smell. Specifically on the inside.
My question is, is it really safe to play? Or should I leave it out a fre weeks more?

How long did it take before you could do a perfect drone every time you put your lips to the instrument? I've been playing for about 3 months, and every single time I put my lips to the didge in order to make sound, I have to search for the perfect spot where the drone becomes great and the harmonics ring out. It seems like there's an infinitisemally (is that the word?) small sweet spot where it becomes rich and bassy and everything becomes easier, after 1 minute of playing it dips out of the sweet spot and it's no longer as good. I then have to try again to find it, only to lose it.
The next time I sit down to play I maybe won't find it at all. Sometimes I think I understand what to do to find the sweet spot, but no, that won't work later. I do think it will iron itself out eventually, but it frustrates me sometimes.
How has your experience been?

Voice Droning in the Key of D. Didge practice aids in sleep apnea by strengthening the throat & tongue muscles resulting in fewer events per hour/per night. Events are times you stop breathing. Practicing the didge also helps me tolerate the CPAP mask, I can now wear the mask all night without taking it off prematurely. My sleep quality has improved.

Are you "TRYING" to learn Circular Breathing?
Just remember - Repetition isn't automatically improvement.
Going to the gym doesn't mean you're training every muscle. 💪
Same with didgeridoo.
Playing for hours can improve your drone, rhythm and endurance — but that doesn't automatically train the coordination needed for cyclic breathing.
TIME SPENT ≠ CORRECT TRAINING → CORRECT TRAINING MUST TARGET THE SKILL.
Train the movement you actually want to improve.
→ Change the Training. → Change the Result.
...and have fun!
