Company Question Google SWE intern 3rd round
this is the email i got. should i do it over the phone? how does the phone round look like? is it better than meet interview?

Per several requests mods have received and discussions, Sankey charts with no extra context will now be removed under rule 9.
What context is acceptable? Basically a bit like gpa, tier of college, previous internships, stuff that might go in a resume. You can try posting a resume but the bot might remove it per rule 5. If you do post a resume and it's removed message me directly and I'll fix that.

I have applied to ~250 positions and gotten 0 interviews since July but a few OAs. Is anyone else getting this? Feeling extremely discouraged

i’ve never seen google post this for undergrads before — is this new? also, has anyone who applied heard back yet?

I don’t know if it’s a bad idea to put people onto how good X is for recruiting but it was what it is. Everyone needs to hop on X and get active there. There are genuine startups looking to hire asap.

Hey everyone,
Basically, I got an offer from SIG for the TSE role. I know that their reputation for SWE pay is not the best, but I’ve heard rumors that they’ve bumped up their comp because a lot of their engineers straight up left.
They’re also offering a ridiculous amount for the internship. Wondering if anyone has heard anything to corroborate the rumors.

Hey everyone! I'm fortunate to have internship offers from three companies for next summer, and I'm trying to decide which one I should choose.
I'm most interested in backend engineering, distributed systems, and infrastructure. I'm also interested in fintech and potentially exploring quant development in the future, but I want to keep my options open for big tech as well. For those who've interned at these places, how was your experience? I've seen mixed things about RO rates so any insight on that would be great as well.
I'd really appreciate any advice or firsthand experiences. Thanks!

This is how my Google SWE intern interviews went. I’d love to hear some feedback about how you guys think I did and whether you guys think I’ll qualify for TM or not.
The first one was a slightly easier version of a leetcode hard, but the interviewer was really nice and after a good amount of back and forth and talking about the problem with him and running through examples, I got the right solution but it did take a couple hints from him and him pointing me in the right direction. We probably talked for about 75% of the interview before about my approach and how I could better it before any substantial code was written down. I’m not sure if that’s a good or a bad sign, but considering it was a hard leetcode I’m assuming he’s had other candidates be stuck on that before. I did land on the correct algorithm myself, but for the actual coding part he gave me a decent amount of verbal hints, though I wrote all the code myself. After I wrote my implementation, with being around 7 minutes overtime, we started talking about time complexity and space complexity and I got time complexity wrong but space complexity right. I overlooked a pretty big part in the time complexity but he didn’t push back or try to nudge me in the right direction, we just moved forward to him asking if there’s any questions from me. This could’ve been a good sign since he was nudging me before and therefore thinks that this wasn’t a big issue, but he might’ve just thought that I was close enough to where he didn’t want to waste more time.
The second one was a slightly harder version of a medium, so that one went much better. I pretty much knew how to do it all in one go except for one part, for which the interviewer said that I could just use abstraction and kind of explain what I was trying to get at since it wasn’t the most important part of the algorithm. I do feel like I rambled on at some parts, but I did get the most optimal solution pretty much all by myself apart from the one part which he said was fine how I had it. For this one, the only part I was stuck on again was the time complexity, and he was asking me the time complexity for certain parts of my method. I was familiar with the overall complexity, but not the different parts so I kind of came up with what the complexity of those smaller chunks would be on the spot and got them wrong by a little but the solution was right and he had no follow up questions on that. He didn’t ask me for space complexity. The overall time complexity for the full method was also correct, just not in the certain parts.
Overall, the first interviewer gave me hints on a harder question where I did all the coding myself and just had to be pointed in the right direction, and the second one I did almost fully myself, and had issues with the time complexity on both interviews. Other than the time complexity, I’d say both interviewers were happy with what I came up with. Not that they were necessarily disappointed with my time complexity answer, but with everything else they accepted what I had and it was correct. How much does Google care about time complexity vs correct implementation and other factors? Do you guys think that the time complexity issue will weigh my score down by a significant amount? Would you say this went good or bad overall?

To the ones who got placed in project matching this week, when did you receive the questionnaire link?
My recruiter mailed me that they are moving forward with my application and that I need to fill the questionnaire but that mail does not include any link. Also I did not receive a separate email for the same.

hello guys, i've always got good help from people here so asking again.
i'm doing masters at top 5 cs schools and i'm an international too.
i've been in a depression loop for quite sometime and i thought change of environment will make me better. but, all along in my 1st and 2nd sems, i've not come out of my room, just hanged out with some people, always crammed work till last minute and completely lost my ownself in general.
i've been getting rejections in the first sem since i didn't put much effort into the resume. after that, i've been guided by good people to correct it, and they gave me contacts to get interns. but i'm always so stressed and i feel so underconfident about my skills that i feel i won't land a job, and hence, i eventually don't even apply.
this resulted in no internship last summer. in the summer, i was again in some loop but couldn't get any work done.
even now, i'm scared. i would graduate in this december and i feel that if i don't apply, i just have to leave the country. but everytime i think about it, i want to get into good places.
for context, i have achieved good grades all my life, did good research and never did good dsa and cp. i keep feeling that if i don't do dsa perfectly, since i don't know basics, i'll fail. but if i apply and get somewhere, i'll still ruin it cause i'm still not perfect. so, i basically did not attend a single interview due to this fear.
i know i should be applying, but i want you guys to please help me out with your words. (i've been getting therapy and i'm doing much better - i'm no longer sad, but i'm also not ready to apply)

Took the OA a couple weeks ago and got a perfect score on it but haven’t heard back from it. I know some people that have gotten technicals lined up and others who got rejected but I haven’t heard back yet. Any idea?

I'm an engineering student looking for winter and summer 2027 internships. I've been getting interviews at good companies but always seem to struggle to answer questions during them. I have challenges with both behaviorals and technicals. The common theme is poorly communicating my thoughts and using lots of filler words. I get so nervous to the point where my mind goes blank and I can't solve or respond to simple questions that I could probably handle find under a more casual setting.
With behaviorals, I struggle to respond to "tell me about yourself" or "name a time you solved a difficult challenge/worked with a team/etc". I feel like the "tell me about yourself" part is really just asking you to explain why you're a good fit for the role. I struggle to give a pitch that's comprehensive without rambling for too long. My formula is pretty much program+school -> what I did at each internship(currently working at my third) -> projects. My intro feels generic and I always ramble about my experience/projects because I don't want to give a superficial summary. Often it becomes incoherent. Does anyone have tips for these types of questions?
For technicals, I fall into the same trap every time(coding, debugging, or even verbal situational questions). I talk really fast out of nervousness and go quiet when I get stuck. Normally, I'm not an awkward person at all, I just get stressed out by interviews because it feels like any answer that isn't exactly what they're looking for is an immediate disqualification. Does anyone have tips or a mental framework for tackling these situations? I think a useful mental model would be asking clarifying questions and stating any assumptions before diving in. People say what's most important is not the answer you arrive upon, but explaining how you got there. How true is that really? How do you continue or ask for hints when you get stuck? Sometimes you get hit with a question that you have no domain or technical knowledge of. I don't want to say "idk" or "can you give me hint".
If anyone struggles with the same bad habits, or has advice to overcome these weak points please share!

Hi, this is my first time posting in this sub, but I (18M) am a first year college student, and I’ve wanted to major in CS for a while, but because a lot of personal stuff happened during my high school years, I never quite got to take my CS courses in High School. This led to me having no coding experience when I walked in the door in college, and for the past 8 weeks, it’s just been structured suffering. Now, I can read and interpret what code does just fine (if that’s even a skill, not sure.) but when it comes to writing my own code, I struggle a lot, to where I’m constantly asking others for help, which is not something I want to always have to do. So I’m posting here to ask, are there any CS majors who struggled with writing code, and if so, what did you do to overcome it? Thanks for reading, or skimming if you did, and have a great day!

Title. Based on last year's timeline OAs should be out by now. Has anyone received one? Has anyone been explicitly rejected?

I'm a first-year engineering student in India, currently in my first semester. My college has a poor reputation, is non-autonomous, and doesn't offer the kind of exposure or opportunities I want. I don't want to rely on my college's reputation, placement cell, or connections to build my career.
My goal is to land an internship abroad in the tech industry based on my own skills, projects, and initiative.
I'm not looking for someone to tell me to follow my dreams or that anything is possible if I work hard enough. I want realistic advice from people who have experience hiring interns, working internationally, building technical careers, or pursuing opportunities outside the traditional college-placement system.
here are genuine questions i want answers to:
Is this realistically achievable?
What should I focus on to become a competitive candidate?
How do international internships work in practice?
If you were in my position, what would you do differently from day one? What are the biggest mistakes I should avoid, and what would convince you that a student like me is genuinely on track?
If you were in my position, what would you do differently from day one? What are the biggest mistakes I should avoid?
I'm trying to figure out which technical domain to commit to. Should I explore software development, backend engineering, AI/ML, cybersecurity, or another field before narrowing down? What factors should determine that choice, and how can I avoid wasting months jumping between technologies?
I'm willing to put in serious work, accept criticism, and adjust my approach when the evidence says I'm doing something wrong. I also understand that working hard doesn't guarantee a particular outcome. I'm interested in the path that gives me the best chance, not a shortcut or a guarantee
Honest criticism is welcome. Specific experiences, practical advice, and even examples of why this plan might fail would be especially helpful.
Thank you.

What tier of US universities is it comparable to?

I'm a junior at a top 5 school in Canada, currently applying for both Canada and USA 2027 internships. I have 3 previous internships, 2 local and 1 f500 fintech whose name everybody knows 100%. I've been having trouble hearing back from any big tech(Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Stripe, etc.) for both Canadian and American postings. I don't even get OAs, which is frustrating because a lot of people I know are getting them, although I know I have far more internship/more prestigious experience on my resume. I do things like use Jake's resume, use AI to write my resume in xyz format, network when I can, but nothing has really worked so far. What more can I do?

Hi everyone,
I recently got invited to a 45 min interview at IBM for a new grad backend role. Has anyone already done a live interview with IBM this year that can share any insights on what the process is like? What kind of questions, how many total rounds, etc...
I am seeing that the length of the interview can show what type of interview it will be. Is this true?

Hi everyone, I need genuine guidance and advice. I have 4 internships on my resume including 1 at Microsoft. My resume is properly formatted using the Jake’s resume template. I use xyz bullet method but I can’t get a single OA apart from those which are automated. At this point I don’t even know what I am doing wrong and just feel like as if I’m blacklisted or something.
Any help will be appreciated

After finishing an hour and a half-long interview with a not-well-known but mid-size company, I was offered the chance to move on to the next step, which would take... 5 hours.
That's almost an all-day thing. I did an interview with a FAANG-level company last year that took about 4 hours, meeting with different people, and I didn't even get the offer despite performing alright (I got all the technicals right and got positive feedback during the behavioral). I get that they're trying to thoroughly vet candidates before making a decision, but Jesus Christ, this is frustrating.
I've gotta set aside half a day on a weekday, when I'm taking classes (I don't have a 5-hour block during working hours, so I have to skip classes for this), for a CHANCE at an internship? At the very least, couldn't they have split it up?
I'm just complaining and I know I will have to do what they ask, but I can't wait for this internship search to be over, if I get an offer.
