Question Notre Same STEAM program
Does anyone go to Notre Dame in Burlington and taking the STEAM program? What are you thoughts on the program vs the normal stream? How is the highschool?

TL:DR not really my choice, went from getting 50-60 kids pre-pandemic to 11 last year, just not worth it anymore.
I live on a quiet street but in a neighbourhood with a million kids, my street itself is even close to 50% families with elementary school aged kids. But with this new culture of everyone loading up into cars and driving to other parts of the city, we've been getting fewer and fewer kids every year since the pandemic and I just don't see the point anymore.
Pre-2020 we'd usually get around 50-60 kids and I loved hanging out on my porch seeing all the kids, talking to neighbours and all that. Good weather, bad weather, it was always in that range. Last year we got 11 total kids between 6pm and 8:30pm including the immediate neighbours. It's just not worth the effort at this point and it's a waste of time and money.
I keep seeing people posting on various socials about ohhh we need to keep Halloween going, we need to all do our part to keep our neighbourhoods decorated and alive for trick or treating, but who cares if every house on the street is decorated and ready if every single family is getting in their car to drive to a better neighbourhood?
Side note, even this past weekend, a full 2 weeks until Halloween, most stores I saw had completely or almost completely flipped to Christmas decorations and supplies.
That's my little rant but I'm curious if it's the same in other parts of the city.

Good news! Due to the 5000 unsent Voter Letters, the whole city now has expanded voting access until the 25th.
r/BurlingtonON • u/thefrankdomenic • 1d ago
Heads up, 5000 Voter Letters were not sent by the city to Ward 6 residents. If you haven't received your letter, you can still vote in advanced polls today (20th) or on E-Day (26th) as long as you have any piece of ID or mail that shows your name and address.
If you require assistance you can reach out to the city directly: 905-335-7777, ext. 8683 (VOTE).

Hello!
I am looking to transfer my Movati membership to anyone who is interested! Below is a photo of the details. I will cover the transfer fee as I believe there is a cost for doing so. I am located in Burlington.

Bought small bungalow in Brant Hills together with my brother last year. Roof's still got these old concrete tiles (I hate them), some cracked, and also there's a nasty leak near the chimney.... Its 1800 sq ft (at least on paper, haha)
Thinking of switching to metal before winter gets it all worse. Main concerns are snow buildup, proper insulation and not getting screwed on labour costs. Looks aren't a big deal - don't care. tbh
Anyone done that type of replacement? What'd it cost? Pitfalls? Pros and cons? Thank you!

Anyone else getting better cell reception in the area between Mainway and North Service road between Appleby and Walkers? Had cruddy reception in both Bell and Freedom Mobile here and all of a sudden I am getting 2 bars of 5g and 50mbps down where I was lucky to get even 2 down on 1 bar of LTE.

Hi Burlington!
For years, the two questions that drove us up the wall have been: āwhere we grabbing dinnerā and āIām boredā. Solving either of those was always an ordeal of figuring out what to do and where to go, all while not breaking the bank. So back in March, we decided to do something about it and started building the thing we wished existed: a one-stop shop for all things Burlington. It's called:
The Burly (theburly.ca).Ā
It's a free daily email (a quick 5-minute read) and a website. Thereās even a daily comic, because we miss the Funny Pages⦠IYKYKā¦Ā
- The Burly Basket⦠Every week we take a basket of everyday staples (milk, eggs, bread, chicken, the usual) and compare it across this week's grocery flyers from Burlington stores. Then we tell you which store has the most of those items at the lowest price. Thereās also a toggle we threw in to support Canadian stores**!**
- The Burly Bite⦠Tonight's best-value dinner at an independent spot. Weāve intentionally left out large chains. It ranks by what one person's dinner really costs, not the sticker price: 89Ā¢ wings count as an order of ten, a "for two" deal is split in half, and if you have to buy a drink to get the deal, the drink counts. You can browse every deal by night, by meals or drinks, and by neighbourhood. Right now that's 39 independent restaurants and pubs and about 230 deals. Nobody pays to be in it, and nobody can.
- The Burly Buzz⦠because we all know Burlington loves to talk. This is the stuff that's getting passed around that isn't exactly news.
- Events⦠A daily calendar so you can see what's on today, tomorrow and this weekend at a glance. Everything from library programs, city rec stuff, local markets, kids' events, and even the trivia, live music, and karaoke nights at local pubs that never seem to get listed anywhere. You can filter by categories (Family, Sports, Getting Outside and more) to find what you're actually looking for.
- Local News⦠Short stories about what's going on around Burlington, from local business openings and road closures to city council meeting summaries. There's a "Good News Only" switch for days when you need a break from the not-so-good news.
It's FREE⦠and we plan to keep it that way. Sign up at theburly.ca⦠a subscriber count is the one thing that helps us get taken seriously by local businesses and the City, so every sign-up matters. If youāre on insta, you can follow us at theburly⦠We know there are gaps, so if your favourite restaurant or event is missing, please let us know and we'll add it. We really want to hear what's annoying, what's missing, and what would make you open it daily. We'll be in the comments, be kindā¦šš¼

After graphical and sound glitches, SD cards changing hands, and audio files being ripped and cut appropriately, the Millcroft Greenspace Alliance has finally been able to post the entire Ward 6 debate in full. Sorry if there's any audio issues, the audio file is from my dad's iPhone from the back of the hall. āā

I keep reading about the incredible fight Burlingtonās current city council is putting up against all these massive high-rise developments right downtown, along the waterfront. And apparently, the city keeps losing these battles, while downtown is slowly turning into Mississauga.
At the same time, I donāt see the same thing happening in Oakville, even though it also has a waterfront and a downtown that must be very attractive to developers. Their downtown has lovely little buildings, a beautiful walkable area, lots of shops, and other nice places. And even outside downtown, the areas with apartment buildings look well planned, and the buildings arenāt ridiculously tall.
So clearly, it is possible to protect your city from overdevelopment, right? Why isnāt Burlington able to do the same?
