Started exploring Bangkok seriously this weekend and the first stop was Wat Paknam..

Even though it was a Sunday, it wasn’t as crowded as other temples in Bangkok. Loved sitting in the small garden within the temple premises. Overall quite peaceful and recommended if you want a slightly relaxed and peaceful experience compared to the main temples…

For context, the owner of the post is Chinese, the Karen is a foreigner, the Airbnb defender is also a foreigner, Karen's friend in the last comment is also a foreigner. There's mostly foreigners living in this building.

Those Airbnb's are mostly own by Thai and Chinese people.

What do Thais think about this?

tourism DO NOT Go to Badshah Club in Nana NSFW

Post image
14 Upvotes

An uncomfortable topic everyone needs to learn about in order to prevent it. Long story short, my close friend went a year or so ago with her friends to “Badshah Club” in Nana, the staff there spiked their drinks, she went to the bathroom alone and was sexually assaulted by a man wearing a suit. A janitor woman came in at last but it was too late. This is not something to take lightly, as my educated guess is that she isn’t the first nor is she the last. Spread the word and bring justice, although the culprit might be gone, I can no longer let the memory enter my head knowing I haven’t atleast informed others other than close ones.
Tldr: Friend went to club, drink spiked by bartender, SA’d in the bathroom.

question Who knows places in BKK that can jailbreak my Switch 1 OLED

• Upvotes

I am in BKK and brought my Switch 1 OLED version.

Want to run homebrew software on it. It can be done by some soldering work.

Does anyone had it done here already or does know a shop that can do it?

shopping Recommendations for men’s clothing shopping: smart casuals, linen shirts and beachwear

Hi everyone!

I’m looking for recommendations for good places to shop for men’s clothing, preferably in Bangkok.

I’m looking for clothes that are smart casual rather than too casual, well-fitted shirts, trousers, chinos, and some good outfits for a beach holiday.

Specifically, I’m interested in:
Good-quality shirts and pants that can be worn for dinners, outings, and casual evenings.
Linen shirts, linen trousers, and other breathable summer clothing.
Stylish beachwear that looks put-together rather than just basic T-shirts and shorts.
Brands or stores that offer good quality and fit without being exorbitantly priced.
I’m open to both brands and lesser-known stores, including local shops if they offer good value for money.

Would appreciate recommendations on specific brands, stores, or shopping areas. Also, are there any brands that offer good linen clothing without charging a premium just for the label?
Thanks!

accommodation Thoughts on Huai Khwang?

Hi guys,

I'll be moving to BKK right at the start of the new year. I'm exploring condo options. My office is in Lumphini (blue MRT line) but condos are bit expensive around that area due to the central location.

I'm exploring alternative areas of the city along the blue line including Huai Khwang, Ratchadapisek, and also Ladphrao (which is quite far I know).

How is Huai Khwang? Im also vegeterian so does the local food market have many vegeterian (jay or mangsawirat) options?

Thanks in advance!

healthcare Invisalign recommendation in Bangkok? (For non resident)

Hey there I’ve heard some great things about the dental care in Bangkok and I’m thinking to get myself Invisalign there.

Any personal recommendations?

I will be travelling in and out of Bangkok (don’t live in Thailand, but 2 hours flight away) so a clinic that knows how to work with such situations will be very recommended! Not sure if it’s too much hassle, but I fly around the world and don’t live anywhere long enough to be fair…

sport & fitness Looking for personal trainer / gym recommendations around Rama 3, Silom or Sathorn!

Hey! I am a bangkok born who speaks very little Thai! I’ve recently moved back to Bangkok after 7 years in the UK and am trying to get into a better routine and focus on myself a bit.

I’ve lost quite a bit of weight already (90 to 60kg) although not in the healthiest way which affected my health alot, however I now want to lose another 5 kgs or so as well as focus on building muscle, especially my glutes and legs, and getting more toned overall.

I’m looking for an english speaking enthusiastic, friendly trainer who’ll motivate me, keep me accountable and actually make training enjoyable. I’m also quite anxious in crowded gyms, and having 0 gym equipment knowledge so a quieter gym with plenty of equipment is a big priority.

I’d love recommendations for good trainers or gyms around these areas. Also happy to meet an experienced gym-goer who wouldn’t mind helping a beginner and having a gym buddy and maybe even becoming friends!

I’m still finding my feet back in Bangkok, and getting into fitness is something I really want to do for both my physical and mental health. Any recommendations or DMs would be appreciated.

Thanks :)

shopping Looking for modern haori in Bangkok

Does anyone have any suggestions for clothing shops that sell haori-style Japanese jackets (something along the lines of this) in Bangkok? They're usually dyed with indigo but I've also seen other colors. In previous years I've bought similar stuff at Dezemberism in Terminal 21 (now looks to have relocated to Chatuchak) and at random stalls in Chatuchak and Train Night Market Srinagarindra. Just hoping to find an area to focus my search.

question Since when has the DLT (Bang Chak) been booking only?

Went to renew my license they’re like, you have to book the online queue… of course the wait time is like 3 months, my license is already expired.

I tried asking the lady when did this come into effect? There was no mention on the website or anything when I was doing the online learning and document checking on their website.

Wasted my money and energy on this and now can’t drive for 3 months.

question What are your go-to healthy meals in Bangkok (and at 7-Eleven)?

Hi all, I'm living in Bangkok for a while and trying to eat reasonably healthy without cooking every day. I've read the older threads (Getfresh, clean-food delivery, khao man gai, boiled eggs from 7-Eleven). What's working for you right now? Specifically: 1) healthy places/delivery that are good value (under ~150 THB), 2) street food you trust when you want lower oil, 3) the best picks at 7-Eleven. Places that have closed or got worse are useful to know too. Thanks!

discussion 19M from England, living in Bangkok — how do you meet people and make friends here?

I've been living in Bangkok for nearly four months now. I'm 19, originally from England, and I'm looking to build a social circle here.

Back home, I had a great group of friends, but since moving here, I've found it difficult to meet people and make friends outside of everyday life. I'm happy to approach people and start conversations, but I'm struggling to find the right places to go or groups to join where people my age hang out.

Does anyone have any recommendations for social groups, sports clubs, hobby groups, regular meetups, or places where it's easy to meet people around my age?

I'm open to trying new things, whether that's fitness, football, social events, exploring Bangkok, or anything else where I can meet like-minded people.

I'd appreciate any suggestions or advice from people who've been in a similar situation.

discussion Vets

Looking for recommendations for a vet in the Phrom Phong area.

We have a small dog who came with us from the UK. He had a small fatty lump on his chest, which is a recurrence of something he had before in the UK a few years ago.

In the UK, the local vet charged around £250 to remove it, in and out the same day.

The local vet here wants to charge 40,000 baht, including an overnight stay and continuous monitoring overnight. An initial biopsy was 1,500 baht which we felt was quite reasonable, but 40,000 for the removal of the lump seems crazy.

Does anyone have any recommendations for good vets around the Soi 24 area?

healthcare Lexapro (Escitalopram) in Thailand

Hi everyone,

I’ve been planning a trip to Thailand and Japan for about a year, and a couple of months ago I started taking Lexapro for anxiety.

From what I’ve read, Thailand only lets you bring in up to a 30-day supply. After Thailand I’m going to Japan for a bit over a month (Japan has a form that lets you bring more in), so I’ll need to get more while I’m in Thailand.

My plan is 20 days in Bangkok and 40 in Japan.

A few questions for anyone who’s done this or knows about Lexapro in Thailand:

  1. Is it easy to get Lexapro at a pharmacy in Bangkok, or do you need a doctor?
  2. Is the Danish brand (Lundbeck) available in Bangkok? I’d rather not switch to the Indian generic.
  3. Roughly how much does it cost, including a doctor visit?

Thanks in advance!
