Making "Cassie" in 2026

How HARD is it to make Cassie level robot in 2026,i dont plan on matching the size of it. Just the performance of it alone is enough. I want to make it as cheap as possible just keeping it's bipedal part. I have provided the specs of it below. Any ideas or tips beforehand or a rough estimate of anything is appreciated. It costs 300k $ and the specs are:

Height: Approximately 1.0 m

Weight: Approximately 31 kg

Degrees of Freedom: 20 (floating-base model)

Actuated Joints: 10 (5 per leg)

Maximum Recorded Average Speed: 4.04 m/s (100 m sprint record)

Average Speed: Approximately 2.15 m/s (400 m running demonstration)

Peak Speed: Approximately 3.54 m/s (400 m running demonstration)

Battery Runtime: Approximately 4 hours

Robotics companies to work for/

I'm currently looking for robotics companies to advance my career in. In my last post, I was given advice on how to get a company or recruiter to notice me, I was given helpful advice. Now I am looking through robotics companies and I don't know which to stalk on linkedin or try to show off to. I was wondering if anybody has recommendations or experience from known companies? Preferably active on Linkedin and not 100% soulless lol

Mechatronics grad with ROS/Gazebo and humanoid control experience: best path to go deeper in [your gap]? Resources worth the time, and what to skip

I'm a mechatronics graduate. For my graduation project I led control systems on a 20+ DOF humanoid (ROS, Gazebo, RViz, C++). I want to go deeper in [pick one: real-hardware control / embedded / navigation and SLAM / manipulation / reinforcement learning].

What's the best learning path from where I am?

Which resources are worth the time (books, courses, open projects), and which would you skip?

What project would you build to prove the skill?

What gaps do people from my background usually have?

Thanks, and "read this one paper first" is a welcome answer.

General/Beginner Hello!!! What parts/Sensor models do i need?

Hi, im trying to make a mini robot for fun to be placed anywhere and im wondering which parts are best to buy and if you have a specific model for the features i have in mind which are:

- Camera for cctv feature (i can access it anywhere and connect through its camera as long as i have wifi)

- Microphone or Voice recognition module (i want to be able to talk to it and for example im having a call from somewhere to my robot, it must be able to recognize the voice cleanly)

Im a college student so the budget is kinda low, but im open to suggestions!! ^^

How to? How to grow in Robotics Systems Engineering area

Hi all,

I'm a fresh graduate in Robotics and AI.

What I know about myself is that I hate LeetCode programming and looking into a massive codebase. And I love working at System Level rather than going deep into one area.

That's why I find Robotics Systems Engineering is the best choice for me. But this role needs a couple of years of hands-on experience (Engineering scars) to get credibility before filling this role (Robotics Systems Engineer).

From your experience, what kind of roles I can do as a Junior that qualifies me to be a Systems Engineer in 5 years?

Best

Education/Career Robotics & AI Student Looking for Robotics/ROS2 Internship or Entry-Level Opportunity

Hi everyone!

I'm a B.Tech student in Robotics & Artificial Intelligence and I'm currently looking for a robotics internship or entry-level opportunity where I can work on real-world robotics systems.

My main areas of interest and experience are:

ROS 2

Gazebo / simulation

RViz2

Nav2

Mobile robot navigation

Robot simulation and control

PID control & tuning

Autonomous navigation

Lidar-based obstacle avoidance

Basic SLAM / localization concepts

Python & C/C++

Robotics & AI/ML

I've worked on projects involving PID-based mobile robot control, obstacle avoidance and ROS/Gazebo simulation, and I'm also gaining practical experience through a drone/flight-controller internship, where I've been exposed to IMUs, motor control, PID, sensor fusion and related robotics concepts.

I'm particularly interested in opportunities involving:

ROS/ROS2 • Autonomous Mobile Robots • Navigation • Simulation • AMRs/AGVs • Drones • Robotics Software • Controls • Perception

I'm open to internships, trainee roles, or suitable entry-level positions, preferably in India, but I'm also open to remote opportunities if the work is genuinely hands-on.

I'm mainly looking for a place where I can learn from experienced engineers and contribute to real robotics projects, rather than just doing theoretical work.

If you know of any companies, startups, research labs, internships, or openings that might be a good fit, I'd really appreciate it.

I can share my resume/GitHub/LinkedIn in DM.

Thanks!

Mechanical Trying to press a computer button with a servo

Hey all!

I have a computer at home that I need to be able to remotely turn on and off, and I thought that the best way to do that would be with a small arm connected to a servo connected to an ESP32.

So I've got all that working but the servo (MG90S) isn't able to press the button at all, the arm seems to be sliding off of it.

I can't share videos here but I recorded it to examine.

Do you think it's because the servo is too weak? I'm trying to figure it out and I've kinda got confused xD

General/Beginner Which items for creating a hand controlled, double screen display

Hey all! I'm currently working on a project to create a hand controlled, double screen display and need help with the specific items I need for this.

More info about the project: I plan for both of my hands to have three pressure sensors on the pads of my fingers (thumb will not have one) that are coded with specific images, which the pressure outputs are sent to a board. And said outputs are only sent if the pressure reaches a certain threshold. The board then takes that input and with wifi, sends it to one of the two display boards. Both display boards are connected with a wire so the input corresponding image is displayed on their respective screens simultaneously. I probably didn't explain it well but hopefully the next section makes is more clear.

Items I have on my list so far: (These are all from AdaFruit) For the pressure sensors, I'll be using the round force-sensitive-resistor (0.3~10 force newton). The wifi transmitter board will be the QT Py ESP32-S3 WiFi dev board with STEMMA QT. The wifi receivers will be the Qualia ESP32-S3 and will be connected with a QT to QT cable. Both boards will be connected to their own screens, the round RGB TTL TFT display, 4" 720x720. All coded with CurcuitPython and ESP-NOW.

The trouble: I'm pretty sure the qualia and screen set up works (based on AdaFruit's double qualia display tutorial) and the QT wifi connected with ESP-NOW to one of the qualias also seems like it would work. Let me know if otherwise. The main thing I'm having trouble with is the multiple round pressure sensors connecting to the QT. I know that the pressure sensors are analog and can't communicate with the QT through a cable alone (from what I've read of the tutorial and info pages). I'm guessing that I have to use a QT to male/ 2 pin female cable plus whatever else to actually make the pressure outputs readable to the QT. I've heard of a 10komega resistor but I still have to look more into that. If this isn't possible then any pressure sensor buttons that would work with the QT would be helpful. I also can't do any soldering 😬, so non-soldered connections are a must.

Any help about any of this would be extremely appreciated!

Recommendation request for 0.5-1.5 meter / 18 - 60”articulated arm that can be used with python

I’m looking for an arm that I can use to hold a lightweight probe (no physical contact, not very heavy) and move it around in some volume with some angle control. I plan to mount the probe, so no need for an end effector that can hold things, but a gimbal wrist would be nice.
This is for a personal project, so cost does matter ($200 target) but up to $1k could be considered if the capabilities are good.
Thank you for your time!

Mechanical Building a ROS 2 robot with my kids

I’m an embedded software engineer, but I’m new to robotics and ROS 2. I’d like to build a mobile robot with my kids that we can work on together and gradually make more capable.

I’ve been looking at LINOROBOT2 and like the idea of building something from individual components rather than buying a complete robot. I’m hoping to learn about the hardware and software along the way, starting with a basic rover and eventually experimenting with autonomous navigation and a robotic arm.

My current thinking is to use an ESP32-S3 for the low-level hardware and have a separate Linux PC handle the ROS 2 side of things, at least initially. That way, I can avoid putting a full computer on the robot until I have a better idea of what I actually need.

Some of the components I’ve been looking at include Pololu 37D gear motors with encoders and an RPLIDAR A1, but I haven’t settled on the hardware yet. I’m still figuring out the chassis, motor drivers, power system, and how all the pieces should fit together.

A few questions for people who have built similar robots:

  1. Is LINOROBOT2 a reasonable starting point for this kind of project?
  2. Do Pololu 37D motors seem like a reasonable choice, or are there better options I should consider?
  3. Would I be better off building a chassis from aluminum extrusion or starting with an existing chassis and modifying it?
  4. Is using a separate Linux PC a practical way to get started, with the ESP32 handling the low-level hardware?
  5. If you were starting from scratch, what would you do differently or keep simpler?

The goal is to build something sturdy and modular that we can learn from and improve over time. I’d eventually like to try mapping, autonomous navigation, and adding a small robotic arm, but I’m happy to take it one step at a time.

I’d appreciate any advice, especially from people who have built their own ROS 2 robots.

How to? How to make hatch that opens and drops a ball on a timer?

I want to place this contraption above me as I sleep, to challenge myself to catch the ball before it hits me in the face.

I dont know any thing about robotics or coding but I could attempt to learn. For the timer, I have a spare smart plug that can already be configured to a time to turn on, if that could work.

Mechanical Should i take mit ocw on top of my classes as a prep?

i am forth year student specializing in robotics autonomous design (in my country the degree is five years not four, so i still have a year to go), i have modules like power electronics and deep learning , some of mit ocw have the same titles , should i follow the playlists of mit and their work sheets or is it a waste of time and i might benefit more from studying from books.
