Discussion those trendy low priced (200-300 peso) canvas paintings are hurting us in the long run

as much as gusto natin gawing accessible ang art for all wag natin kalimutan na art is a luxury, and being an artist should be treated like a career. pano kami makikipaglaban sa market kung ang kalaban mo halos itapon na yung painting at a low price para lang mabenta

Question Looking for artists who have experienced an art residency in the Philippines

Hi, everyone! I hope this kind of post is allowed here. I’m a fifth-year Architecture student from the University of Santo Tomas, currently working on my undergraduate thesis about designing a climate-responsive art residency and exhibition center in Alfonso, Cavite.

As part of my research, I’m hoping to connect with Filipino artists who have participated in an art residency in the Philippines and would be open to sharing their experiences. I’m particularly interested in learning about your experiences with the spaces, facilities, and overall environment of the residency, and how these affected your artistic practice.

The interview would be conducted online and would only take around 20–30 minutes. Participation is completely voluntary, and your insights would be a great help to my research!

I'll leave here my Google Form link where you can sign up:

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeW7B9jntsz4lJ3Gaa6q36CK-HHVT5iqyYHA44V_GGoT1WgjA/viewform?usp=dialog

If you’ve participated in an art residency or know someone who has, I’d really appreciate it if you could leave a comment. Thank you so much!

My first post here on Reddit. This digital painting explores our fascination with "wishing upon a star," and how people quickly lose something that they obtained in an instant. Hope you guys like this artwork. More to come soon.

Other Looking for local artists who sell character sticker sheets !

I'm on a sticker obsession recently and though I'd love to, buying from some artists like the artist featured above (DOMI WORLD) is too difficult given they're always sold out. I don't feel comfortable buying dupes either, but I'm always looking for an opportunity to support local artists so! Anyone who makes that kinda stuff, plz drop ur insta handle it would be so appreciated !! Preferably around Bicol, or at least Luzon < 3

Watercolor set reco

Hello, pa recommend po sana ng decent watercolor set, yung mid grade po sana. Bumili ako sa NBS ng watercolor pero yung available is HBW. Ang chalky ng finish nya at i find the colors dull pag na lapat na sa papel.

Also, ano po yung better yung nasa tube or yung cake watercolor?

I am a beginner in watercolor pero ayaw ko ng finish ng HBW po kasi 😭

Thank you sa makapag suggest!

Question How do I sell my paintings more/reach a wider audience?

Thumbnail

Hello, so I am wondering how I can reach a wider audience to sell my art, The first and last (both work in progress) is from commissions, though it was usually they reach out to me without proper marketing. Currently, I am in need of money at the moment.

My thoughts of marketing would be to post or art groups and subreddit on Facebook or Reddit. Second would be to reach out to exhibits or galleries, though I would not know exactly what the process would be. Would I need to travel there? Pay an entrance fee? Should I just message the galleries direct?

Anywho, any advice would help! Criticisms to my art are also welcome, thank you.

Angel Academy of Art, Florence — Is It Worth It?

Prospective students should look beyond the promotional wording and photographs on the school's website and carefully investigate the actual teaching provision.

The academy has a longstanding reputation associated with Michael John Angel. However, he no longer teaches students at the school and appears to give only occasional lectures. Despite his greatly reduced teaching involvement, the academy continues to trade on his name and reputation.Ā When he was actively teaching in school, the learning experience was very different. Since his teaching involvement has significantly diminished, theĀ qualityĀ ofĀ teachingĀ hasĀ declinedĀ considerably. TheĀ currentĀ teachingĀ provisionĀ isĀ notĀ worthĀ theĀ highĀ tuitionĀ fees.

TheĀ schoolĀ wasĀ dueĀ toĀ closeĀ inĀ AugustĀ 2026Ā dueĀ toĀ insufficientĀ studentĀ enrolmentĀ toĀ sustainĀ itsĀ operations.Ā ItĀ wasĀ subsequentlyĀ soldĀ toĀ anotherĀ person. This raises legitimate questions about the school's teaching quality, financial sustainability, student enrolment and long-term stability.

There are serious concerns about the instructors' level of engagement, the overall learning environment and management professionalism.Ā These issues can make the learning experience discouraging rather than supportive.Ā Students paying these fees deserve experienced teachers who genuinely care about their teaching and take their responsibility to students seriously.Ā Ā Ā

Student retention is another concern. Prospective students should consider why lots of students choose to leave, rather than assuming that the school's past reputation, established when Michael John Angel was still the principal instructor, guarantees a good learning experience today.

Given the overpriced tuition fees, declining teaching quality and concerns about the learning environment, I would not recommend this school. Prospective students should research other classical ateliers and compare the actual teaching provision before committing their money.

My advice: look beyond the name and promotional photographs. There are other schools worth considering.Ā

Question What careers to take in the Philippines?

Hi everyone, I'm a BMMA (Multimedia Arts) graduate but have been unemployed for almost 3 months now. I've been searching for career paths to take in the Philippines and I've landed on aspiring to be a concept artist to Pixel Mafia or other game companies based in Manila.

But it's intimidating. My whole life, my portfolio was built around anime style and splash arts, as well doing art commissions since Covid pandemic. Aside from being a concept artist, what are the other career paths available for an entry-level artist?

if you're curious about my portfolio, you can view them here
