Other Second video of the fox with the weird behaivior

2.6k Upvotes

Hi guys,

I posted a first video of the fox just an hour ago on this sub, and here is the second video i tool from him.

So cute this little guy.

He still tries to get to my shoe tough 😭

EDIT: thank you guys for the all interesting messages.

Because this Video is getting way more attention than the first one i posted from me sitting in the car with fox standing right next ( https://www.reddit.com/r/zoology/s/RjIMUvZmVo ) i might also share the full story also here:

I was sitting in my car, around 10pm near the City Center of Leipzig, Germany. The car door was open, i was on my phone and i had me left leg hanging outside of the car. Suddenly, i noticed something very softly pulling on my shoe. I looked down and there was this fox standing. I was frightened as hell and tried to get him away by waving my foot against hin (but of course without hitting or touching). Then i got out of the car because i was scared that he would jump into the car (i could not close the door because that would have injured or encourage him to jump in the car). Then this video was taken. After that he ran away.

This breaks the heart. It’s sad to say, but the Vaquita seems to be doomed.

Question Weird, tame behaivior of Fox. He bit my shoe 🫪 (Leipzig, Germany)

Hi Guys,

I met this fella yesterday. It was around 10pm near the city center of Leipzig, Germany. I was sitting in my car with the door open and on foot hanging outside. While i was texting on my phone, i noticed something pulling on the end of my foot very softly. When i looked down i saw this cute little fox standing right beneath me.

I did not touched him further and tried to get hin away (by waving my foot in his direction without hitting him) but he stayed for for half a minute or so. Then he ran away.

As i read, rabies is not present in germany for wild animals, although i am still kinda concerned but i think thats not really rational.

What else could bring such a behaivior? Is this a young animal or a adult?

Thank youuuu

Question What animals would you have dismissed as being too unrealistic if they had been presented to you as fictional?

I for one wouldn’t find the idea that a 200 ton whale could possible survive on exclusively on krill. I would dismiss the idea that there couldn’t be enough krill available for them to eat.

Question Books filled with Stylized Illustrations???

One of my favorite games to play is Planet Zoo, and when it comes to signage I am one who loves to make my own completely custom displays and as such am always on the lookout for books with wildlife illustrations (photographs I can find online) of varying styles that I can pull from. I already own several books for this purpose including All the Mammals of the World, All the Birds of the World, a few others that are not as comprehensive, and All the Reptiles of the World whenever that comes out. I currently have a gap in books that cover specifically reptiles, amphibians, fish, and invertebrates, but I am also looking for varying art styles that could include all types of animals since I like the different areas of my zoos to have different signage themes. These books do not have to be comprehensive I just want them to have stylized illustrations that cover a good number of species.

Example of my Signage (Based on the Houston Zoo)

I know that this probably doesn't fit the criteria of the typical post here, (I haven't gotten much on the Planet Zoo Subreddit) but I figured that the like minded people over here may also have personal libraries like I do... Soooooooo, does anyone have any recommendations?

(Edit: Feel free to remove this post if it doesn't fit the usual postings)

Moths and light bulbs: nature’s greatest love story? Not quite. 💔💡
Turns out, for moths lamp is not life and artificial light is quite disruptive to their routine.

Question What was the tiger in Doncaster trying to do?

I won't share the video for obvious reasons but if anyone has seen it and knows about tiger behaviour, what was its mood like / was it trying to kill him, playing playfully, playing before a kill etc? And are tigers and other big cats just overgrown tabbies or are there any major differences in behaviour?

Discussion I’m curious about hyenas’ difficult births!

Hey!

I recently came across the fact that spotted hyenas have really difficult births because of their anatomy, and now I'm curious to learn more about it.

Does anyone know any good resources on this, or would anyone who's familiar with the topic be up for discussing it? I'm also curious if there are other wild animals that have similarly difficult births.

Thanks!

Question Have wild gorilla troops ever been observed venturing into the African savanna?

I know gorillas primarily inhabit the forests of Central Africa, but I’ve been curious about whether entire troops have ever ventured into open savanna habitats.

I’m particularly interested in whether gorillas have been documented traveling through grasslands outside their usual forest environments, rather than simply entering grassy forest clearings.

Have researchers ever observed this behavior? If so, how far into the savanna have gorillas traveled, and what might motivate them to leave the relative safety of the forest?

I’d be interested in any documented observations or scientific studies on the subject.

Question Those of you who use cameras for study, what features do you look for?

Now idk if this is allowed here, i asked a similar question in a photography subreddit about wildlife photography. But regardless, im a zoology student, going to be doing my dissertation research volunteering in India next summer and I think i might need to upgrade my camera for more work focus instead of recreation

What sort of things do you guys with careers in the field look for in a camera? I was looking for fast auto focus and being able to connect to devices for gps tracking and image transfer.

Thanks!

Other Slipper Lobster Larvae: these creatures are almost entirely transparent, and they have thin, flattened bodies that look like flakes of ice; they often obtain food, transportation, and/or defense by clinging to the tops of jellyfish and sinophores
