Help Am I using Zettlr the right way?
I suspect that Hendrik never envisioned a singular "right" way to use Zettlr, so perhaps my question is better phrased "is there a better strategy for my Zettlr workflow?"
I'm looking to get some feedback, primarily as a learning exercise as I try to increase my proficiency in .md, yaml, and LaTeX.
Here's some context on me:
My proficiency with coding is to the level that I can handle the syntax languages for statistical software like R, Python, or SPSS–primarily for data cleaning and visualization tasks. I also have come to prefer Markdown for text editing, which is partly what made Zettlr appealing. I would really like to NOT need to rely on Google or Microsoft or Apple as the sole keepers of my writing and publishing efforts. Zettlr was appealing primarily because of its citation engine integration with Zotero which was much more intuitive to me than other options (cough* cough* Obsidian!! cough*).
My workflow case study:
I am composing a class paper in Zettlr and I have been given very specific instructions in the syllabus for formatting. Here is the gist:
Unless otherwise specified, all written assignments (short paper; end-of-semester reflection; final paper) must be written in accordance with the APA Style Guide, 7th edition.
There are some additional reminders and clarification about running headings, margins, spacing, citations, and cover page.
The "out-of-the-box" workflows didn't do what I need so I vibe-coded an export template to produce a .pdf I can submit through the assignment portal. The LLM I used also generated a .md template to ensure that the yaml style guide is activated correctly when typesetting the export (I feel like I'm not quite using the right nomenclature).
Here is the yaml template provided by the LLM:
```
This is a new defaults file that you can use to define rules for exporting or
importing files to and from Zettlr. The only two required properties are the
writer and reader ones. Without them, Zettlr will not be able to export or
import your files. You can choose any reader or writer that is supported by
Pandoc. Zettlr will automatically show the profile at appropriate locations
based on the values of the writer and reader properties.
Here is the .md template generate by the LLM to ensure my prose are formatted correctly in the export:
So, to return to the original question. Am I doing Zettlr right? Are there more efficient/less-verbose strategies for getting to the same desired outcome. What changes or updates would you recommend?
