Music ClinkFest Procession Walk - Sat 17 Oct
Saturday 17 October is Neil "Clink" Clarkson's memorial festival. I haven't seen it mentioned much here beyond the Wakefield Express article, so here's the details of the "procession walk" which local superstar Roy Blacker has put together:
Roy writes:
I recently responded to the call for ideas for ClinkFest and put forward a proposal for a respectful procession walk through Wakefield in memory of Clink and his huge contribution to the city's music and arts scene.
The walk will start at the bottom of the precinct area below the Cathedral, opposite Iceland (near 35 Kirkgate, Wakefield WF1 1HS). We'll gather from around 11.15am and set off at 12 noon, making our way slowly up through the precinct towards the Cathedral.
If any musicians would like to, you're welcome to play as we walk. We'll stop near the Cathedral entrance at around 12.10pm for around 15 minutes. During this time, a close friend of Clink's will say a few words, and there will be an opportunity for one or two musicians, or a small group, to perform a couple of songs in his memory.
We'll then continue up to the top of Westgate and make our way down to Garden Street, arriving at around 12.45pm ahead of the start of ClinkFest at 1pm.
The idea behind the walk is to give friends, family and those who have travelled from further afield the chance to come together before the festival, share memories and honour Clink's legacy as a community. We know this has been an emotional time for many, and some people may appreciate arriving at the festival as part of a group rather than on their own.
I'll be co-ordinating the procession on the day. If you'd like to play an instrument, perform at the Cathedral stop, or say a few words about Clink, please let me know in advance so I can include you in the arrangements.
Thanks for taking the time to read this, and I hope you'll be able to join us.
There's more about the festival including Saturday's lineups at Garden St and Rosie O'Leary's, at https://clinkfest.uk/whats-on - hope to see some of you there.
