Would anyone like to take over as Moderator of /r/vitamix

Hi Everyone,

Many years ago (2011, I think), someone created the r/vitamix subreddit and then decided that they didn't want to be a mod. So, another user and I took over the role. Over the years, she and I moderated with quite a light touch and in 2017, we invited a couple of other users to be JR mods.

I just checked the mod list and I am now the only active moderator. I also don't have a lot of time to give this subreddit much attention, so I figured that handing the mod role off to others would be the appropriate thing to do.

My thinking is that the community is large enough that we should probably add a few mods.

Let me know your thoughts!

Brand new Vitamix A2500i won't start

• Upvotes

I recently bought a new Vitamix A2500i, but unfortunately, it won't start. I have made sure that the lid is properly secured and I also have switched the on/off button on right side. On the displays it says ''0.00'' like it have been recognized, but nothing is happening when i'm turning the dial or press the pulse or start/stop button on front.

Nano vs personal cup adapter?

We’ve got a classic 5300 blender right now but would like smaller cups to make smoothies in the morning. The Nano is only $50 more than a personal cup adapter. Which is the better buy here? Any experience appreciated!

Buying WARNING: When buying knockoff blades and spindles on Amazon, parts can be warped

Warning to those who buy third party non-oem replacement parts for their Vitamix.

While they are dramatically cheaper, some parts will come warped, in my kit I bought on Amazon it came with one wet blade and a new spindle.... The new spindle was bent out of the box and looked like this when it spun on my blender. Also the spindle was far too tight, I couldn't even get the blade and container to fit into it all the way without it getting stuck. I have returned those parts.

Has anyone tried a Blend Blaster 9-in-1 basket in their Vitamix? If yes, what did you think?

Favorite smoothie recipe book?

This post will probably get pulled, but looking for a recipe book for making smoothies that are:

#1. Healthy, so not TOO much sugar content (no added agave syrup, no honey, etc.. Some juice is OK)
#2. Not full of ingredients that are hard to find and have a short shelf life.
#3. Have no more than 10 or so ingredients, and nothing TOO weird 😉

Hardware Question It's not supposed to do this right?

I replaced my blade and spindle with ones off of Amazon and it now vibrates like hell. Does anyone have this problem?

15/10/26 - UPDATE: it was the spindle causing the shaking. It was warped out of the box and the blade didn't sit in it correctly. warped spindle post

Burnt my dry blade!

Edit: I agree with the comments that this is carbon or staining!

I was making bread crumbs and smelled something burnt. I’m sure I can still use it, but was not expecting to burn a blade! This is a very old dry container I got directly from Vitamix. Anyone else have this happen?

So disappointed! LOUD!

I knew it was going to be loud, but very surprised by how loud. I think I will have to return it. My husband and dogs can't stand it either. I am not forking over another $200 for an acrylic cover. I have it on a folded towel, but very little reduction in sound. Anyone have any otger suggestions? It is a Propel 510.

Buying Blending Cup and Bowl Starter Kit (Self-Detect) Review

Post image
29 Upvotes

Recently inquired about this because I was annoyed having to spend $150 for a cup and bowl but figured I'd just take the plunge.

Pros: Works and makes a smooth smoothie. Dishwasher safe.
Cons: Over-engineered. Expensive. Loud. Unergonomic. Only one cup capacity (20oz) . Cup has no measurements which is just silly. The seal is a bit annoying because it requires cleaning, moves around and can be hard to get back on the bottom groove properly

Off the bat there are no instructions and I could not figure out how to use it. Maybe I am dumb, but it was not as intuitive as a ninja. But basically you need to align this little lock symbol on the cup/bowl with a barely visible line on the blade attachment base you screw on. Then you place that on the base adapter thing by aligning the grooves on the side of the cup/bowl to the base. Instructions are on the website and also on youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-Sna0_kXtI

As someone else pointed out, it is not ergonomic. God help you if you are weak or have any physical issues with your hands/grip strength.

Otherwise it performs very well and made an smooth milkshake like smoothie. It recognized the cup and adjusted the smoothie program accordingly. Easily the best personal sized smoothie I've had compared to other blenders. I forgot that personal cups tend to introduce a little less air which is nice.

Light comes on. No matter which program or speed I choose, nothing but a click when I press start. Anyone else have this? I'm returning to Amazon.

Had an... interesting warranty saga

After 5 years, the bearings in my container seized up, but even though the warranty expired 6 months ago they still honored it!

Unfortunately the first replacement they sent was leaking, so I had to call them again. Well I guess this time they didn't want to take any chances so they sent me 11 of them....

Time to get back on the phone lol

Ascent vs separate food processor

I have a Vitamix 5200 that works great, but I want a food processor to chop veggies and make nut butter.

Should I buy the Vitamix Ascent X2 Smart Prep, which has a food processor attachment and is currently on sale for $550 or buy a separate food processor? Thinking of the Breville 16 cup Sous Chef which is $500.

Model Questions

I have a 5200 that appears to be dying on me, it struggles with dense blends now but I have had it for nearly 14 years so I’m not mad at it.

Here are my questions:

Propel 750:

It doesn’t have a “high” speed switch like the 5200, is it just as powerful as the 5200?

Is there a cord wrap area on the bottom?

I just received the Ascent X2 in the mail and I’m feeling a little disappointed and not certain I will keep it.

-I don’t like the plastic lid on the container, why can’t it be the blacker soft lid?

-There is no where to wrap the cord under the base of the unit.

-I choose it for the self detect smoothie cup and those are too small it turns out and not the easiest to use.

Now I’m starting from scratch. I do like the idea of some blending programs, smoothie, soup and frozen dessert and I would like a pulse switch.

5200

Does it ever come in some other colours, maybe limited addition? I find the white the nicest and it’s the current colour I have but it has yellowed over time, I find the other colours kind of ugly.

What would you recommend?

Need a replacement pitcher for Vitamix 5200

Is it best to get the official Vitamix one for 180$ or are the cheaper alternatives still good for just the pitcher?

Hardware Question How to clean plastic container below the blade?

It looks like something is stuck below the blade inside the plastic, any ideas on how to clean this? I use it primarily for smoothies and usually blend soap and water to clean it. Thank you!

New to Vitamix - 5200, 750 or VX1?

Post image
9 Upvotes

I'm trying to decide between the 5200 (not a fan of the high/variable switch though), Propel 750 (I would buy the taller 64 ounce jar and use both), or VX1 (appealing because I read it's quieter and no high/variable switch but not sure how quality compares). I keep changing my mind and not sure which to get. All are on sale with the 750 having the most amount off of the regular price.

My main uses would be smoothies (for between 1-4 people at a time), blending tomatoes for sauce, and soup. I'm coming from a KitchenAid Diamond 5 speed, which is fine but doesn't blend smoothies that well.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Replacement carafe for old 5200

My husband said getting anything other than a vitamix branded 5200 replacement carafe is a bad idea, specifically that Alton brown said that and that's why. Are the off brands on Amazon that say they work for 5200 bases that much worse? Does anyone have experience with any of the off brands or know where you can buy cheaper used carafes? I'm not able to spend $200 on a new one, but I've really missed the smoothies and soups.

New Vitamix flimsier than old one?

I just bought a new 5200 on Amazon to replace my 2014 CIA version that doesn't have a speed control knob. After opening it, I feel like it's a lot flimsier than my old one. The plastic feels less sturdy and there is definitely a difference in weight - 7.2 lbs vs 8.6 lbs (base only) for the old one.

Could this new one still be expected to last a decade or two? Has Vitamix been enshittified and are they pricing based on the reputation of their old blenders. Are any of the other, newer, designs still built like a tank?

I was excited to have a speed control, but I'm feeling pretty bummed about this purchase. Thinking of keeping the old one and returning this one.

Has anyone had a similar experience going from an old Vitamix to a newer one?
