Hi everyone,
This community is for people who care about making India work better in everyday ways.
This is a space to talk about real issues, small wins, and honest questions around public life in India. Things that affect daily living, not just headlines.
What belongs here
You can post about:
If it affects people on the ground, it probably fits.
What this is not
This is not a place for:
Criticism is welcome. Noise is not.
A small note on flairs
Use the flair that best fits your post. If you're unsure, Discussion is usually a safe choice.
If you've been reading quietly so far, consider posting once. A single issue, question, or observation is enough to start.
Glad you're here. Let's keep this space thoughtful, grounded, and useful.

According to a NITI Aayog report, around 94,000 government schools were closed or merged across India between 2014โ15 and 2024โ25 under the BJP-led central government, with the total number of government schools falling from roughly 11.07 lakh to 10.13โ10.17 lakh due to school rationalization and mergers.
Total government schools dropped from 11.07 lakh to 10.13 lakh over the decade. During the same period, overall student enrollment in government schools declined by about 2.26 crore
According to the NITI Aayog report using UDISE+ 2024โ25 data, 1,04,125 schools in India operate with only one teacher. This can mean one teacher has to handle several classes, leaving less time for individual attention.
When a local school is merged with another, some children may have to travel farther or depend on transport. This can be especially difficult for younger children and families with limited resources. The actual impact depends on the distance, transport arrangements and local circumstances.
and many more you can google it

These days people call themselves patriots, but theyโre not really patriots, they just support their bIow job party.

Divide & Rule: Politicians divide us by caste, religion, and party lines so we fight each other, while they sit back and protect their own elite interests.
Zero Accountability: Corrupt leaders simply switch parties (like moving from Congress to BJP) to wash away their crimes and continue looting without consequence.
Blatant Hypocrisy: They use public money to fly to the US for healthcare, send their kids to Harvard, and drive heavy SUVs. Meanwhile, taxpayers ruin their cars on potholed roads and suffer in broken public hospitals and roofless government schools.
Fear of the Public: Their massive 30-car security convoys aren't to protect them from foreign threats they are hiding from the very citizens they have betrayed and oppressed.
What Needs to Change
Ban Party Switching: Politicians must not be allowed to change sides to escape accountability.
Zero Tolerance for Crimes: Anyone with a cognizable FIR cannot be allowed to contest elections.
End VIP Culture: Abolish massive security convoys and special privileges.
Mandatory Public Services: Politicians and their families must be forced to use only public healthcare and government schools. Only then will they fix them.

Opinion
I was recently waiting in a pre/post-operative recovery area of a premium hospital, where patients are monitored before or after surgery.
A family had just welcomed a newborn, and everyone was understandably excited. Relatives were being called on video calls, a toddler was excited about the new sibling, and people were talking loudly with phones on speaker.
The problem was that this was a recovery area where patients who had undergone surgery were coming out of anesthesia and dealing with pain. Some were trying to rest and recover, yet there was little consideration for them.
I politely asked the family to keep their voices down. When nothing changed, I even asked the nurse to intervene. Yet, their behaviour barely changed.
The family could easily have waited another 10โ15 minutes, as they were about to be moved to a private room where they could celebrate and make calls without disturbing others. A little patience and consideration would have made all the difference.
What struck me was that this was a premium hospital. It reminded me that civic sense has little to do with education or wealth. You can have degrees, money and a prestigious job but still lack basic consideration for people around you.
We see this everywhere:
Playing videos or making calls on speaker in trains, buses and waiting rooms.
Watching reels without earphones in public.
Speaking loudly in places where people are resting or working.
Littering, cutting queues and treating public spaces as extensions of our homes.
During my time abroad, keeping phones on silent or vibration and being mindful of noise seemed like unwritten social rules. It was a culture shock initially, but in a good way. You realise how much more pleasant public spaces become when people are considerate.
My spouse was only going in for a minor procedure, so personally, the noise wasn't a major issue for me. But watching patients recovering from surgery and coming out of anesthesia in pain made me feel that this was worth speaking about.
We often demand better infrastructure, cleaner streets and better public facilities. All of that matters, but world-class infrastructure means little if we don't know how to behave in shared spaces.
Perhaps the change starts at home. Let's remind our parents and relatives to avoid speakerphone in public, use earphones for audio, respect queues and keep shared spaces clean. Let's teach our children these habits through our own behaviour, not just lectures.
We don't have to change the entire country overnight. But we can influence our own families and circles.
Civic sense isn't about social status. It's about understanding that other people exist and deserve consideration, even when we don't know them.
I just wanted to put this experience out here because I believe a better civic culture starts with small changes in our own homes and the habits we pass on to the next generation.

Hey everyone,
Itโs interesting to see how modern Indian tech startups are applying AI to traditional domains like Vedic (Jyotish) astrology. I recently tested Astroma, an AI platform trained specifically on Vedic calculation principles.
You enter your birth details, and instead of generic predictions, the AI breaks down exact chart placements, Dasha phases, and transits in plain English. What stood out to me was how clean and interactive the interface wasโallowing you to ask specific follow-up questions about work or timing rather than reading static horoscopes.
Itโs a great example of blending ancient Indian knowledge systems with modern AI. They offer 50 free coins when you sign up if you want to test how the AI analyzes your chart.

On 15th Oct 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched five flagship development projects valued at approximately โน3350 crore in Ladakh. It involves development of roadways, power and water supply systems, a drive to encourage tourism and safeguard of the area's cultural history.
One of the five projects is the new terminal building at Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport in Leh. The new terminal building of Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport in Leh will help in improving the annual passenger handling capacity from 10 lakh to 35 lakh. The new terminal is expected to make air travel more accessible and convenient for both tourists and locals. It will also help the territory to use heat from the ground and solar power to reduce energy use in a region with freezing winters.
Another significant project is the Nimmu-Padum-Darcha road that is set to reduce the travel time by up to 75%, from approximately 12 hours to only 3 hours. It will facilitate to reach hospitals, schools and markets in the region and will stimulate tourism and trade in the region. The road is also a strategic route as it passes through sensitive border areas of Ladakh, which shares borders with two neighbouring countries. Therefore, securing road connectivity is essential for the nation's security.
In addition, two other projects focus primarily on electricity and water supply. PM Modi inaugurated the Hanu hydroelectric project and its associated power transmission lines for the nation. The region's economic progress and the quality of life of its people, particularly in the distant villages, depend on a dependable power supply. Also, in Project Amrit Him Sarovar, 40 new water storage ponds have been built to store water for irrigation and other purposes. This facility is especially important in Ladakh, given the harsh climate and limited water availability.
Furthermore, this event also saw improvements to the region's overall infrastructure. This includes the length of the road network, which has grown from 1800 to over 4000 km, as well as the number of major bridges, which has increased from 19 to nearly 75, while the number of helipads has increased from 7 to over 40. Additionally, the population with access to drinking water increased from 3.5% to nearly 99%. Lastly, the government also aims to improve the quality of life of people in border villages under the Vibrant Villages Programme.
The development of the road infrastructure would mean better connectivity and easier access to remote areas. Therefore the people living in this area will have access to better education and health facilities. Apart from this, growth in tourism and the promotion of agriculture, education and culture will also create employment opportunities for the local population and improve their livelihoods. For instance, in Ladakh, the number of homestays has increased from 150 to 3000, thus providing better income opportunities for the locals. There are about 11000 greenhouses in the region that help grow crops despite the harsh climate. Furthermore, local products such as Pashmina wool, sea-buckthorn, handicrafts and GI-tagged (Geographical Indication) apricots are being promoted to help meet the demand for these products both locally and internationally.
The upgraded connectivity will further boost the region's digital infrastructure including online education, digital services and local businesses. A Centre of Excellence is being set up in Leh where young people will receive quality technical training. In addition, the Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone for India's first-ever Petroglyph Conservation Park in Leh to preserve ancient rock carvings that date back centuries, showcasing the civilisations that once thrived in this region.
These five projects are just the beginning of a long-term vision to improve infrastructure and the quality of life of Ladakh's residents. These would encourage tourism, trade and the local economy while preserving the ecological and cultural integrity of this difficult high-altitude region. In the long run, these would improve the standard of living for the residents of both urban areas as well as the remote border villages. Nevertheless, the eventual success of such projects will depend on the effective use and maintenance of these projects for the overall development of urban and rural areas of Ladakh.
