PowerWall Stuck in a 4-week Tesla Energy design loop: Advisor rejected layout citing code on an idea dropped weeks ago. How do I break this?
TL;DR: Stuck in Tesla Energy design limbo for 4 weeks on a 5-unit Powerwall setup (2 PW3s + 3 DC Expansions). On Sept 28, Tesla said garage placement violated R302.6 fire code, so I dropped it immediately. On Sept 30, we agreed via call/text on an exterior free-standing ground mount on a concrete pad behind my front gate. On Oct 10, Tesla explicitly told me to hold off pouring the pad until they provided engineered dimensions. Now, a new advisor sent a blanket rejection citing the garage again and claiming batteries can't sit on gravel/pavers—completely ignoring that I've been waiting on their pad specs to pour concrete. To top it off, they cited a "2-week turnaround" with zero clarity on whether the clock reset today or started when I re-raised the issue earlier this week. How do I force an escalation out of this CAD loop?
Looking for advice on breaking through Tesla Energy's design/advisor silos.
Setup & Status:
- 5-unit Powerwall system (2x PW3 + 3x Expansion) paired to existing solar (Enphase IQ7+) in SoCal (SCE).
- In design / pre-permitting for over 4 weeks.
Timeline:
- Late Sept: Rejected initial side-walkway plan because it blocked foot traffic. Asked if garage was viable.
- Sept 28–29: Tesla flagged R302.6 garage drywall/fire separation code. I acknowledged and dropped the garage completely on Sept 29.
- Sept 30: Advisor (Stephanie) confirmed via text: exterior mount behind front gate/fence (old AC area), conduit through garage, clear of water softener lines.
- Oct 1–10: Requested a free-standing ground mount on a dedicated concrete pad. On Oct 10, Tesla texted telling me to hold off pouring until design finalized the pad size and clearances.
- Oct 12: Tesla re-uploaded the original, rejected side-walkway plan. I sent a marked-up photo showing the gate location; they apologized and re-submitted to design.
- This Week: Another advisor (Matthew) stepped in with a flat rejection: citing R302.6 for the garage (abandoned weeks ago)and stating stacked units can't sit on pea gravel/pavers (ignoring that I've been waiting for Tesla's pad specs to pour the concrete).
- The Turnaround Ambiguity: They mentioned a standard "2-week turnaround" for design revisions, but left it completely vague whether that 2-week clock reset starting today or if it includes the time since I flagged this earlier in the week. Meanwhile, the initial scope was agreed upon over three weeks ago.
Questions:
- Does emailing [
resolutions@tesla.com](mailto:resolutions@tesla.com) actually force a Tier 2/senior design reassignment, or is calling phone support and asking for a supervisor more effective? - Has anyone dealt with advisors resetting the "2-week turnaround" clock every time internal handoffs drop the ball? How did you hold them to the original submission date?
