Airport Missed Connection: Tall Redhead on Southwest Flights TPA ↔ PVD (Oct. 9 & 12)
This is a long shot, but here goes!
To the tall, redheaded guy with the clear-framed glasses and dark baseball hat who was on my Southwest flight from Tampa to Providence on Friday, October 9, and somehow ended up on my return flight to Tampa on Monday, October 12, too.
We exchanged a few glances and smiles on the first flight and near where the piano guy was playing in Providence, and I recognized you again at the gate on our way back to Tampa. I was the one with the Star Wars backpack & in grey sweats. Anyway, I thought about saying something, but you departed the plane super quick on the 2nd flight back to Tampa and unfortunately I was in the way back.
I figured the odds of us being on the same two flights were pretty slim, so maybe the internet can work a little magic.
If this sounds like you, I’d love to say hi. :)

Government/Politics Raising Awareness to Midterm Amendment 3 - Homestead Exemption Increase
https://constitutionalinitiatives.dos.fl.gov/Home/InitDetail?account=10&seqnum=110
Intent: Amendment 3 is outlined at the above link. Currently, counties issue property taxes based on a home's assessed value. This amendment would increase the deduction (homestead exemption) from the assessed value and tax the remaining value at the respective millage rate.
Impact at first glance: it leads to lower property taxes.
Issues for the long-term:
- It does not address the loss in property tax revenue for counties, so local governments will have to do one or more of the following to compensate for the loss:
- Increase sales tax rate
- Increase millage rate on the remaining property value after the exemption is applied and/or
- Reduce services and perform layoffs
- It limits how local governments can spend their property tax funding to specific sectors and removes funding from sectors like public libraries and parks
Property tax reform may be needed, but the HJR 1F bill (amendment 3) does not address the reduction in revenue.
'Yes' votes to enact the proposed amendment
'No' votes to maintain the current exemption and, perhaps, a more thoroughly revised proposal
Feel free to vote as you wish
Sources:
- The HJR 1-F bill (aka Save our Homes from Excessive Property Taxes)

Disclaimer: Re-posting, but removing the suggestion on how to vote
Edit: replaced 'appraised' with 'assessed' as there's a clear, relevant distinction

Government/Politics Friendly Reminder: Republicans Gerrymandered YOUR Vote
Since early voting begins next week, I wanted to remind you that Republicans redrew our district to take away YOUR voice.
Tampa is not Riverview. Tampa is not Dade City. Tampa is not New Port Richey. For the sake of partisan politics, the Right is trying to steal our representation.
-
Let me be perfectly clear. If we lived in a blue state that gerrymandered our district, I would make the exact same post urging you to vote Republican instead. This is NOT about politics, this is about the people.
Any politician putting their party interests ahead of our right to representation needs to be kicked out of office. If you live in South Tampa, please go vote for Kathy Castor so this pathetic robbery attempt fails.
If you live in other parts of Tampa, go vote the Republican OUT and make them regret trying to subjugate our votes. The new lines are thin, and we are fed up with the corruption.

Construction/Development Contractor recommendation
ISO of a recommendation for a contractor that can assess the flooring and foundation under our laundry area. Flooring appears to be sinking where the washer/dryer are. It’s hard to catch in photos but is pretty easy to note in person

Homeownership Daikin Fit AC Experience
I’m replacing my 2.5 ton amana in my 950 sqft house. I think the guys that remodeled just put in an easy system that is too big because it’s caused high humidity - and the duct work hasn’t been replaced for 20 years…so a girl with allergies makes me look like my home is abusing me. 😬😱
The correct manual J calls for a 2 ton system. I want to put in a reme halo, redo the AC and duct work.
I’m leaning towards a Daikin Fit with R8 AmgFlex ducts. One of the HVAC companies is telling me he refuses to install Daikins because they are cheap “Chinese” systems that always have issues. I’ve obviously looked them up and found out it’s Japanese made and the largest HVAC manufacturer.
Either way - is the Daikin Fit a decent system for longevity? How does it compare to a carrier or the Trane (only handler built for an attic)?
I’m really struggling as my current system is functioning but I just want better air quality and a value install.
Thanks for any input!! Being a girl with so many HVAC salesman ain’t easy!

If you're in Florida and have a lease that's about to get turned in or traded in to a dealer, please message me before doing so.

Music Change.org Petition Against Ybor City Live Nation Venue
Just heard about this in the news, a Ybor resident started a change.org petition a (EDIT) WHILE ago, already has over 13K signatures.
I am all for more music venues, especially after long-time staples being pushed out of Ybor, but Live Nation is NOT the way to do that, and never will be.
Wanted to share in case this helps any others.

Creepy/Scary Threatened at gas station and venting.
I live in West Tampa and I'm used to what goes on by now. Last night I went with a friend to grab something for him as a favor, but my card kept declining in this shady gas station. I'll just say I knew it was shady based off of the kind of favor I was to be doing to begin with, although this is in hindsight. I had gotten charged despite also being "declined" by the place. I got aggravated and asked the clerk what's going on and that I hope I'm not being fucked. This customer behind me went on a rant and claimed I was "disrespectful" to the guy and how he wouldn't allow it and when I'd attempted to politely explain myself he said he didn't want to hear it and eventually escalated to mentioning how he had his (gun) in his car... Here's the thing, I easily have 50lbs on him and was closer to the door while having mine on me... this is literally just a rant throwaway to also PSA other Tampanians. Do not threaten someone like that unless you're already willing to end it, you have no idea the level of restraint someone may or may not have you stupid fucking piece of shit, you got lucky I decided not to up the ante.

Services Blue collar worker needs help
Hey everyone, so I moved here from Nebraska a few months ago and have been having a hell of a time landing a stable job. I’ve got 4 years experience as a production welder running MIG wire mostly.
I have been jumping through hundreds of applications and getting denied based on my lack of (5 years) or not enough experience in “particular” welding processes. I went to welding school and have proven long term experience at companies and no one wants me or I’m jumping through temp agency jobs
Now I do not necessarily need to find a welding job but that’s where my experience is. I would love to break into plumbing or construction or whatever to be honest. All I ask is that I can find a job that can give me overtime opportunities and at minimum 22 an hour and I’m living pretty comfortably at that point.
Im never late to work, I work all hours asked, I’m not in my phone and take my career seriously. Now before anyone says anything about the union, I tried working through the iron workers, they put me through one job with one of the most toxic Formans I’ve ever worked for and I was kicked off the job because i refused todo something extremely dangerous without being trained properly and now the union refuses to call me back or offer jobs even though I pay my monthly dues.
So any blue collar workers here in Tampa that could give me some advice or give me some companies that are good places to work let me know. If your shop or company is looking for a welder or just a general laborer let me know aswell as I wanna work and I’m not afraid of long hours and dirty conditions
Thank you seriously

Local Business Are there any cosplay commissioner or tailors who could make a costume for halloween?
Hello! I know this is last minute, but I'm trying to see if anyone with experience could make a costume for halloween. I'm looking for just the shirt and pants. Nothing else.
I would be willing to come in person for a consultation as long as you have a proper workplace. Additional photos and information can be provided, as well as any measurements necessary.
If anyone is interested, please send me a message about pricing and anything else required. I would also love to see examples/photos of costume pieces you have made prior!
