A fun 10X timelapse of my daily e-bike commute

I live in Rockville and work in Potomac, but most of my ride is in Rockville city limits. If people like this video, I am happy to post most videos of my bike rides around Rockville - If you know where the secret neighborhood cut-throughs are, Rockville is a very bike friendly city, as you can get basically anywhere without encountering high speed roads.

Looking for a studio apartment

Hi everyone! I’m looking for recommendations for an affordable studio apartment in or around Rockville, MD, with easy access to Montgomery College and the mall by public transportation.
I’d appreciate recommendations based on your experiences, especially regarding safety, management, and pest issues. Are there any apartment complexes you’d recommend or suggest avoiding?

Thank you

Looking for daycare/preschool recommendations near Layhill/Aspen Hill

Thumbnail
2 Upvotes

We’re looking for a daycare or preschool for our 18-month-old and almost 3-year-old. We live near Route 200 in the Layhill area and would prefer somewhere within a 15-minute drive. They would also need to accept Maryland Child Care Scholarship vouchers.
We’re open to home daycares, centers, faith based programs, language immersion, and true Montessori schools.
Ideally, we’d love somewhere that provides nutritious breakfast, lunch, and snacks (home-cooked meals would be a huge plus!), plenty of outdoor time, different activities, early learning, language exposure, and help with potty training.
More than anything, we want somewhere the teachers genuinely love and care for the kids. Good communication is really important to us, including honest updates about how their day went, even when things aren't going perfectly. We don't want our kids to feel like just another number.

24M new to Rockville — is it just me, or is making friends here hard?

Hey everyone! I'm 24M and moved to Rockville recently. One thing I've realized is that making friends as an adult is surprisingly difficult, especially when you're new to an area and don't already have a social circle. 😅

I'm trying to figure out where people my age go to meet new people around here. Are there any good social clubs, activities, or regular meetups in Rockville?

I'd love to try things like tennis (I'm a beginner and don't even have a racket yet), hiking, exploring new food spots, checking out different cultural events, or just finding fun things to do on weekends.

I'd especially love to meet people from different backgrounds and cultures and make some new friends along the way.

For those who've lived here a while, how did you meet your friends? And if anyone else is new to the area or looking to expand their social circle, feel free to reach out! Always happy to meet new people. 🙂

Rockville Considering Lowering Voting Age to 16 for City Elections

I don’t feel strongly about this, lean towards NOT lowering it, but I could maybe be convinced, haven’t done much research. Voters pretty strongly rejected it during the referendum in 2023.

Update: My experience trying to make new friends while living in Rockville at age 40

Hey everyone! I had a surprisingly warm response from my original post and would love to give you all an update on what happened since last week!

Original post here: My experience trying to make new friends while living in Rockville at age 40: should it be this hard? : r/Rockville

Throughout the day I posted, I received amazing feedback: lots of encouragement, great suggestions, and a number of local men and women who reached out to meet.

I’ll admit I was a little nervous about it. I had never met up with anyone from Reddit before. But I was determined not to be the guy who went online complaining that he wanted to make friends and then said no when people actually reached out and offered.

So I said yes to everyone.

On Thursday, I had lunch at a South Indian restaurant with a fellow dad who was into cycling. Really enjoyed the conversation and the food.

Friday morning, I had coffee with someone who lives close to the same shopping center as me. We had a really interesting conversation about our experiences meeting strangers and trying to build a social life locally.

Friday evening, I went out for drinks and some bar hopping with a local guy. Very charismatic. He’s definitely the type of person you want around for local group nightlife. Not to mention, I won a little Kuromi figurine from a claw machine. Jackpot!

Saturday morning, I tried breakfast tacos with another local guy. He and his wife love music, and I’m looking forward to a little jam sesh with them one of these days.

Later that Saturday, I met a fellow scientist who invited me to go fishing with her and her husband. I really enjoyed her sense of humor. I had never tried fishing before, but it was fun. I’d absolutely do it again.

Monday evening, I went out for hot pot with a woman who is into cuisine and restaurants like I am. Even though I’ve been to hot pot restaurants a dozen times, she was able to teach me a lot I didn’t know about hot pot cuisine. I may have found my local foodie friend.

I will admit, it was a bit challenging to schedule so many meets in such a short time, but it was well worth the effort. I’m really glad I did it. I’d happily see every one of these people again and I would absolutely be up for another round of Reddit meets with some more new people!

The biggest thing I took away from all of this is that the people I was looking for really are here. Maybe we’re just bad at finding each other.

So I decided to try organizing some of this a little more intentionally in group form. I started a Meetup group for local millennials who want to make those connections a little easier, and I’m hoping it can grow into the kind of local community I was looking for when I wrote the original post.

Thank you, people of Rockville, for being so kind, generous, and open to me. It really means a lot.

Consolidated with thread on Gaithersburg subreddit 34[m4A] #montgomery county, Maryland Rockville looking for dnd lovers and homebrew lovers

Hello adventurer,

Are you looking for a story? Do you have a detailed backstory? Are you looking for adventure, horror, action and fantasy? Are you new to the game? Everyone is welcome at my table! I’m thinking about a campaign of dnd 5e(the old 5e), about zombies, vampires, biological abominations, mutants and more!

I’d like to stress my favorite things about dnd is the storytelling aspect, then action and then traps! I would love people who have medium to long backstories so that I can create a giant campaign in Faerun, possibly the underworld and the land of the Fae! I love huge campaigns that are “supposed” to be long term campaigns but we know how that goes sometimes!

I’d like to also say, I’d like to use original races and classes; Human, Elf, dwarf, half orc, gnome, halfling and barbarian, ranger, fighter, wizard, sorcerer, monk, cleric, rogue and paladin!

If you’re interested in the dangers, the excitement, the horror, and the suspense of a homebrew campaign where anything can be and will be thrown at you please inquire within!

Good Luck adventurer,

Silvas Leafblade

MCPD car always parked with engine on in the red circle.

I started spotting this police car in the parking lot.

I wonder what they do.

The engine is on and the light is on. It’s behind the Rockville Volunteer Fire Station. I guess the parking lot is for small businesses, not shared with the vitamin store on the pike.
