Welcome to /r/quilting where no question is a stupid question and we are here to help you on your quilting journey.
Feel free to ask us about machines, fabric, techniques, tutorials, patterns, or for advice if you're stuck on a project.
We highly recommend The Ultimate Beginner Quilt Series if you're new and you don't know where to start. They cover quilting start to finish with a great beginner project to get your feet wet. They also have individual videos in the playlist if you just need to know one technique like how do I put my binding on?
So ask away! Be kind, be respectful, and be helpful. May the fabric guide you.

The blocks are 6” and sashing is 2”. The outer borders are 6”. So in my head I’d planned to sandwich with fluffy wool batting and then quilt the sashing and border with a grid like pattern. Leaving the actual blocks to pop…. Then I read on the batting that the max distant between stitches is 4”. So I need to do some quilting in the blocks… 😞 and I’m at a loss…. Maybe just like a square in the center. 🤷♀️ Any help would be appreciated!

I sketched out a design on graph paper. Did the math. Tested the blocks. Then made the quilt. All for my daughter’s wedding. It was a fun experience for sure!
Edit: spelling is difficult lol… graft to graph 🤦🏻♀️

My first attempt at free motion quilting! Just did a meander, all in all pleased with how it came out. Now three more of these placemats and a table runner to go

It was so exciting because I upgraded my longarm which made this easier. I quilted quotes from the 1922 and most recent Nosferatu movie!

Used mostly second hand fabric and thrifted sheets, quilted on my domestic machine (and it was a struggle). The brown was hand dyed with black walnut, what looks black is actually a very dark green corduroy, which I have decided I love in quilts! Feeling newly obsessed with quilts, maybe it’s a midlife crisis?

I do love harvest mice. I normally sew field mice sheet is in honesty they aren't very anatomically correct a lot if the time with oversized ears, so they harvest mice were cute to do with their very small ears! The last picture is the illustration I did for the accompanying fabric panel.

Hello Quilting community I myself am not a quilter but my partner is and she was having trouble finding an easy way to plan out a pattern and choose where each piece of fabric would fit into that pattern and all the free options available either took a lot of work or weren't very user friendly so as a software developer I thought "I could make something half decent" so here it is. This is Quilt Planner a tool that you can use in your browser. No login, no subscription, no data being stolen and sold off.
In this tool you can import patterns from images (This works with simpler patterns with a uniform grid may struggle with more complex patterns with no uniform grid) and assign each section a fabric that is either from imported images or just simple block colours. If you choose not to import a pattern you can design your own with either some preset shapes or design your own shapes. Once you have your pattern all made up and fabric assigned you can export the design to either an image or PDF.
If anyone ends up using this and has issues with anything or has ideas for how to make it better my DMs are open. If this is against any of the subreddits rules or guidelines please let me know how I can correctly advertise this.

Controversial baby quilt with black detailing. It doesn’t look like a baby quilt to me but I had so much fun making it.
I couldnt find the exact pink that I had in my stash, so i had to switch to a color that was closer.

I'm happy to have finished this about a baby sized quilt (40") called Pallette Pop by Missouri Star. It is an epp quilt but I did it by machine with a zig zag stitch. I changed some of the fabrics from the original based on what fabrics I had in my stash. It was a nice quick finish that I made in a week. It's going to be fun to practice my free motion in each color section.

Made my first quilt after watching many youtube tutorials and reading online. This sub has been a great source of information so thank you all.
The quilt top is made with mostly Tilda fabrics from the Future Heirloom series. Panel is Effies Wood Panel. Quilt back is prewashed flanel. Machine quilted around the squares in the ditch and then handquilted the branches and around the animals. Bias binding. No pattern. Designed and randomised the blocks myself. I reckoned that squares would be most beginner-friendly and fitting the panels and so they were. Squares are about 10cm/ 4" square.
This project included a personal challenge to accept flaws and be proud regardless. Really happy how this little thing has turned out.

I’ve been putting off buying better storage for my bigger bits of fabric for agesss and finally got round to doing it and it’s sooo much better.
Much more space efficient, I can actually see my fabric now and can easily take out what I need.
I bought 2 low bookshelves from Amazon (boo Amazon but I really struggled to find something the right size else where) and I’ve wrapped the fabric round 400gsm comic board.
The shelves fit under my Ikea desk and if I fold the fabric selvedge to selvedge (like it is on the bolt) then fold it in half again the same way the the fabric ends up slightly bigger than the board and fits in the shelves perfectly (standard width quilting fabric)
The board was thinner than I was imagining but it’s turned out good the board doesn’t waste space and provides enough rigidity to keep the fabric in place
I will need to put a piece of calico or something over it because I get a lot of direct sunlight in this room but it’s created so much space for more fabric… and it’s so satisfying to look at.
It works best for 1m plus piece but I have started putting 0.5m in now because my other drawers are full.. I haven’t used pins or anything to hold it in place I’ll see how I go I might need to on the smaller pieces
Can provide links if anyone need (I’m in the uk)

So excited to finish this and can't wait to give it to my mom tomorrow for her birthday! The fpp blocks are designed by u/littletinypiranha ( long cat modular block and corner cat block) and they were a blast to make even though I'm a newb at fpp. I added piping and a zipper to make a giant 24 x 36" pillow, and I hope Mom and her cats all enjoy. :)

a while back, i posted a quilted table runner i made my boss for her birthday and someone commented “you must have a great boss for them to deserve a gift like this.” the answer is yes, i do!! she got me a gift certificate to my local quilt shop as a thank you for something i did for her, and it was enough for me to buy a new iron AND cutting mat today (with a little bit left over!!)
i am SO glad to finally have an iron with an auto shut-off. hopefully i will now be able to go to sleep at night without feeling the compulsion right before i doze off to get up and make sure the iron is off…

Back in February i pieced 2 of these panels to eventually make throw pillow covers for my dad’s birthday. I unfortunate stumbled into a months long health situation immediately after finishing these but before doing any quilting. I completely forgot about them and found them today while cleaning.
Great! A Christmas present that’s already halfway done and I’m feeling healthy enough to get back into things!! Here comes the issue…
It has just now occurred to me that i have never actually quilted anything like this before. All I’ve done is matchstick / straight lines / standard diamond pattern. I honestly have no idea what my plan for was when i started these and im not sure how to proceed. If I’m being really honest i probably did not have a plan (standard for me).
I have a brother CP100x which a free motion quilting foot, in addition to a standard walking foot. I’m not afraid of a challenge but I’m wondering if anyone has resources or tips on what stitching pattern to use on these that won’t be too basic.
Thank you!

My guild does a monthly sewing day and this month we had a themed project of quilted witches hats, featuring Joann ribbons that I've had for at least 4 years

Just finished this quilt top for my baby quilt (baby arriving in November!) and am looking for suggestions for walking foot friendly quilting designs that would showcase this giant star, but don’t take a ton of time. I’ve only ever done cross hatch and it’s worked out well, but I’m ready to branch out and want to make this one more special. Thank you! ☺️

First one is a baby quilt for my little one. This isn't the original pattern idea, the pattern I was following was friendship stars with 4 patch corners but when I laid all the blocks out, my husband said he saw swastikas (??) I thought they looked more like ninja stars but I rearranged the blocks and made a few more and he liked this better. Just need to baste and quilt it by January but I'm still undecided on a quilting pattern so am open to suggestions.
Second one is my own pattern and this time around I used all feedsack fabrics from the 30s. It's been my leader and ender project for the last year and the baby quilt left me with half a row to sew together. I was ready for it to come off the wall so I finished it up after the baby quilt. I'll be hand quilting this one after I finish my other hand quilting project hopefully later this month.
What's everyone else been working on today?

Meant to be queen-sized but ended up like… 9ft by 9ft. Whoopsie!

This one was my first time making economy blocks and my first time doing cornerstones on the border. I'm really happy with how it came out, especially the crinkle! Going to a coworkers baby.

Just finished my pumpkin blocks! About to start cutting my center block today, I just hope I finish before Halloween. Wish me luck!

My attempt in drafting a paper piecing block and making one. Definitely a learning curve! Final size is 30x30 cm and some of the pieces were tiny.
