Good morning, pillow talk enthusiasts! We’ve reached over 600 poetry posts and have noticed some confusion about how to flair and tag these posts. Inspired by a recent update on GWN, we want to talk about poetry posts.

Here are PTA’s existing content flairs:

  • Improvisation
  • OC
  • Poetry
  • Private script fill
  • Script offer
  • Script fill
  • Storytelling

😤 What is the Poetry flair for?

You can use it for all posts related to poetry, such as:

  • Reading a famous poem (like Shakespeare)
  • Posting a written poem for other people to use
  • Posting an audio of a poem you filled from a poem offer
  • Posting an audio of a poem you wrote yourself ​ However! If you want to offer poems to other people to record, you have the choice of flairing as Poetry or Script Offer; either is fine. If you are posting an audio you made from a poem offer, you can flair it as Poetry or Script Fill; either is fine.

🙋🏻‍♀️ How to tag it? Is it "poem offer" or "poetry offer"?

It’s both! GWASI has:

  • 5 [poem offer]
  • 9 [poetry offer]
  • 7 [poem fill]
  • 5 [poetry fill] ​ So, we are willing to accept either as a tag! We won’t remove poetry posts for using ‘the wrong tag’ (unless you filled someone’s offer and didn’t tag it as a fill). ​ Just like regular script offers and script fills, you do have to tag if a poem is an offer or a fill. ​ You can dual-tag as [poem offer] [script offer]. You can dual-tag as [poem fill] [script fill]. But you don’t have to dual-tag.

🎫 Examples of tagging poetry posts:

  • [poem fill] or [poetry fill] - you're filling a poem already offered on Reddit
  • [poem offer] or [poetry offer] - you're offering a poem to be filled
  • [poem reading] or [poetry reading] - you're reading a famous poem
  • [OC] [poetry] - you made the poem, and it's not posted as an offer
  • [poem] [script fill] - the poem has a public offer
  • [poem] [script fill] [private script fill] - the poem doesn't have a public offer
  • [poem] [script fill] [self fill] - you wrote the poem and posted an offer ​ The wiki and FAQ have been updated to acknowledge that “poem fill” is now a thing. Happy September from your mod team. 💙🤍🖤

September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. We've received questions about whether we allow content about this topic. Yes, posts on this topic are permitted at any time, but with caveats.

Guidelines to follow:

  • Treat the topic with the respect and sensitivity it deserves. Posts discussing the matter frankly, or offering comfort to others, are allowed, but USE COMMON SENSE. This is still a pillow talk subreddit.
  • Be mindful not to come across as offering mental health support. Don’t position yourself as a therapist for readers or listeners.
  • No active, ONSCREEN acts of suicide or self-harm are allowed. This means you cannot interrupt an active act ‘to save’ the listener.
  • You CAN offer kind, supportive words for acts that happened OFF-SCREEN in the past, or worries about the future.
  • Your post cannot be a cry for help. Do not post content about your personal struggle that you’re still struggling with. If you are in crisis, posting content about that topic here is not appropriate.
  • Never censor or star out the word with asterisks. Write “suicide” so people who use GWASI to avoid tags can avoid your post.

How to tag it:

Use either “CW” for content warning, or “TW” for trigger warning, like this:

  • [CW] discussing [suicide]
  • [CW] [Suicide Prevention Awareness Month]
  • [CW] [Suicide Prevention Month]

Examples of acceptable posts on this topic:

We cannot list every acceptable example of what you can post. Use this list as a basic guide and ask yourself if your idea fits this framework.

  • A speaker who talks about their own struggle with these topics. You can discuss that you have personal experience with this as long as you don’t glorify it and you aren’t currently in crisis.
  • Discussing topics like dealing with the aftermath, such as visiting someone in the hospital or being visited, dealing with funerals, shame about scarring, or feelings of grief and anger.
  • Offering kind words to a listener who struggled with suicidal thoughts.
  • Offering kind words to a listener who lost a loved one to suicide.
  • Offering kind words to a listener who struggled with self-harm.

I’m not sure if my post fits these guidelines.

  • Moderators aren't available to beta-read or beta-listen to your content to judge if it's acceptable or not.
  • If you think your content might be ‘borderline’ or too far on this topic, assume that it’s not allowed and don’t post it.
