GPU GPU fan replacement vs mod?
Hello, hope this is the right sub to ask, found some similar questions from the past.
I have this GPU: 6700xt
The fans have started making angry sounds so I would like to replace them. I don't plan on doing anything with the thermal pads or paste to avoid any complications (if this is foolish please lmk).
Here are the stock replacement fans: fans
I've seen some people use better fans and find some way to attach them. I'm not worried about how it looks. I have seen people mention needing to use different power cables or software to control the fans, which I want to avoid.
If I wanted to use regular case fans, what would be recommended? Which size and does it matter if I use 2 or 3? How would I make sure that the fans would have the right connectors to plug into the GPU?
Or should I just use the stock fans and be done with it?
Thanks for the help!
General My first real Laptop to Desktop conversion
So Ive had an old Dell G7 7790 just taking up space and Ive always wanted to convert it to a desktop because it always ran hot (no amount of cleaning or repasting helped).
This is my first attempt at this. It was likely 100+ hours or more to get it to this point haha.
Key features:
Ripped out the old dell cooling (in himdsight a bad idea lol) then removed the heatpipes, sanded like crazy and kept the original cold plates. But since those cold plates were recessed due to the heatpipes, I ended up running a long copper rod across the coldplates. Used Duronaut between the rod and coldplates. Then ptm7950 between the rod and the two desktop thermalright heatsinks.
Here is where I hit my first snag: laptop fans are 5v. Desktop fans are 12v. So I chucked the fans, and put on two 92mm 5v noctua fans after having someone better than me solder the tiny laptop fan plug to the noctua cable.
Fired it up. Noticed the fans didnt spin until it got real hot. Was the PWM wire not working? Nope, it was. Its just that laptop ECs are sending a signal to say, turn fans to 30% but its not enough juice for these fans so they dont spin until it calls for much higher (80-100%).
So, against my better judgement I cut the PWM wire. Now the fans are constantly at 100% and do yhe job. But its too loud. So I put noctuas LNA adapters that cap the fans to 60%. Almost whisper quiet.
Buuut its not quite enough cooling for the cpu. So I lowered the tdp from 45 to 35. And now its working great. Tim to give it to my daughter since she needs a decent pc for school and gaming!
TL:DR: if you are planning to do a laptop to desktop conversion, absolutely use the stock cooling but make the case thicker for more ventilation and use PTM 7950. It will save you quite a headache!

Liquid cooled Motorcycle Glow idea
My apologies if this isn't relevant, but cross-posting.
I've got an idea to basically put a liquid glow loop on a motorcycle. Utilizing tubing and anti microbial and resevoir and glow in the dark powder, suspended in a thick solution, pumped through a UV blacklight charging block, to give a very unique and intense lighting effect. Obviously it's a project that many folks here can identify with, as I'll be using many of the same parts as a water cooled pc rig, with UV reactant dye. I wanted to hear the community's thoughts on this, and any suggestions.
Peristaltic pump to avoid damage from the grit nature of the glow powder, anti microbial to keep the line from getting infected, I'm hopping a thicker fluid of something like vegetable glycerin would be able to suspend particulates of strontium aluminate 30 micron to 50 micron in diameter. I'm not quite sure the proportions of everything, but was considering Propylene Glycol as well, or maybe a combination of the two. It should take only a few minutes to charge up fully and once it is, it'll glow for hours even with the engine off and power disconnected.
Again thank you for your time, and my apologies if this is too off topic.

Peripheral Need a usb type e -> type c system cable. Case: Lianli lancool 2
I have a MSI b550 Gaming plus mobo. it has a port for usb 3.1 gen1 type c and my case's front panel has a slot for it. The problem is the cables i've tried don't sit flush and are always below the front panel board. I need a cable that is raised well above the front panel board.
Case Open-air DIY Inox 316L (Custom PC, ~100h work)
Hello everyone! For those who remember my previous project Steel Ice, I wanted to push things further by starting from scratch to design this new open-air chassis.
Between the CAD design on Fusion 360, laser cutting the sheet metal, bending, and TIG welding assembly, the project took around a hundred hours of work.
1. Chassis & Sheet Metal (316L Stainless Steel)
It all started with modeling and creating the flat patterns for laser cutting 316L stainless steel sheets. The main technical challenge was managing heat input during manual TIG welding to prevent warping on thin gauges, all while preserving that raw, brushed industrial look.
2. CNC Machined Parts (6061-T6 Aluminum)
For the cladding—specifically the custom GPU backplate and cover.
I started from a solid block of 6061-T6 aluminum machined by Face Précis. The contrast in textures between the brushed stainless steel and the raw machined aluminum reinforces the mechanical identity of the build.
3. Watercooling Integration
The cooling loop is built on an Alphacool Core 2 XT base, complemented by a custom 316L stainless steel rigid/braided hose to seamlessly match the chassis's aesthetic.
4. Technical Specifications (Hardware)
CPU: Intel Core Ultra 7 270K
Motherboard: MSI Pro Z890-A WiFi
GPU: Palit GeForce RTX 5070 Ti (with its CNC-machined backplate by Fast Preci)
Cooling: Alphacool Core 2 XT with stainless steel 316L loop integration
PSU: Seasonic PRIME TX-1300W
RAM: AGI TurboJet DDR5
Exhibition & Behind the Scenes:
The PC will be exhibited live next week at Paris Games Week.
If you're interested in the fabrication details (machining parameters, welding), the full process is shared on my socials
Feedback and technical thoughts on the design and execution are very welcome in the comments!

GPU Adding vram to Nvidia 5070 mobile gpu
I have seen some videos of vram being added to older Nvidia cards for desktops. Does anyone know if it’s possible to get vram added to a Blackwell mobile gpu? It may be a dumb question. Thanks in advance for the input.
Case Expanding in a Fractal Ridge
I've got a fractal ridge build that i'd like to add a few more SSDs too, i've had a few laying around since before the crisis. Though obviously its not a case designed around it, i recently saw some of the Prom21 cards. I'm looking at the WisdPi and SouthBridge Max cards right now, both because they support sata and 2/3 of my drives are sata and my board has none. So my questions are, do i need any additional support for one of the cards besides the pcie bracket(i do travel with it)? And what m.2 to pcie 4x cards are high quality and have the length to reach from my m.2 slot to where i'd need it. My motherboard is the Minisforum BD895i and my GPU is only a dual slot so i do have one open slot at the top of the case and don't plan to upgrade it any time soon.

General Are hobbyist CNCs enough to build usable waterworks or no? Since high budget ones are too much power for a regular house outlet.
Id love to eventually attempt making a custom GPU block for my 1070, if it manages to live that long
Edit: why title says waterworks idk, stupid autocorrect

Case Another GPU anti-sag support, for a specific use case
Every GPU anti-sag support I found needed an empty case floor. Mine has fans there, so I designed one that mounts on the fans.
New PC, heavy GPU (RTX 5080), and bottom intake fans, so there’s no floor to rest a support on. I couldn’t find a single model that handled this, so I made one.
It bridges two 140 mm fans using their existing screw holes and covers only ~3 % of the fan area, so airflow isn’t affected. The tower slides onto a hex rail, and a printed Tr12×3 threaded rod with a lock nut does the fine adjustment. After a few overengineered iterations (pics included 😅), I went back to a simple, industrial design.
It comes in 2 height ranges from ~80 to ~154 mm, measured from the top of the fan frame to the underside of the GPU. The minimum safety factor is ~7, including PETG creep at 50 °C. It has swappable nameplates (RTX, NVIDIA, RADEON, or blank), prints without supports, and the profiles are ready for Bambu printers. Hardware: just 4 standard fan screws.
White base, black hex part: on a white build it looks like it’s floating. Print it in PETG, not PLA.
Currently for 140 mm fans. If enough people want a 120 mm version, let me know and I’ll make one.

Case Fresh of mill - custom PC aluminum chassis before anodizing
Fresh of mill, solid 5mm aluminum case for a 4x RTX PRO 6000 setup. I'm test-fitting it before anodizing.
This case will hold 4 Pro 6000 Blackwell cards, a WS W790E-SAGE SE mobo, 2 2000W PSUs, and 18 fans, running 24/7
After being anodized, this chassis will be in full mate black.
What's your thought on this?
