I figured I'd be doing everyone a disservice if I didn't pin a post regarding one of the most fun annual events. Neotropolis is a 5 day event in the Mojave desert with a cyberpunk theme. Located on the fictional planet of Kepler-609c, there are nightclubs, DJs, live performances from synthwave artists, cosplay, larping, trades to be made, merch and gear to be purchased, and neon lights everywhere (I'm not joking...imagine Burning Man, but replace the fire with NEON LIGHTS!)
They erect several buildings (including the 2 floor MEGABLOCK ONE) that house bars, stores, clubs, quests, food, merch, costume and makeup needs, and many more. One of the best structures is the Kaiju Nightclub, featuring an all day/night rotation of amazing DJs, ramen noodles, dance floor, chill out areas, Beyblade competitions, and more.
2026 had talent like Droid Bishop, Starfarer, Street Cleaner, Megatronix, Seersha, Watch Out For Snakes, Night Rider '87, Faith In The Glitch, and more! All performing at The Core (the main stage). Can't wait for the 2027 lineup!
The event/festival is located about 2 hours outside of LA (or Vegas, depending on which direction you are coming from). Wearing thematic costume is mandatory (can simply dress like a cyberpunk mechanic if you like, or go wild and try to win a costume contest). Onsite campgrounds for tents/RVs/cars. If you are like me and prefer the luxury of a hotel, check out either Holiday Inn or Comfort Inn. Both have hotels about 30 mins drive or less from the event. It's an 18+ event, and donating some booze to the Atomic Cafe is encouraged, as almost all the bars onsite serve up free drinks (or with NeoCreds earned through quests). Non-alcoholic beverages are also on hand. Bring your own, and bring your own cup in case you want to sample others.
I've been twice before, and I'm now an addict. These are YOUR people. Fellow sci-fi, cyberpunk, synthwave, and costume freaks. It's the closest you'll get to experiencing Blade Runner. Check out 2025's highlight reel:
