Competition Format

From the 2026/27 season onwards, the first stage of the competition will see a Swiss-style league format implemented with fixtures drawn by region.

League Phase fixtures will be split into two regionalised groups (Northern and Southern). Each team will play six matches within their region - three home and three away. Southern teams will face three WSL1 and three WSL2 opponents, while Northern teams will play two WSL1 and four WSL2 opponents.

The top eight teams will be drawn into seeded quarter-finals, with the highest-ranked team facing the eighth-ranked, and so on.

Teams competing in the Champions League are no longer entered into the League Cup, at any phase.
