Phonetics/Phonology question of the day: whats the phoneme you think is underrated and/or overhated
for me its the retroflex r. as in /ɻ/. people often whine about it when learning mandarin but its very cool actually. i hate the rolled r and you can NOT change my mind

Semantics This is Protoeden aka Varioorioori (200 for its 200 words) or whatever
It is a stupid language that seems kartvelic and this is like half the words but it was supposedly spoken in the garden of eden

Semantics ProtoEden from beginnings to today - the full faerstory
Basically I'm from Palermo Italy and I went to the Piccola Accademia dei Talenti where I made songs under Salvo Capizzi. He was very sicilian nationalist but I kept on getting obsessed on weird places like Georgia caucasus as it reminded me of two specific characters I was obsessed by and angry to, and made a lot of weird songs with weird words, some went into the future, others instead went to the past. And in the past to some there is also Eden, and they'd have to speak a language then or have a language before it? Which would also propably have few words, so the few words of ProtoEden actually make sense.
Anyways, ProtoEden started with ONE song lyric. "Javari Evaneth Obi" that means, eva don't eat that apple. I then translated said lyrics to other languages and saw it was closest to Georgian which I was obsessed by to the point that other people could'nt believe I was'nt ethnically Georgian (and even more often, i was mistaken for a Whovian\Doctor Who fan\someone who had watched all of Doctor Who, but actually Doctor Who was just WAY more real to me than other tv shows) (although technically I found Doctor Who through MLP:FiM and Georgia through Armenia which I found through Simpsons, eventually came an association between Georgia and two specific sims which one of them died in a savefile of mine and i cried for months because I saw them as more real.) (So In ProtoEden there also Is references to those characters despite how few words it has)
From then I developed "ProtoEden" Based on the letters in "javari evaneth obi", and also on georgian, trying to find closest letters to its words and sometimes\often turning a word backwards to turn it into its opposite. So it is kinda a geodesic language, not just 200 words, but like it's 100 words and flipping it turns it into the other 100 but not exactly a 100 too 100 case basis, just a language with a weird lexicon some of which is not even technically kartvelic at all.
Because if Proto Eden is or was truly spoken at Eden, then it predates kartvelic languages because kartvelic languages would be post babel!

Tangutologists make a reasonable reconstruction challenge (impossible)
Tangut is a Sino-Tibetan language of the rGyalrongic branch, whose reconstruction is fucked by early theories that it's part of the Loloish branch instead. Specifically, literally everyone reconstructs a CV syllable structure with five suprasegmentals, with both reconstruction systems shown here sharing vowel tenseness, nasality, rhoticism, and tone.
The one on the left is the earliest widely-accepted reconstruction by Gong Hwang-Cherng 龔煌城, and involves contrasting -ji, -jij, -jii, and -jiij, as well as medial glides -j- and -i-. The final suprasegmental is vowel length.
Gong Xun 龔勳 (no relation to GHC), saw the fact that none of those medial glides correspond to anything in the languages Tangut was in contact with and decided to flip it on its head and posit suprasegmental uvularization on the syllables without that medial yod instead (and -ʕ- instead of -i-. And he also saw that those syllables with "vowel length" aren't used to transcribe the corresponding Sanskrit syllables, and instead posited prenasalization. Leading us to that beautiful monstrosity on the right. (And most of that comes from material both reconstructions share!)
I've exaggerated the horror for effect. In "reality", tenseness, rhoticism, and nasalization are mutually exclusive. But I honestly can't see how that is anything close to correct.

One asked me to type out a word in IPA, and when I played what I typed it sounded right to me but I was still miles away from the actual solution
meme and effort to learn IPA inspired by the other meme about it someone posted about an hour ago

Lads, how do we feel about the 1996 Latin alphabet for Tsakhur
Yes they really expected people to distinguish Palochka from both lowercase L and dotless I, I get to twist provisional but it's still the funniest thing ever to me considering but also used both soft and hard sign, and z with stroke for /ts/, which honestly should have stayed in the 2010 orthography ts is overrated., this is more humorous because of how fuck insane this looks. Thank God the diagraphs with the vowels and Palochkas for pharyngealized vowels /aˁ, oˁ, uˁ, ɨˁ/ got replaced by ə ö ü & ı’

Sociolinguistics The Linguistic Singularity
It could be possible at least for English, that we have an ur-English that increasingly absorbs features in pronunciation, grammar and syntax from other languages as it expands to most of the world, plus natural sound changes, making it unintelligible to the “local dialects”. Unfortunately for that I don’t American English being a “home language” vs International “school/work” language, although AAVE has similar dynamics
I am aware of the adaptation of Singlish and West African Pidgin English to modernity through pop music, ads, social media etc. Naija pidgin even has its own standardized orthography. So further divergence along these lines could occur
