I want to smell like straight pencil shavings, I want to smell like a jammy ballpoint pen, I want to smell like stark white paper! Iāve searched the sub a million times and Iāve tried many recs, but I need your help. Typically the pencil shavings note is too quiet, paper is paired with leather which I donāt love, and the ink is too sharp. Hereās what Iāve tried:
Thinking Cap by Cardinal Scents: earl grey tea, hard caramels, notebook paper, pencil dust
Have and LOVE, one of my top indies. Wouldnāt mind MORE pencil dust; I think I need a straight pencil dust perfume for layering!
Gentle Reader by Cardinal Scents: old book pages, vanillin, orris butter, vintage amber
Have a sample and do wear it from time to time. Thereās a slight glossiness to it that only agrees with me around half the time, but I love that itās all old paperback, no leather.
Body Double by Cardinal Scents: iris, amber, styrofoam, thermal paper, new clothes
Tried, was fascinated, and huff from time to time. Is receipt paper in a bottle.
Novel Creature by Cardinal Scents: Espresso, Magazines, New Books, Polished Wood, A Stranger's Perfume
Absolutely love their Magazine accord and huff often but canāt tolerate coffee for daily wear. I wish i could literally buy a rollerball of the Magazine note.
(less indie, but) Paperback - Demeter: Just a touch of the musty smell of aged paper, a sprinkling of violets and a dash of tasteful potpourri
One of my first loves getting into non-mainstream perfumery. Still love it but want to expand and the performance is poor as with all Demeters.
Personal Assistant by Nui Cobalt: Blank paper and a newly sharpened pencil, wheat straw, fresh golden pear, and smooth sandalwood, anchored by deep emerald musk
Brand new from their Witches Utility Collection, I believe. Iām new to NCD and bought a TON of samples and this was my most highly anticipated one. I need to let it rest for a few more days, but I got mostly pear and emerald musk, little or no pencil or paper to be seen. Will re-try soon, but again, I think I need something to layer with all these.
Enchanted Ink by Arcana Wildcraft: A mossy aromatic that isĀ created with a gorgeous ink accord blended with velvety mosses, cedar, wild roots, magical spells, conifer, rhubarb and cashmere
Cool but EXTREMELY strong, the strongest perfume I have ever encountered, and leaned very masculine on me. Plus, I keep trying to play nice with Rhubarb but she wonāt play nice with me. All sharp and masculine, no jammy ink.
Chinese Calligraphy by dāAnnam: Ink, Black Lacquer, Paper, Coffee, Orchid
Also cool but very intense, almost smoky, and leaned super masculine on me. Need to try it again, but donāt think itās the ink of my dreams.
LOOKING FOR OPINIONS ON:
Book Fair by Amorphous: freshly printedĀ book pages, ink, number 2 pencils, and a cool autumn breeze waftingĀ through the window of a school library
Sounds absolutely perfect for me, but reviews mention a āmintā note and occasionally that it leans masculine. Can anyone weigh in?
No. 2 (Pencil Shavings) by DSH: The fascinating and nostalgic aroma of pencil shavings straight from your 3rd grade classroom
Could this be itāthe pencil dust layering note of my dreams? Straight from the sharpener? Would love any reviews.
Book Fair by Stardust & Stems: Play Clay, Crayons, Apple Slices, Books, Vanilla, Pencil Shavings, Cashmere Musk
Howās the apple here? Iād be fine with it if it is a crisp, non-spiced apple and if it doesnāt completely take over.
Wish I could find stark white paper without leather, a jammy ink, a photorealistic and strong pencil shavings accord.
Anything else? Incredibly open to recommendations!
