Vent / rant “mbbs friends are your lifelong friends”
is it just me who cannot relate to this at all? i mean we started off solid in first year, but yeah the groups fell apart and shrunk and even the people who i do call my “friends” have at some point done VILE acts of betrayal to me. i’m on cordial terms with everyone for the sake of convenience but the hurt made me detach from everyone completely; i don’t trust anyone anymore and i’ve made my peace with it honestly
my father is a doctor and he always said mbbs friends are your lifelong friends, i see how he’s still in touch with his batchmates from 30 years ago. but i know i wont be. sometimes their selfishness sends me into such a fit of rage i just think to myself that i’m going to block each one of them the day i’m out of here lol

Discussion About abuse of AI slop power points in Medical College classes.
4th year student here(2023 batch).
Recently in my college there is a surge of AI generated powerpoints among professors especially those of surgery and medicine.
These guys weren't saints who would tech well before.... They used to never look away from the slide and just read it out but atleast I used to get to look at real images.
Now with the recent introduction of ppt generation capacities. These people have now resided to generating powerpoints from claude/gemini.
How do I know? Because I read my books and I have seen ct's. I have worked with LLM models and i understand how XML parser text for slide gen.
The issue is AI is absurdly bad at making anatomical or radiological images. We are getting fed wrong ct scans and mri and x rays and the anatomical relationships are all messed up.
These people are technologically illiterate and know nothing about how models hallucinate. When features are missing it ct images they simply say that resolution is not clear enough. But knowing that it's all wrong and messed up is bothering me.
So should we report these to dept hod's or get a complaint raised regarding these? Is this the new norm?
* I am not against AI use for ppt, I use a lot of LLM API's for programming, image gen and text parsing but I am against its abuse especially in critical subjects that depend on right anatomy and radiology.
Also the guys with experience like HOD's rarely use AI generated ppt, they talk about their experience and those are good classes, but these sr, jrs and assistant or associate profs are abusing these models?
So does this happen in all other colleges?

Discussion Asked for a MEDPGcourse fee. Got told to rethink my life because I wouldn't take a sales call.
I recently enquired about a postgraduate medical course and simply asked for the course fee.
The organisation replied saying their team would call me. I politely responded that I couldn't take calls and asked if they could communicate via WhatsApp instead.
They told me their protocol couldn't be changed and that calls were mandatory. That's fair enough; companies can have their own processes.
At that point, I said "No worries, I opt out."
What happened next surprised me.
I was told they couldn't stop the call. When I repeated that I couldn't take calls, I received a message from the founder saying:
"If you cannot answer a call and decide your next 40 years of your career decisions today, then there serious planning needed for your end."
My original question about the course fee was never answered.
What struck me wasn't the phone-call requirement. It was the attitude.
We're in 2026. Many professionals prefer asynchronous communication because they're in clinics, meetings, operating theatres, different time zones, or simply don't like unsolicited sales calls. If a customer says they prefer text communication or chooses to opt out, shouldn't that be respected?
Am I overreacting, or is this an incredibly unprofessional way to respond to a prospective student who simply declined a phone call?

Discussion Karnataka is opening more and more medical colleges. Should MBBS students be worried about the future?
Hey guys, I’m from Karnataka and currently in my second year of MBBS. When I joined medical college, Karnataka had around 71 medical colleges, and now the number has increased to 75. It feels like new medical colleges are being established every year, and I’m worried about what this means for the future of doctors in the state.
For Karnataka domicile students, getting an MBBS seat through state counselling at ranks as high as 80,000, depending on the category, quota, and college, makes me wonder whether the increasing number of medical seats will eventually lead to an oversupply of doctors. Karnataka already produces around 15,000 medical graduates every year, and if the number of colleges continues to grow at this rate, we could have more than 90 medical colleges by the time I graduate. It sometimes feels like every politician wants to establish a medical college of their own. I’m genuinely concerned about whether the growing number of MBBS graduates will lead to increased competition for PG seats, government jobs, and decent salaries. Are we heading towards a situation where having an MBBS degree will no longer guarantee good career opportunities? Sometimes, I even joke that Karnataka might introduce a "Har Ghar Doctor Yojana" at this rate!
I’d like to hear from senior doctors and medical students: Am I overthinking this, or is the increasing number of medical colleges a genuine reason to worry about the future of MBBS graduates in Karnataka?

Question Grant Medical College, Mumbai
Need help from any intern or resident(medicine) from GMC Mumbai.
How is the department? Toxicity? Workload? Case variety? SS exposure in 2nd year? Being a non bmc college, does it have any disadvantages? Labs, investigations? CT/MRI?
Another option is bjmc Pune med. What is your opinion regarding this?

Vent / rant MBBS LIFE
Hi guys, ive recently joined mbbs after a drop
Thing is I didnt score amazing marks, so my family decided to join me through c category
But i feel really judged in class constantly
I feel like I dont belong in here and that im undeserving
I feel like I should've just done something else or taken another drop
I feel like I wasted all my parents money and their expectations on me, I feel like huge disappointment
I dont feel confident and im struggling to find the motivation to study even...
Im so stressed coz sometimes I struggle to answer basic questions about a subject that im asked
Im not okay and I really hope someone going through something similar can relate and help me
Thank you

Question How do I remove the fear of being wrong and embarrassed?
I am sorry you guys must have heard this question a thousand times in this subreddit, but I feel really dejected.
I am in final year. I am one of those students who studies prior coming to clinics. I don't like to come unprepared. But still, there are times where if I am not 100% of the answer, I won't answer the question and because of this i hesitate to answer certain questions eventhough it's on the tip of my tongue. I fear I might embarass myself in the off chance I am wrong.
A lot of my batchmates don't study. But still they answer the questions they know nothing about with full confidence. They don't care if they are wrong ig.
I am usually OK during one on one viva. But if its a group discussion or a group viva, I feel this pressure to not embarrass my self, so I don't answer questions eventhough I would probably be mostly right.
Same with clinics ig. If I don't 100% know the clinical examination of a system, I won't do it as I might embarass myself. I am much better now as I take cases these days but still.
How do I remove this fear of messing up and embarrassing myself?

Question Competency Pg in surgery
Hello everyone!
I’m considering taking General Surgery in this counselling and wanted to know what I should look for in a college except the salary and toxicity .
By the end of MS, what are the bare-minimum surgeries and procedures that every General Surgery graduate should be able to perform independently? For example, appendicectomy, cholecystectomy, hernioplasty, herniotomy, etc.
Current residents and recent graduates, please share your suggestions. It would really help me choose a college with good surgical exposure.
Thank you!

Are you satisfied?
Are you frustated?
Given a chance would you rethink yiur decision?
Be honest please.

Question Saw a patient today
So postings are going on and we saw this patient whose bp on electronic machine was 158/110 💀💀 and she said she never had hypertension. We thought she was lying but then the professor asked her if this always happens using electronic machines and she said yes. Then the professor asked for a manual bp check and the result was 136/85. How normal is this to happen? 😭
I am presuming the machines are calibrated a certain way to have this kind of result because the patient was obese as well

Discussion Girls in my hostel are excluding me what to do
I entered a gmc recently and have been quite unpopular among few hostellites. They don't seem to like me because often times I answer in class (ik this sounds stupid but this is literally how they justify me being a 'showoff bitch') and they all follow the stupid dress code seniors impose on us (aka ragging) whereas I don't since I don't want to. This is legit so childish they even go telling the seniors on me (like bhai itna kyu chaat rhe ho seniors ki) about what I wear each day live reporting 🫡
I have been officially allotted a hostel room but I stay there sometimes while i commute other times. These girls keep removing me from the hostel group. What to do in this situation.
