I designed and 3D printed a modular workshop storage system for my garage

I’ve been developing a modular workshop storage system called MODRA.
Instead of designing separate holders that each solve one small problem, I wanted to build a system where different accessories could share the same mounting interface.
The setup uses connected panels and segments, with accessories that can be repositioned as storage needs change.
My garage installation now includes tool holders, wrench racks, shelves, power tool storage and filament storage.
Everything is 3D printed, and the system is designed to be expanded with new accessories over time.
This is the current result after many iterations of designing, printing and testing.

Garage Makeover

Making over a 3 car garage. Planning on lighter color walls, grey slatwall, poly flake flooring. I have existing black cabinets/toolbox from New age And 4-5k lighting. I could use some opinions from people more talented than I.

Wall: Sherwin Williams First Star on ceiling and walls, still deciding the slatwall system. I like Proslat XL, but I fear the grey may be too dark for 50-75% of the wall. Anybody have any experience with how dark the grey proslat XL is?

Floor: polyaspiric. The shortlist is Torginol “Fog” or ”Nightfall”. Fog has a good blue-grey, Nightfall has a good amount of darkness to it. I have a mockup with First Star paint and Grey slatwall and either floor coloring. Any opinions on darker or lighter floors?

Thanks for your opinions.

Would you add a polyspartic topcoat or leave it?

I have a 20 year old garage floor but the paint is actually adhered really well. Only a few minor chips here and there and some stains. I tested a few areas and pretty sure I can get 95% of the stains up with degreaser and some magic erasure once I get my garage emptied.

So I was thinking just clean it and be done but then I thought it may be mote prone to new staining because it looks like it was just a 1 part epoxy to begin with. Maybe best to add a top coat of a colormatched polyspartic rather than a clear coat?

I understand I would need to lightly sand the current cost to get any new top cost to bond.

Would adding a top coat ensure many more years of durability or do I run the risk of the new top coat not binding properly?

Mechanical Advise- Garage Build

Hey folks. First time caller..I'm in the process of painting my paneling, then I'll dryfall the ceiling black. The board (circled in blue) is the future location of my minisplit evaporator.

Question- Has any one installed a Mr Cool unit? I'm considering. I have the mitsubishi system in my office and love it. Top quality. But do you go with a top quality for your shop? Does the garage/shop reduce the life of the unit? How do you maintain the unit in such a dusty and harsh environment?

Any suggestions on alternate conditioning for a garage/shop?

...Thanks, I'll hand up and listen....and respond if needed.

Putting everything on one wall made my single bay easier to use

Post image

I reorganized my single bay wash area and focused on the wall near the garage door. The pressure washer and shop vac used to be stored in different places. Every job started with moving both machines, connecting everything, and pulling the hoses over to the car. I also had to move them when switching between the exterior and interior. Both machines are now mounted on the wall. I pull out the pressure hose for the exterior and retract it when I am done. Then I pull out the vacuum hose for the interior. Neither machine needs to move. The gun, tips, and foam cannot stay beside the pressure washer. Vacuum attachments are stored on the other side. Clean towels and polishing pads stay in a cabinet. Used towels and wet brushes are kept separate. The work itself is not much faster, but setup and cleanup are easier. There are no machines or loose hoses on the floor, so moving around the car is easier too. I still need a drip tray and a better route for the hoses so they do not cross. Other than that, the wall setup has worked well.

Phase 3 of My 50’ x 65’ RV Garage Build. Time for a Mezzanine, Man Cave, and Workshop!

Thumbnail

I’m getting ready to start Phase 3 of my 50’ x 65’ RV garage build and thought I’d share what I’m planning.
I’ve been using the garage for about four years now, and one of the biggest advantages of waiting to finish everything is that I’ve learned exactly how I use the space, and just as importantly, how I don’t!

Rather than building everything out from day one, I’ve had time to figure out what works, what doesn’t, and what would make the space more functional.

Phase 3 (Last photo is the concept) will focus on adding a 50’ x 20’ mezzanine across the back of the garage, creating approximately 1,000 square feet of additional usable space.
Here’s the current plan:

Downstairs:
Dedicated 3D printing workshop with glass storefront doors
Hexagon LED ceiling lighting in the print shop
Organized storage with heavy-duty shelving
Central staircase to the mezzanine
Plenty of open floor space for the RV and vehicles
Epoxy floors throughout

Upstairs:
Home brewing area with stainless brewing equipment
Kitchenette and bar
Man cave with comfortable seating and a large TV
Full bathroom with shower
Additional storage

The mezzanine will likely be constructed with engineered wood framing, with structural support columns concealed within the downstairs walls wherever possible.

I’m going for a modern industrial look that works with the existing steel building.

The pictures are conceptual renderings of what I’m envisioning. I’m still refining the design before moving into construction.

And for all the recliner snipers out there: Before the comments start, remember this subreddit is called Garage Porn! I’m not posting to show off or compete with anyone. I’m sharing because I enjoy seeing what others have built, getting ideas from people who’ve done similar projects, and hopefully inspiring someone else who’s dreaming about their own garage.

I’m retired, I’ve worked hard for what I have, and now it’s time to enjoy life and have some fun building the things I’ve always wanted.

Not everyone’s garage needs to look the same, and that’s what makes this subreddit interesting!

I’d genuinely appreciate ideas, suggestions, and lessons learned from anyone who’s tackled something similar.

Now, what am I missing? What would you add or change?

Having my garage finished, worth an extra 2k to get it vaulted?

*after talking with the builder about ventilation I've decided to go flat ceiling with attic storage space. Doesn't look as cool but seems more usable and safer for my roof. It wasn't going to be a proper vaulted ceiling anyways.

What are your thoughts?

I want to upgrade my lights to can lights with the night light option so its not bright ad hell for watching fights. What do you guys think I should go. The ceiling will be finished (drywall) should I go with 9 6in cands for 12 4in cans? Thoughts?

Finally finished…? How much hate will the lights get?

I think I’m done for now. I’m considering a mini-split installation but I think I’ll wait and see. I did everything except the floor - it had been bothering me for 5 years when the previous owner did the worst possible DIY epoxy job and spilled paint everywhere.

Started about 3 months ago, including insulating the garage door, adding the lights, and throwing up a dart board. I had considered paneling the entire wall but went for speed and efficiency and I think it turned out great. I built a mirror frame to match with the leftover wood planks and a spare mirror that was laying around, although I still need to mount the mirror.

What are everyone’s thoughts? Anything I can put in for Calvin the dog? He helped the entire time and I think this is his favorite room in the house.

Advice

Post image

So I built this little section of shelving to slide my tool box under and still have storage up and around it, to the right of it I’m going to build haxman’s version of the sliding bookshelf cabinet/storage. What I need advice on is what type of solution for actual containment for the shelves pictured. As you can see, while large, they end up just being so messy cause they’re almost too deep. What have you guys done for neatly storing things in larger shelves.

Thanks!
