Discussion Building more restrained processing for Galaxy photos. Curious what you think.
Hey everyone! I’m building Silver Halide, an Android camera app with a milder processing approach, and I’d love some honest feedback from people who shoot on Samsung phones.
I like a lot of what Galaxy cameras produce, but sometimes I wish the processing was a little less aggressive. I’m experimenting with a look that aims to retain texture and a sense of light and shade, without lifting every shadow or making every color pop.
Under the hood, our SDK takes a DNG, develops it using the file’s white balance and camera color information, then applies our own tone, color, noise reduction and subtle detail processing before exporting a JPEG.
The examples labelled “Natural Processing” show the current alpha look. It’s still being actively built and improved. One limitation I’m working on is scenes with a dark foreground against a bright sky, where our version can leave the subject too dark. I like shadows staying shadowy, but I’m still figuring out where that becomes lost detail rather than atmosphere.
In the app, supported phones can keep the original DNG and stock processed JPEG alongside our version, so you can return to the originals if you prefer a different result. That’s three images per shot for now.
Which version do you prefer? I’m especially curious about the foliage, shaded areas and indoor shot. Does our version keep a pleasing sense of depth, or lose too much in the shadows? Are there details or colors Samsung handles better? Either preference is useful feedback.
If you’d like beta access, DM me your Galaxy model and the kinds of photos you usually take. I’m looking for testers who can help with different scenes and lighting, especially indoor light, backlit subjects, people, pets and low light. I’ll confirm device compatibility and share access as testing opens up.

Pics and Vids over-saturating - how to stop the post pic render?
My pics and vids are WAY over saturated when the phone renders the image after I've taken it. Same with when I film. I've tried resetting images, I have AI assist off, and all beauty filters off also (side note - it still smooths my face? Why).
Any help with how to stop/fix this would be great.
It's blowing the colours out so it loses detail.

I'm just a novice really, and getting into gardening, so just want to take pics of my flowers 🥺🌸
