BE NICE - Why “Be Nice” Is a Rule – And What Happens If You’re Not

It is a new rule. It should not have to be.

Toxic behavior will get you banned.

SCAR Enthusiasts,

This sub is all about FN SCARs, sharing knowledge, showing off builds, and fostering a community where we can all geek out over one of the coolest platforms out there. But to keep this place awesome, we need to talk about something important: why being nice is a rule.

Why “Be Nice”?

This subreddit isn’t just a forum; it’s a community. When you post, comment, or engage here, you're interacting with real people who share your interest in SCARs. Everyone’s here to learn, share, and enjoy. Being nice ensures that:

  1. Everyone feels welcome – Whether you’re a seasoned SCAR user or a newcomer, kindness encourages participation and keeps the vibe positive.
  2. We stay on-topic – Snarky comments, insults, or trolling don’t contribute to the conversation and can derail useful discussions.
  3. The sub grows – A positive community attracts more like-minded people, enriching everyone’s experience.

What Happens If You’re Not Nice?

We have a low-tolerance policy for rudeness, harassment, or bullying. If you can’t follow the simple rule to be kind:

  1. First offense: You’ll get a warning (if it’s minor).
  2. Repeat offenses: You’ll be banned. No second chances, no “I didn’t mean it.”

It’s not about silencing anyone – it’s about protecting the community. We want this sub to be a place where people are excited to share and learn, not afraid of getting flamed or attacked.

TL;DR

This sub is about SCARs, not being mean. Be nice, stay on-topic, and contribute constructively, or risk losing your place here. Let’s keep this community as legendary as the rifles we love!

Stay sharp,
Your Mods

Steps for drilling out Scar 15P deflector screws?

For anyone who has done this, can you please explain how you did it and what size bits you used? Unfortunately despite buying Wiha bits, heating with both a micro torch and an industrial size soldering iron many minutes, one of the screws stripped and I might give up on the remaining one and may also drill it out.

I am also looking at gunsmith options so if you don’t have advice on how to do it myself, feel free to drop a gunsmith rec too as I might go that way (even better if they’re in Houston area).

I have a drill press and a good bits and have generally done most of my own gun work so am not a novice though recognize it is a risk.

Thank you.

Barrel lengths

Post image
14 Upvotes

Looking to shorten these muskets down a bit. I will be shipping them off to u/eMGunslinger for the chops. Looking to have the suppressor mounts as flush to the rail extensions as possible. Any words of wisdom from anybody who has the same components? Ideally The 17 would be cut down to 14ish and P&W, the 16 cut down to 10” and SBR. Is it possible to send loose barrel on its own to be cut, get exact measurements for form 1, then get approved form 1 before taking possession? (Form 1 still required in my state)

17:
Midwest Industries Picatinny rail extension
Surefire 7.62 muzzle brake
Surefire 7.62 RC2 suppressor

16:
Parker Mountain Machine Picatinny rail extention
Surefire 5.56 muzzle brake
Surefire 5.56 RC2 supressor

SCAR Picture I think my SCAR has achieved its final iteration.

After testing different setups I think I’ve finally achieved my ideal setup. Initially was setup with a 1-6 VCOG, RC3, and a vert grip. Decided the gun was too heavy so ditched the RC3 for a polo K. Around the same time the vert grip drama was going on so I decided to try shooting without and it turns out I do shoot a little better without and it’s still comfortable enough so I tossed some rail covers in for heat insulation. Wanted to try out dots and magnifiers to shave more weight and I’m liking it a lot but may swap back to the VCOG. Lastly I missed the low back pressure of the RC3 but wanted something less heavy and settled on the infinity 556k.

Question New to suppressors need help

I finally purchased a scar 17s and I am looking to run it suppressed with the HUXWRX flow can.

Never owned a suppressed gun so I’m trying to make sure I’m not missing anything in the process before I jump in.

From what I can tell online I need to buy:

-HUXWRX flow 762 TI

-HUXWRX muzzle break device for 762

-Need to bring it all to a gunsmith to have them install the muzzle break device ? (Don’t think I have the tools needed to do this on my own or the trust in myself to do it right)

Is that everything?

Thanks for any help in advance.

Question SCAR 15p Bolt Question

Post image
7 Upvotes

For those that have recently bought the SCAR 15Ps (and possibly suppressed them) - how’s your bolt holding up?

I’ve put a few hundred rounds down range and was out with a buddy this past weekend and let him play with my 15P with the OCL 7.62 on it. He starting having some malfunctions (mostly failures to feed) and we tried switching the end caps in case it was a pressure issue but still have the occasional issue, using both subs and supers to test it out. He couldn’t have fired more than 20-30 rounds.

I noticed the gas setting was in the “unsuppressed” mode and a quick flip of the selector and the rifle was functioning perfectly. He was nervous he broke it, but shooting under 30 rounds, I’d be surprised if he did.

Does this bolt look normal? I never noticed it before, but think it’s just fine.

I’m trying to live the “it’s a tool, it’ll be fine” life but man, I love to baby things lol.

Edit: sorry all, this was just a quick post range trip pic before I got a chance to clean. I didn’t think to take a disassembled pic, but that mark circled is the only blemish found.

Question Scar 15P - Brass Deflector Hex Size? Is it 2MM? Any advice for removing these screws?

Hoping to replace rear aluminum deflector with the polymer 16S one but between the Allen wrenches I have the 2MM fits the best but still has a lot of wiggle. I’ve heard these strip easily so trying to find the best wrench or bits to use. Any suggestions on how to remove this?

Thank you.

Question 16 Ambi Bolt Catch

It looks like the gen 2 16 has a ambi bolt catch/release. Do you think the gen 1 16 could be modified to accept the ambi catch/release?

Anyone run a PVS-27 on a SCAR 20? TNVC says its good to go, but a little nerve wracking throwing one on there when Ive got other options for it. No need for any unforced errors.

I finally bought a SCAR 17s and I'm not really familiar with LPVOs, I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good midrange model as I plan to shoot up to 300 yards and also up close.

Getting two new barrels. What lengths would you get?

Post image
18 Upvotes

I'm working with Cole at Deadshot Barrels (great guy!) on a new barrel for my Gen 1 FN SCAR 17s. I'm looking at more compact lengths (<=16"), and I'm also interested in trying out a barrel from a high-end manufacturer to see what kind of accuracy I can get.

I purchased a 30" blank from Krieger and it's on it's way to Cole at Deadshot. From this 30" barrel, I can apparently make two barrels, as long as their total length <= ~29". For example, he said he could make two 14.5" barrels.

So, if you were getting two new barrels, what lengths would you want and why?

  • Two 13"?
  • A 13" and a 14.5"?
  • Two 14.5"?
  • A 13" and a 16"?

It's interesting that Knights Armament went with 14.5" for their SR-25. They seem to argue that it's a better length than 13", but I'm wondering if it's really just a better fit/more reliable for their gas system.
