New here? Start with this

Somebody in this sub knows a story from almost every one of Texas's 254 counties. Last month about 3,100 of us left roughly 34,000 comments, and a lot of them started because a stranger posted a photo nobody could place.

Your first move is small. Reply to one post today. A question counts, and so does "my grandmother lived near there."

After that

  1. Skim the rules, explained. It takes two minutes, and each rule comes with the reason we have it.
  2. Pick a user flair. It tells people where you're from, which helps when someone has a question about your part of the state.
  3. Add a comment to today's thread.
  4. When you've got something of your own, post it. The caption templates do half the work.

Replying is the easiest way in, and it's how most people find out they have something to say.

One thread every day

We write the prompt so you don't have to.

  • Monday: Mystery Monday. An old photo, building or object nobody can identify.
  • Tuesday: Tall Tale Tuesday. Your town's best legend or ghost story.
  • Wednesday: Best Defense Wednesday. Pick something in Texas that's overrated or underrated and defend it.
  • Thursday: Then & Now Thursday. An old photo next to the same spot today.
  • Friday: Shoebox Friday. A photo or story from your family's archive.
  • Saturday: Road Trip Saturday. The best stop you've found on a Texas drive.
  • Sunday: Sunday Plate. Your favorite BBQ or Tex-Mex spot and what to order.
