Subreddit / Meta Subreddit 2026-2027 Mod Team Hiring

Hello, lovely community!

Another year, another Eurovision season, and now with Eurovision Song Contest Asia in the mix!

With the continuing global expansion of the contest, we would like our community's mod team to better reflect the variety of nations taking part. To that end, we are opening our 2026-2027 Eurovision season hiring process today.

While we are especially looking for candidates based in timezones in Asia, the Americas, and Oceania, all are still welcome to apply!

What does it entail?

Moderating is a volunteer, part-time position in which you'll help manage the day-to-day operations of this community. No experience is required, and most of the work is not too different from your regular experience of browsing Reddit. Unless you decide to help out with larger, optional behind-the-scenes projects, anyway. ;)

How much time do I need to commit?

We get it, life is busy. We do expect you to check in every once in a while to help out, but you'll set your own "hours". As we're fond of saying, real life always comes first! That being said, it would probably only be slightly more time than you already spend on Reddit as is.

How do I know if I'm selected?

We will go through applications on a rolling basis and will reach out to you if selected! Many people do not handle rejection well, so we do not generally send out notices that you were not selected. If you were not selected in a previous year's hiring round, you are still welcome to try applying again this year!

Please do note that all mods we "hire" start out on a temporary trainee basis to test if they're a good fit and learn the ropes first before they become a full mod.

Where do I apply?

Right here! It should only take about 10-15 minutes to do so.

What if I have a question?

You can ask in the comments below or write to us via modmail, and we'll get back to you as soon as possible.

Thank you all, but especially to those who apply! 😄

You can see French dominating in the beginning and English slowly taking over. It's interesting how recently we've seen an uptick in non-English songs but still only 3 fully non-English winners.

📰 News Eurovision Asia hit by production chaos

Thumbnail
eurovisionworld.com
221 Upvotes

Eurovision Asia faces major production changes less than a month before its first final.

According to Eurovisionworld’s source, a $1 million budget cut has left the international production team without control over key decisions.

The Thai production partner is replacing international technical companies, introducing new stage and lighting designs, and bringing in a local broadcast director and crew, the source says. The changes have the backing of the owners of Voxovation, the company organising Eurovision Asia.

#Who is producing Eurovision Asia?

Eurovision Asia has four key partners: EBU, Voxovation, S2O Productions and Channel 3.

EBU licenses the Eurovision format to Voxovation, which leads the development, production and commercialisation of Eurovision Asia. Its producers were also behind American Song Contest in 2022.

A controlling stake in Voxovation is held by entrepreneur RJ Phillips, who also owns Zoop, Eurovision Asia’s main sponsor.

S2O Productions is the Thai production partner, while Channel 3 is the host broadcaster.

Eurovisionworld’s source describes a breakdown in the relationship between the international production team and the Thai production partner over the budget cut.

#Local teams take over

International technical companies are being replaced by local firms, with Thailand’s Media Vision taking over lighting, video, rigging, sound and pyrotechnics. New set and lighting designs are also being introduced, alongside a local TV director and broadcast team.

Much of the international technical team will no longer travel to Bangkok. The source says no one within the production team has full control over the project any longer.

"No one within the production team has full control over the project any longer"

A smaller international team is still expected to travel to Thailand to work on the show’s content, graphics and sound. Christer Björkman, Head of Contest, may also travel with the contest producer to help preserve the competition.

#Criticism of the EBU

According to Eurovisionworld’s source, the changes have also prompted strong criticism within the production team over a perceived lack of support from the EBU.

The source says the EBU approved the budget cut before asking a key member of the international team to return to Thailand to help protect the quality of the show.

#Co-founder stepped down in August

The production dispute follows an earlier change at the top of Voxovation.

In August, the company’s CEO and co-founder, Peter Settman resigned as CEO, less than three months before Eurovision Asia.

No connection between his resignation and the dispute described in the email has been established.

📊 Results / Statistics Fairytale and YouTube: A statistical anomaly in real time worth celebrating

Thumbnail
youtube.com
39 Upvotes

Guys. On 9th October 2026, the Eurovision Youtube Channel had released this video:

Eurovision Top 20: Most Watched – September 2026

And as expected, Fairytale by Alexander Rybak came #1, dethroning Bangaranga. People like me, Hardcore fans of 'Fairytale' are stoked.

The average fandom is already posting comments like :
'The GOAT is back at number 1, lol, he's unbeatable, long live Alexander xD' (Translated)
'Somebody granma must stop playing fairytale'
'The true heralding of the end of the 2026 season: Fairytale back in 1st place!'
'Not Alexander Rybak AGAIN'
'And Fairytale is back at number one . I called it . In the year 4026 Fairytale will still be number one.'

You get the idea. It is always a mix of admiration and joy or fatigue and frustration.

Beyond the subjective tastes, I wanted to know more. If a song is dated, bad, or inflated for votes (I heard that is what ESC fans speculate happened for Israel in 2024 and 2025; IDK, I have no opinion on that), surely it would not have a long run over a year or two.

I went back. To January 2022. January 2022 to September 2026. 57 Months. Saw each video (More like sped up and fast forwarded the videos till I got the rank of Fairytale) and mapped the rankings of Fairytale in a Spreadsheet.

The summary of the statistics is absolutely insane:

Out of the 57 months, guess how many times Fairytale was at top 20?

54 times. 54/57. 3 Times (May-22, Mar-23 and May-23) outside top 20. 94% of the time, it was top 20 all along.

That one statistics should be an anomaly. But there is more.

After May-23, i.e., from Jun-23, It has never dropped below Rank 20. For 40 consecutive months.

40 consecutive months, it was in Top 20. For reference, It started with the end of Eurovision 2023, and it survived the contestants of 2024, 2025 and 2026.

Scratch That!! Not Survive. Obliterated. The new entries didn't stand a chance.

Out of those 40 months, guess how many times it was in top 10? Let alone Top 20?

38 times. 38/40 Times it was at Top 10 (Rank 10 to Rank 1).

When did it drop to Rankings 11-20? May-24 (Rank No. 14) and May-25 (Rank No. 16)

Out of those 38 times it was top 10, 30 times it was top 5. It was in the top pack of most viewed videos, let it be Grand Final Performance, National Final Performance, Official Music Videos, etc.

And of those 30 times, 11 times it was Numero Uno. #1. The king.

It held this title for 5 consecutive months on two separate occasions (Sep-24 to Jan-25 and Dec-25 to Apr-26). And Now in Sep-26, it has become #1 again.

The only time it ever dipped was in May of each year, when the Eurovision Final takes place and the YouTube is flooded with the songs of new entrants. But Within 2 months, it rebounds to Top 5.

In Total, From Jan-22 to Sep-26, It was in the Top 5 39 times out of 57 (39/57). Two out of every three months.

LET THAT SINK IN!!

Also, I realize that when Fairytale's ranking in May is way low or out of the Top 20, it usually means that that particular Eurovision year was good. 2023 was a monster of a year, with Tattoo, Cha Cha Cha, Queen of Kings, having their own fandoms. But as the years grew weaker, as in 2025 and 2026, the ranking of Fairytale remained higher. Most probably I speculate, is because the Eurovision community and fandom are not attracted by the new songs and instead find solace in the old.

These are just rankings. I wish I had the actual numbers. Also, after doing this for fairytale, I started to wonder what other songs of the past are making such waves. I saw Moldova 2010, Ukraine 2007 in one or two videos, Even Finland 2006 a couple of times, but never seen a pre-2019 song so consistently top the rankings. Post 2019, I saw Croatia 2024, Italy 2021 a few times, even Sweden 2023, a few times, but most of them were in their particular year, or at the most, spilled over to next year and never survived more than two years.

I wanted to know which song has such longevity like Fairytale has. I would love EBU or someone else to publish these rankings for the fan favorites like Moldova 2010, Spain 1990, Ukraine 2007, etc. (to name a few), to get a sense of perennial hits that stood the test of time. I request other geeks to do the same exercise for their favorite songs and songs that deserve undisputed respect and love in the fandom.

As for some frustrating comments like 'Tell your grandma to stop playing Fairytale on loop' or 'Does Alexander own a bot farm to increase views' or 'Why is Fairytale No. 1, It is not that good',

Just accept two things:

  1. It is a bloody good song. You may get fatigued due to overexposure. But there are still fans who see this video and performance multiple times a day. It is a dopamine thing. And it hits the sweet spot for many that they come back again and again.
  2. There is no way the views are coming only through bots/ loops by old grandmas or nostalgic Europeans. I am myself a proof that this song has transcended European boundaries into international YouTube consumption. I am from India, I got to know this song in April 2026 and I never looked back. I hear it every day. I contribute, just like multiple new viewers from Asia, Americas and Africa, to the new views that has pushed Fairytale's total views to over 150M.

I write this post for people to get perspective, of how rare such sustained momentum is for any song, let alone one which is 17 years old and is criticized by many as 'dated' or 'cringey' or 'theatrical'.

I write this post to share the joy of seeing a phenomenon re-emerge real time and sustain momentum purely based on consumption and word of mouth expansion (including algorithmic expansion by YouTube, a direct byproduct of the increasing views).

I write this post for those who are dismissive of this song, or believe this song is overhyped: An overhyped song would crash into nothingness. A song to sustain such momentum over 57 months is not overhype, it is organic sustainable and growing fanbase that no corporate backing , millions of dollars/euros could buy.

To the statistical geeks: I wish someone expands on this or maybe give me links to greater works by other geeky fans who analyzed Eurovision to death. Would love to know more tidbits and statistics.

To the entire fandom: Celebrate that a song you loved so dearly since 2009 is breaking barriers and spreading across the world, introducing Non-Europeans what Eurovision is and could be.

PEACE!!

🪩 National Final / Selection Germany is planning a broadcaster alliance for 2028 National Selection

Thumbnail
dwdl.de
64 Upvotes

tl;dr: Germany is thinking to revamp its 2028 national selection by starting an alliance between ARD (responsible public broadcaster for Eurovision) and others, including RTL Germany (who were involved in 2025) and ProSiebenSat1, with others also invited to join.

Translation as the source is only available in German:

“Great things cast their shadows ahead: ARD Programming Director Christine Strobl is promoting a major broadcaster alliance for the Eurovision Song Contest preliminary round, in which public and private broadcasters will join forces. RTL and ProSiebenSat.1 have expressed openness to the idea.

Will the German preliminary round for the Eurovision Song Contest become a joint effort among the major TV networks in the future—even larger than the one-time collaboration between ARD and RTL? If ARD Programming Director Christine Strobl has her way, that could very well be the future. At the TV summit during the Munich Media Days on Thursday morning, she advocated for expanding cooperation with private media companies—and explicitly brought up the Eurovision Song Contest in this context.

“I still dream about it, to be perfectly honest,” Strobl explained, referring to broader cooperation. She noted that they had already worked well with RTL on the ESC. Now she hopes “that we can make this partnership even bigger than it is today.” Her vision is to spread the responsibility for the German preliminary round across multiple partners and “work together to make something really big out of it.” This is more than just a thought experiment. “We’re working on it, and maybe it’ll work out,” Strobl said. However, she did not mention any concrete plans or a timeline.

Support for the idea came directly from RTL. Head of Content Inga Leschek recalled their previous collaboration on the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest preliminary round, which RTL was able to host in cooperation with ARD. “That was the best partnership we’ve had in the last two years,” Leschek gushed. She said they were very grateful that ARD had entrusted the ESC brand to the commercial broadcaster. She, too, expressed remarkable confidence that they would soon be able to resume this collaboration. “We’re confident that we’ll be able to pick up where we left off soon. Sharing is caring. If ProSieben wants to join in, I certainly won’t say no.”

Henrik Pabst, Chief Content Officer at ProSiebenSat.1 and Leschek’s seatmate at the TV Summit during the Medientage München, responded candidly: “We won’t rule it out if the talks are constructive and the outcome is a positive sign in the end. Then, of course, we’d be happy to be part of it.” He adds: “Let’s talk about this calmly.” In any case, the discussions are likely to center on a national alliance for the 2028 ESC preliminary round, since preparations for 2027—with SWR taking the lead within the ARD—have long been underway.

In any case, there have been surprisingly optimistic comments from several quarters regarding an unusual arrangement: a national Eurovision Song Contest preliminary round in which the major German broadcasting groups would jointly select the German act for the Eurovision Song Contest. It remains unclear whether ZDF would also want to participate. No one from Mainz attended the TV summit, but Strobl’s explicitly open invitation can presumably be assumed to apply to ZDF as well.

This isn’t the first time a major alliance for the Eurovision Song Contest preliminary round has been discussed. As early as 2024, there was a more or less confidential exchange among several partners regarding a joint, cross-broadcaster concept for the German preliminary round of the Eurovision Song Contest. It was never implemented; instead, Stefan Raab took charge of the “ESC initiative” within the ARD-RTL partnership.“

🪀 Junior Eurovision Clarification on JESC televote

I would like to ask you a question regarding Jesc's televoting.

For the third year in a row I will be following Junior Eurovision, and consequently I will vote this time too.

Every year my brothers and I vote for our favorites, but here's the point.

I vote with my phone country A, country B and country C, and send the votes.

After that (always using my phone) my brothers also vote for their favorites.

My question is: are the next two votes still recorded? Do they replace the previous vote?

I don't know if I explained it well, but let me know how it works exactly :)

Eurovision Asia Weird twang during ESCA livestreams

I've been watching the Eurovision Asia National Final livestreams over the past weeks, and I've noticed that the audio often has a weird twang, a kind of vibrating flanger effect which detunes the audio a bit. Has anyone else experienced this during these livestreams? I'm trying to figure out if it's a problem om my end. The thing is, I've been unable to replicate the weird sound when playing other YouTube livestreams and such. Thank you in advance!

edit: I should clarify that I watched the streams on the Eurovision YouTube channel.

💬 Discussion Should-have-been logos in place of United By Music

what do you think are the should-have-been slogans for 2024-2027 rather than United By Music?

Mine are

2024: Write the Story (based off We Write Story from ESC2013 final)

2025: Celebrate the Vintage (a reference to Switzerland hosting the first ever ESC and vintage culture and art)

2026: 70 years of glamour (a reference to musicians and fashion icons from Austria and the 70th ESC)

2027: We Love You (a reference to Dustin The Turkey’s Roll call in Irelande Douze Points where Bulgaria was the first named country in the roll call).

What do you think the slogans should have been or should be. Try and reference something to do with the country hosting.

The first stage of the Luxembourg Song Contest 2027 took place over the weekend. This year, artists were not required to submit an original song and could instead perform a cover.

A total of 80 artists performed in front of the jury over the weekend, with just 12 selected to progress to the next stage . Following their auditions, the contestants received a phone call on Saturday evening inviting them to return to RTL City on Sunday. It was there that they discovered they had made it through to the next round, before immediately taking part in a workshop.

The 12 artists are:

  • Maya Maunet
  • Perrine Thomas
  • Carmen Luisa
  • KIM
  • Gaïa
  • Patricia Venâncio
  • Debbie M
  • Jaya
  • Marco Misolic
  • Clement Lerat
  • Layso Roy
  • Hugo One

The next stage of the competition will see the selected artists take part in a so-called “Pairing Workshop” in November, where they will have the opportunity to find suitable songs through a collaborative creative process. Song submissions for the Luxembourg Song Contest 2027 remain open until 29 October.

Eurovision Asia em tien staging ideas

Hi, all
I love to give my fav ESC entries staging ideas so I decided to do an Êm Tien one, as it’s my 2nd in ESCA.

Tien is wearing a headpiece microphone.
Starts off, the stage fades in, and it shows a budding flower and a sunrise at the background. The stage is a periwinkle / lavender atmosphere. The stage is absolutely covered in fog. The dancers all wear gold, circulars head pieces, with flowy gold dresses on. Toc Tien is wearing a larger, flowy gold dress.

The chorus begins, and the atmosphere shifts to a pale orange colour, and the sun has rose above tien, and the lily is beginning to bloom. Smoke fires out of the stage. Tien’s dancers all take the gold circular head pieces off and cover Tien, while she takes off her dress before the dance break, revealing a shorter gold dress.

The dancers disperse, dramatically revealing her outfit change, as the atmosphere changes to blue, but flickering white and orange, while Tien does a dance break. The flower dramatically blooms in the background for this part.

In the second verse, the atmosphere darkens and goes gloomy and violet. Fog surrounds the stage, as the dancers do an intimate routine on the floor, as Tien gradually gets up.

Fire will begin shoot dramatically out of the stage, and the camera will pan across Tien’s face. She will wink into the camera.

On the rise up to the final beat drop, the camera will pan across the whole arena to allow Tien to do another costume change, revealing a gold leotard. All of her dancers will do the same, revealing red leotards.

On the “mwah” on the dance break, the camera will be on Tien’s face, and dramatically zoom out to reveal the whole stage, which would be red at this point, allowing Tien and her dancers to do their dance break. Fire will begin to appear where possible, and the atmosphere will be flashing red and black. The lily depiction would be beginning to multiply. The atmosphere stays red for the last singing part of the song, where her dancers will use their headpieces to make it look as if Tien has gold wings. There will be fireworks at the very end.

🌳 ESC in the Wild Fly on the Wings of Love referenced in Brawl Stars

The newest Brawl Stars brawler, Vince, has a voice line that references the song Fly on the Wings of Love (Denmark 2000). I found this out while casually playing with him and getting absolutely JUMPSCARED when i heard a familiar tune in a completely unrelated game LOL
