An unexpected keeper. IGC 1959 LP Reissue
A little more context.
I found an Epiphone Greeny I absolutely loved but had plans to do some pickup swapping and changing the Grover tuners to the locking style.
Eventually I started seeing these husks on eBay and with the spare parts I was sitting on I figured I was just a handful of hardware away from building another LP.
In walks this 59 reissue with a repaired headstock. Recently did some super glue and sanding repairs and decided this was the perfect project body to work on.
Bored out the headstock for the Grovers, freshened up my soldering and learned to do a 50s wiring, tried out a set of 498t/490r and eventually swapped to a set of Burstbucker 1 and 2.
Needless to say the amount of work I put into this guitar has given it a special place on my rack. Just moved up to primo slinkies and have it setup for Eb tuning. Messing with it Ive learned a lot about setting the action and I feel like the intonation is sounding solid in the higher frets.
Only negative thing to say is that while this guitar beat out the Greeny which I ended up parting ways with. There's still a noticeable difference in quality compared to something like a modern Gibson standard though for me the playability difference is really only felt in the higher frets. Something about my Gibson and PRS have just a fraction of more space, it must be the fret wire.
