Bad Time For Casuals
I've always loves TES:Legends, it was my favorite digital TCG and I've been so happy to finally get it back. But I'd never consider myself a 'top tier' player even back in it's heyday. Still, I could win the occasional game at the lower tier of the rankings by being matched up against someone else who was just as limited in collection, ability, or both as I was. Yeah, I'd lose to a sweat/gamerchair or whatever on occasion, but I didn't feel bad about it because it wasn't the majority of matches.
With Legends:Reborn giving EVERY PLAYER acess to EVERY CARD right off the bat, I find myself going up against decks/netdecks that are overtuned, win with recursive combos/'double x effects, their entire decks being made up of 'premium/monthly reward' cards that even the sweatiest players didn't have full sets of back when the game was live. It's ruined any idea of progression and leaving me feeling like I don't have means of learning to do any better, since I can't test out/tune my decks against players to learn their strengths and weaknesses, and improve my own play without getting utterly obliterated every match without coming away with any lessons besides 'they played nothing but the most broken cards in the entire game'. It's like going to Friday Night Magic, except every single person there is a nationally-ranked player with decks pulled entirely from the ban list.
I get it, the people who wanted the game back the most were probably already top-tier players, and that's the audience TESL:Reborn was built to cater to. But the learning curve feels like a cliff I'm never going to be able to reach even the midway point of with the amount of time I have to devote to the game. Obviously I'm still having fun playing through the various lore stories and the solo arena, and I'm grateful to have it back in any form, but it's just frustrating.
