Hello, anyone got informations about eagletone double Basses? I can’t find anything on internet. I buy it cheap, it was painted in black (made like That I gues), I think the 10 is the year of production 2010, and that’s obviously plywood.

Setup/Equipment Setup for Tempera Hybrid Oak?

I recently ordered a used set of the Tempera Hybrid Oaks, and am currently set up with Spirocore Weich mostly playing jazz, lots of arco during practice. Pretty standard 5mm at G, 8mm at E. The Spiros sound great, but I would really prefer lower tension. I’ve seen mixed comments on whether I’ll need to make some nut/fingerboard adjustments or not, any insight from those who have made a similar switch?

Instruments Bodyparts for an NS-design EUB

I am sorry if EUB-related questions are out of line here. I tried to figure out, but couldn't.

The question itself is this: I am certain there is someone somewhere who makes, like, shoulders of the upper bout and heel to be attached to an NS-design's EUB (which is basically like a long neck with a mounting thread to attach a stand or a peg to. Does anyone know of this kind of thing? I honestly googled, like, a lot... If you have seen both an NS-design WAV and a Yamaha Silent Bass, you'd know what I mean. The manufacturer themselves make only a kind of a wooden block thingie that needs to be glued to the back of the neck to indicate the heel position, but you need to both find the position and even sand it yourself to make a proper joint. All that after paying, like $250 for a piece of wood.

I honestly can't find place for an acoustic bass, however much I want it. A new Yamaha is a bit pricey, I think, and there are no used ones within reach currently

Instruments 5 string tips?

I'm normally a 4 string upright player, but I'm the dedicated 5 string player for Beethoven 6. I'm having a tough time moving the bow long enough to not just shake the string in the sixteenth note section of the 4th movement. I can play it fine in a slower tempo, but in actual tempo my bow either just glides over the string with this weird indistinct sound of the note, or my bow just moves the string with it. I have tried another rosin, but it still just doesn't sound good. Does anyone have any tips?

edit: just to clarify, no one in my section has a C extension, hence the 5 string

Bows Am I crazy or is this way too loose?

I switched from cello to DB for my orchestra and decided to treat myself to a custom coda bow. This is what it looks like at maximum tightness. I know that’s about where it should be but at maximum? Am I nuts or should I send it back to be looked at?

Cases Run soft case through the wash?

Post image
21 Upvotes

We’re fostering a litter of kittens, and one of them peed in/on my bass gig bag. It’s my fault, it was in a pile under the piano and if you have a 3 month old kitten brain it’s indistinguishable from any other soft, diggable surface more appropriate for peeing. I noticed right away, wiped it up, and sprayed the whole thing with Nature’s Miracle, but I’m wondering if it’s advisable to run it through the wash or would that mess up the foam inside? Currently it’s drying/airing out on my screened-in porch.

Instruments Having trouble figuring out what this is

Came up on some more old instruments. This bass is not together and has a hole or two in the body, but I’d imagine it’s still good for someone.

Can’t find any markings on it , was thinking of just taking into a string shop seeking info as I do live in the NC Mountains. Perhaps someone has some insight?

These are some of the guitars that were with it that may help age it

Any info is greatly appreciated

Thanks

Technique orchestral sight reading

hi everyone! i’ve been playing bass for ~3 years now and around ABRSM grade 8 standard. i’m at a specialist music school with first study bass and would say that my solo stuff is pretty solid, but the second i have to sight read i start stressing myself out and my mind totally blanks. i find semiquavers/irregular rhythms really tricky and it feels mentally exhausting having to put all my focus into subdividing whereas for others it seems to just come naturally. i understand that most of the people at my school have been playing for 3x the amount of time i’ve been playing for (meaning i am literally years behind in experience and practice), but the bass parts we play are often not even that difficult (eg elgar enigma variations, lamia by howell, liszt piano concerto 1 if anyone has played them/has any tips!) . has anyone got any recommendations for sight reading books/rep that would help me progress (hopefully) quite quickly??? thank you!

Other What is it like playing bass in a wind ensemble vs orchestra?

So I play string bass in my school's symphonic band/concert band/wind ensemble. The double basses are the only string instruments, except for a single violinist who, I believe, plays oboe parts. I usually get bass parts but a bit under half the time I have to play tuba parts.

I was wondering how different my experience would be to playing in a string/symphony orchestra. Obviously there would be other string instruments and I would always have a bass part but what else? How much more challenging would it be? Would I play a different musical role? (For me lots of whole notes in slow songs and root-fifth tuba bass lines in marches, occasionally something more interesting).

Technique Did I learn the Simandl Method?

Somebody asked me if I learned from the Simandl method and I'm trying to get clarity if my teacher was using that.

Decades ago when I was in college I played electric bass and got into the jazz program and learned double bass from the jazz teacher. I already played cello so I had some technique that crossed over. My teacher taught me good posture, raising the elbow, thumb placement, the 124 fingerings combining ring/pinky until thumb position. He taught me fingerings for all 12 major scales. We probably talked about 1/2 and first position but I don't remember a lot of emphasis on that terminology. Of course a lot of the lessons was jazz theory, transcribing and writing walking bass lines. He taught German but I played cello so I've stuck with French bow since. I don't remember doing etudes but we had so much ground to cover in jazz theory that's mostly what I remember.

We he teaching me with the Simandl Method or some of it?

Fun Dumb question: does anyone make an electric double bass with a built in battery + amp + cab?

Would the vibration from the speaker create an insurmountable feedback loop? I was just thinking this might make a fun project some day if it doesn't already exist somewhere.

Hi! I bought this bass recently, it seems to be very nicely made. It's fully carved, there's no marks or labels inside. I bought it from a music school in Austria, they didn't know where they got it from. Any info is appreciated

Instruments Recommendations for bow rehairs in the central Indiana area?

I know of Indy Violin and Paige’s in Indy, wonder if anyone can put in a good word for them.

I had one done by Quinlin and Fabish but the hair they used was breaking in ridiculous amounts, way more than it should.

I know the Bass Cellar is only a couple hours away so that may be where I go if no one has better recommendations.

Thanks

テンポはAllegro brillante(120~168)です。
