Audiobooks I can’t believe I’m just discovering this man

We have seen a slight uptick lately in people posting AI generated text walls, so I wanted to address it.
We do not allow any AI generated content. That’s just the rules. Yes, it also applies to you. No, it doesn’t matter that you think it’s really good.
My actual biggest issue is that some of these text posts are actually pretty interesting, subject-wise, and could spark good conversation, but the poster has felt the need to AI generate the post, instead of just writing it themselves!
Yes, it’s obvious. Even your text post that you totally wrote but just used AI to clean up a bit.
Stop it. Just write and post your own words. We’re not expecting you to be the next incarnation of Pratchett, and he would be the first to say that your own words, no matter how poorly written, are worth way more than some AI generated slop.
I’d love to have a conversation about the Unseen in ‘Unseen Academicals’ or the Librarian’s authority.
But I want to have that conversation with another human being, not their digital fluffer.
If Terry had been here to see the advent of AI, I imagine he’d have written some very funny and cutting OpEd pieces about it.
Let us read your words. Let us engage with you.
Peace.

UPDATE 23/04: I'll do another batch of requests tonight, so don't feel like you've missed the bus. It just takes a while 😂 I'm glad everyone is enjoying this!
+++
Subtitle: I'm bored and feeling a bit rubbish so I want to spread some cheer around
Do you want a custom flair in this community?
Think "GNU Pterry" or "An actual seamstress" or "Ho, the Megapode!". Text emojis such as 𓆉 or 𓃰 should also work
Stick the request in this thread, starting with "Flair:" and I'll change it for you
Rules: must be vaguely Discworld/Pratchett related and can't be offensive.
I will be copying your request exactly so make sure it's spelt and formatted correctly. Mini-caps and backwards/upside down text all work
+++
Quick update: Keep them coming, I'll respond to you when I've done it so you know! I might be a bit slow as it's me but I'll get round to you all!
Further update: You're all nice people and I'm sure you can share if someone already "has" the flair you want. There's like 62,000+ of you lot here. If we don't have duplicates I think we'd each need a sentence from the books!
Another update: I've created a monster... I appreciate all of you, you absolute looneys. May all your days be filled with nice things 💜

Todd (from Todd's workshop) made the Piecemaker and named it Susan. I am feeling whimsical and choose to believe there is some circle of references here, but either way neat to see how the mechanics of a round world version of it works.

Day 22. Beacon
These days everybody used the clacks, even little old ladies who used it to send him clacks messages complaining about all these newfangled ideas, totally missing the irony.

Reading "Unseen Academicals". What does it mean to get a "Brown"? Bear in mind that my degree is American; I did not attend a British university.
“Are you seriously suggesting that we give out degrees for mere physical prowess?” said the Chair of Indefinite Studies. “No, of course not. I am seriously suggesting that we give out degrees for extreme physical prowess. May I remind you that I rowed for this university for five years and got a Brown?”
“And what good did that do, pray?”
“Well, it does say ‘Archchancellor’ on my door. Do you remember why? The University Council at the time took the very decent view that it might be the moment for a leader who was not stupid, mad or dead. Admittedly, most of these are not exactly qualifications in the normal sense, but I like to think that the skill of leadership, tactics and creative cheating that I learned on the river also stood me in good stead. And thus for my sins, which I don’t actually remember committing but must have been quite crimson, I was at the top of a shortlist of one. Was that a choice of three cheeses, Mister Stibbons?”

Hi friends! I’m happy to share some progress on Unofficial Thud!
I’ve completely overhauled the menus, improved the graphics and lighting, and put together the components of the text content.
I’ve also reworked the design of the trolls, giving them a more "inorganic" look.
Right now, I’m focusing on debugging and refining the visual elements of the menus. I also plan to tweak the main button layout, as the current menu structure has become too deep, which makes it quite inconvenient to navigate.
You can find a link to a demo video in the comments.
Thanks for your interest!

We all know about Hogswatch but since Halloween is just over a week away I was wondering what a Discworld version of Halloween would look like (the closest I can find/remember to a mention of a similar holiday is All Fallow’s Eve where Witches & Wizards sleep in for the day) but what do you think other versions of Roundworld Halloween traditions would be like in the Discworld?
I for one can imagine that the Fresh Start Club & other Dead Rights activists are not too happy about the common costumes worn by people during parties.

Read Pyramids first, and it was awesome, minus the clunky ending.
G!G! being released right after was like coming home, but with a few changes that made all the difference. The style and the humour were pretty much the same as Pyramids, except this time the plot was a bit more solid. And I also got a few more fantasy-related jokes as well!
So yeah, I'm in. Got Mort, The Truth and Equal Rites awaiting in the shelf. I'm gonna go through each of these (in due time) so I can figure out which subseries do I want to tackle first fully. Probably gonna be Death's or the Witches, but G!G! certainly made a strong case for the City Watch sub-series (Carrot is best boy).
But yeah, I'm in for the ride! Now, time to find a copy of the adventure game...

Everyone is represented so far except the Wizards and Tiffany Aching (well the Wizards had B plots in both Death books but should those count?). Will we have a new arc represented next or our first repeat? Let's find out!
Just a reminder, we're making a (not so) definitive list of the Discworld books in order from best to worst.. The top rated comment gets added to the list next.
Also, before you make a top level comment suggesting a book, check to see if it's already been suggested. If it is, you're better off upvoting it and, if you want, replying to it with your reasoning for voting for it. But making a second (or third, or fourth) top level comment with a book that's already been suggested means your vote won't get counted! I only count the top upvoted comment!

Day 21. Hero
"But our guest, whose name is legend, must tell us truly: What is it that a man may call the greatest things in life?"
The guest paused in the middle of another unsuccessful attempt to light up.
"What shay? he said, toothlessly.
"I said: What is it that a man may call the greatest things in life?"
The warriors leaned closer. This should be worth hearing.
The guest thought long and hard and then said, with deliberation: "Hot water, good dentishtry and shoft lavatory paper.

Being Scottish I pick up most of the references made about the Nac Mac Feegles. Most Scottish Discworld fans likely know that the Feegle’s bard is referred to as *The Gonagall* because of Dundee’s famous (and famously terrible) resident poet William Topaz McGonagall. However today I was listening to *Wee Free Men* and something was oddly familiar - then I realised that the battle poetry used by Wee-er-Than-Medium-Jock-But-Bigger-Than-Wee-Jock-Jock (a trainee Gonagall) is a beat perfect lampoon of William McGonagall’s 1879 commemorative poem *The Tay Bridge Disaster* (you can read it for yourself here: https://en.wikisource.org/wiki/The_Tay_Bridge_Disaster )
As someone who reads a lot of Shakespeare I’ve always been impressed with Hwel’s grasp of iambic pentameter and the beautiful and realistically Renaissance verse of the small snippets we are given of his plays. But it was very pleasing to discover that Terry Pratchett is equally good at creating accurately the truly terrible verses of McGonagall.

Picture this, your favorite protagonist arrives home. They maybe take a short nap or rest. When they return to the room they wete previously in they find a note that wasn't there earlier that reads
"I'm hiding somewhere in your house"
How utterly, colossally screwed is our would be Ghostface?

I think I might have found a remnant of future ideas of the grand master.
That’s from the Discworld bestiary. I can’t recall that Moist von Lipwig ever had been put in charge of the sewers. So this remark might have been an indication for some planned Moisture von Lipwig book.
I wouldn’t be too surprised if he was meant to be in charge of the Ankh-Morpork underground system

So I know there are special cases for visits like with witches et al but otherwise what warrants a personal visit from him?

I don't usually comment during voting, as not to influence the results, but I want to point out that Hogfather is by a large margin my LEAST favorite Discworld book. However, it looks like I'm in the minority here, so continue on!

I’m re-reading the witch series for Halloween, and there’s a line on pg 73 of my paperback copy of Wyrd Sisters that must mean something, but it’s beyond me. Referring to the taxman who tried, and failed, to collect from the witches: “Lord Felmet’s fascination was to him what a pin is to a Purple Emperor.” Thank you, sharper brains than mine, in advance!
