Rules and Content Policy

In this page you'll find our rules and content policy with more detail. Despite its length, we've tried to maintain it as simple and straightforward as possible, and you'll notice most things are fairly easy to follow for being pretty regular. Remember, you are also subject to site wide Reddit rules as well as your particular local, state, and federal laws. We will assume some level of adult common sense in how you approach the rules. If you have any questions, contact our team for clarity.

1. Site Wide Rules Apply.

Ensure your posts follow site wide reddit rules: https://redditinc.com/policies/reddit-rules

2. Be Nice.

Our community prides itself on its diversity and ability to help each other grow. Content should be respectful to that diversity which includes nationality, race, creed, sexual orientation, and skill level to name a few.

Only offer critiques when asked.

Any acts of hate towards others or blatant vitriol towards your fellow person will be warned or banned depending on the severity.

You know the difference between nice and not nice.

3. Digital Art Only

Art must be created using digital tools or within a digital space. Physical elements can be used in digital art (photography, drawing, etc) so long as its transformed in a considerable way that creates a uniquely digital piece. When posting, review the flair for digital art mediums.

References should be the second posted image.

Questions and discussions are allowed. Be concise and direct with your questions. Posts that purposely attempt to create division or vitriolic debate isn't allowed.

3. No AI Content

Our focus is not to be anti Ai, it is to be pro human-made digital art. Ai is baked into the tools we use daily, its general usage is inevitable. Any blatant attempt to use generative Ai tools for art creation is strictly disallowed. Faking digital art creation videos to 'prove' your process is real will be an instant ban. You know the difference between human made and Ai made, there is no debate.

Ai discussion is allowed in comments but not as an original post.

4. No NFTs or Crypto

NFT promotion is not allowed, including art linked to NFT collections promoted elsewhere online.

5. No Promotion or Selling

Our space serves two primary purposes: To share unique digital art and to discuss the craft of digital art.

Do not sell, promote, distribute, or use the community in ways that push them to act or click through to another place.

Do not discuss the business of digital art including marketing, pricing, publishing, etc. This is a 'Trojan Horse' for self promotion.

Use our monthly pinned megathread to do the above activities.

Disallowed:

  • Social media links
  • Follower requests
  • Upvote fishing
  • Art sales/Etsy links
  • Physical merchandise
  • Kickstarter/GoFundMe
  • Tutorials for sale
  • Portfolios
  • Commissions
  • Free requests
  • Price listings or price inquiries, or Fiverr links
  • Social Media logos in Artwork
  • Surveys
  • Any links

Allowed:

  • You may credit yourself with a handle (e.g., u/YourName, @ YourName) inside artwork and description (no links).
  • In comments, you may say "follow me on (social media). My user name is (@username). Again, no links.

6. Original Artwork Only

Post only your own work. Do not copy or heavily reference others' work. The exceptions are tracings so long as you post a reference image as the secondary image and photobashing. In both cases, cite the artists name without linking to them. Asking "who made this work" or "what is this style" is not allowed.

7. NSFW is Allowed (With Rules)

Content allowed with exceptions. Complaints will be deleted. Report content and comments that break the rules.

What is NSFW? If you have to question it, its NSFW. If what you are creating can't be seen by a small child or in a natural public setting, its NSFW.

  • All NSFW content MUST be tagged.
  • Pornographic content (explicit sexual acts as primary purpose) is not allowed. Erotic/suggestive artwork is welcome.
  • Do not create explicit sexual content depicting real people's likenesses.
  • Gore is allowed up to a child-friendly Halloween level (blood and bones are okay; graphic mutilation or extreme violence is not).
  • Art that depicts minors or fan art of characters who are canonically underage is STRICTLY PROHIBITED.
  • Social commentary is allowed that may be vulgar and sensitive so long as its not a threat on the lives of others.
  • Mods will use discretion when moderating NSFW content.
  • No complaining about approved NSFW content. Calling art "gooner art" or other pejoratives counts as complaining.
  • Report NSFW content if you feel it breaks the rules.
  • Do not create content depicting minors. This includes canonically underage characters from fiction or non-fiction stories.

8. Title Your Posts and Expand on Your Topic

Use meaningful titles. Avoid vague titles ("what do you think?"), age questions (unless 90+), complaint/fishing ("nobody likes my art"), self-deprecation, and links in titles. Low effort posts including "what is the best tool" are disallowed. Be specific and to the point. Research before posting a question. Its likely been answered many times over.

9. Posting Frequency

Wait 48 hours between posts. You have a 5-minute grace period to fix mistakes after posting. Do not repeatedly repost the same work. Repost original artwork only after 3 months.

10: Enforcement:

Moderators will enforce the above rules as they see fit and use their own discretion.
