Family Paid Study in Atlanta! Get paid $120 + $150 per child

We are currently looking for people to participate in our Encore Onsite study in Dearborn, MI.

What is the study about?
This study focuses on recording natural movement and expressions to create high-quality datasets. You will participate in a series of walking activities while being recorded on video, in a large room with controlled lighting.

Task Description:
If you agree to enroll and are selected, you will be asked to participate in a moderated session; that will take up to 90 minutes. Our onsite moderator will guide you through scenarios and coordinate the video recording. During the session, you will be taken through a variety of scenarios and asked to complete them in a natural manner.

Who is eligible?
To participate, you, the parent or guardian, should meet the following qualifying criteria:

  • Are at least 18 years old.
  • Be the legal guardian of the child(ren) you are registering, are able to attend the study with your child for the entire study visit, and sign the Parental Consent Form.
  • Be able to travel to the study location in Dearborn for a scheduled onsite session.

Each child you register should meet the following qualifying criteria:

  • Is at least 13 years old.
  • Is fluent in English.

How much is the compensation?
The adult and minor sessions are separate sessions, the adult in the pair must come to the site twice, once by themselves (for their session) and once with the child (for the child’s session). As the child cannot be left unattended while the adult completes their session, the child session will most likely happen on separate days. The compensation is setup to cover that.

  • Adult participating alone (one session): $100 USD
  • Adult participating with a child in two separate sessions:
    • Adult session: $120 USD
    • Child session: $150 USD (paid to the adult)

Adult participants are age 18 or older and child participants are under the age of 18.

What Recruiters Look for in a Resume and What Happens Before They Look

The most quoted resume statistic, about seven seconds per resume, comes from a 2018 Ladders eye-tracking test of 30 recruiters which measured an average of 7.4 seconds on the first review. It is a small sample, describing a step many resumes never reach.

The search comes first

Online applications usually land in an applicant tracking system. Recruiters search it by keyword, title and qualification, then read the results. Relevant experience described in words other than the posting’s is less likely to appear. Spelling an acronym out once, as in “Kubernetes (K8s)”, lets a search for either form find it.

Then the seven seconds

Once a resume is opened, the Ladders test found attention going mostly to a few fields: current title, most recent company, dates and education. A bullet with a percentage, amount or headcount tells a quick reader more than one that begins “Responsible for.”

A closer read asks other questions. Do the scope and seniority fit, not just the job family? Are the tools recent? Is the writing free of typos?

Order matters

Many applicants start with layout. Two-column designs, tables and text boxes can scramble text when the system extracts it. Standard headers, a single column and the posting’s own terms serve the search. Quantified results and a readable career line serve the person.

ZoeVera’s guide to what recruiters look for in a resume . To see which of a posting’s terms your resume lacks before you apply, ZoeVera Resume compares the two and lists the gaps.

Looking for extra work

Hi everyone! 😊 I’m looking for some ideas or recommendations for extra work in the Metro Detroit area.
I currently work as a building sub during the week, and I’m looking to make some extra money on Saturdays. I’m open to something besides babysitting and would ideally like to find something for just a couple of hours on Saturday, if possible.
I live in the Hazel Park area, so something nearby would be great. I’m open to different types of work, so if you know of any places, jobs, or opportunities that might be a good fit, I’d really appreciate your recommendations! Thank you! ❤️

It seems hard to find a phlebotomist tech here in Michigan. Does anyone go in to this field anymore or is it the area/state?

What keywords actually show up in job postings?

A recent analysis of 3,518 job postings from 81 companies across seven roles found some interesting patterns.

In several categories, generic terms appeared more often than the big-name tools. “Observability” showed up more than “Grafana,” while “SIEM” appeared more than “Splunk.”

That raises an interesting question: are resumes too focused on listing specific tools and not enough on the broader skills and terminology employers use?

The study breaks down the results by role, including software engineering, cybersecurity, DevOps, marketing, product, accounting and sales.

Counted the tools named in 134 DevOps and SRE job postings

I kept seeing arguments about which parts of the stack still matter, so I counted instead of guessing. 134 open DevOps, SRE and platform engineering postings from 41 company job boards. Individual contributors only, managers and TPMs stripped out.

The old toolchain is thinner than I expected. Terraform appears in 62.7% of postings. Jenkins in 3%. Chef 3.7%. Puppet in exactly one of the 134. GitHub Actions is named about six times as often as Jenkins.

Python beats Go, 70.9% to 47%.

What surprised me more: the generic word outranks the products. Observability shows up in 63.4%, more than twice as often as Grafana, the most-named tool that provides it. Prometheus 22.4%, Datadog 17.9%. Same pattern I found counting security postings, where SIEM beat Splunk four to one.

The top term isn't a tool at all: automation, 81.3%, ahead of AWS.

Caveats worth stating: n=134 means everything carries roughly +/-8, so treat close rows as tied. It's also all tech companies on one ATS. Banks, telcos and government run enormous amounts of Jenkins and Ansible, and none of them are in this sample.

Detroit-area makers, artists, weirdos, and small businesses — I’m looking for you.

I’m putting together the first Makers & Misfits Market on Sunday, September 20th, 10am–5pm at Honest John’s in Detroit, and I’m looking for vendors!

The idea is pretty simple: bring together a bunch of cool local people making, creating, selling, and doing their own thing. Handmade goods, art, prints, jewelry, ceramics, crochet, clothing, home goods, candles, plants, oddities, food, drinks, books — if you make it, create it, or have a small business built around it, I want to hear from you.

It’s a family-friendly, outdoor market and the goal is to create a fun space where people can discover local creators and actually connect with the community.

Vendor spaces are $75 for a 10x10 spot. Vendors provide their own table, chairs, tent, displays, etc. No outlets are available.

No resale vendors — this is specifically for people who make or create their own stuff. So no Temu/Depop-style reselling.

If you’re interested in vending, comment below or DM me and I’ll send you the application/info.

And if you know someone who would be a good fit, tag them! I’m trying to fill this thing with as many cool local misfits as possible.

Affordable Dental Care

Hey everyone! Im a dental student at the University of Detroit Mercy, and I’m currently looking for patients for our dental school clinic.

If you’re due for a cleaning or haven’t had a dental check-up in a while, I’d be happy to give you some more info! We see patients for a variety of treatments, including exams, X-rays, cleanings, fillings, crowns, root canals, dentures, and emergency care.

Everything is done under the supervision of licensed dentists, and because it’s a dental school clinic, treatment is offered at a reduced cost. You don’t need to have dental insurance to be seen.

If you’re interested or just have questions about how the clinic works, feel free to message me — I’m happy to explain!

Detroit Website Usability Study — Paid

Hi Detroit,

I recently launched a local car-detailing business and am looking for someone in the Detroit area to help me conduct a small website usability study.

The goal is to get feedback from roughly 50 different people on a newly designed website. Participants would spend about 5 minutes going through the site and sharing their thoughts on things like:

How easy it is to navigate

Whether the information is clear

What stands out or is confusing

What would make the site more useful

Overall first impressions

I'm looking for someone who can help recruit participants and coordinate the responses. They could be people you already know or others in the local community who are willing to participate.

I'd pay a few hundred dollars for the project, with flexibility depending on how much recruitment/coordination is involved. If it works out well, there may be opportunities to help with similar research projects in the future.

If you're interested, feel free to comment or send me a PM.

Thanks!

Looking for a Detroit area Paralegal for Probate Court help

Does anyone know where I can find a local Paralegal to help me? ...

I'd like someone in the Detroit area who can help me file some basic accounting forms for the Wayne County Probate Court (Conservatorship) 1-2xs per year. I have the forms already completed, and I just need someone to look them over and make sure everything looks OK, and then put a cover sheet with it. I'll even file it, that's easiest.

If you know someone who can help, please let me know. Thank you.
