Willemstad (founded in 1634) is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and worth at least a full day. Key areas to explore include Punda, Otrabanda, Pietermaai, and Kura Hulanda Village.
Walking tours, e-bike tours, and tuk-tuk tours are all popular ways to get around the city.

Where is Curaçao located?
Curaçao is a stunning Caribbean island in the southern Lesser Antilles, just 40 miles (65 km) north of Venezuela, alongside neighbors Aruba and Bonaire.
When’s the best time to visit?
Curaçao enjoys warm weather year-round. May to November is off-peak, with fewer crowds, lower prices, and a more relaxed vibe. December to April offers the driest weather but is peak season.
Do I need a visa?
No visa is required for citizens of the U.S., Canada, or EU countries for stays up to 90 days within a 180-day period. Travelers from other nations should check visa requirements with the nearest Embassy or Consulate of the Netherlands, as Curaçao is part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
Is a Digital Immigration Card required?
Yes, all international visitors must complete the Digital Immigration Card (DI Card) online within 7 days prior to departure at dicardcuracao.com/dicard. It’s mandatory for entry and distinct from the optional Airside Digital Identity App, which speeds up immigration with facial recognition.
What currency is used?
As of March 31, 2025, the official currency will be the Caribbean Guilder (Cg or "Florin Karibense"), replacing the Netherlands Antillean Guilder (ANG) at a 1:1 exchange rate. The ANG will remain valid until June 30, 2025, and can be exchanged at banks for a year after that. U.S. dollars are widely accepted, and major credit cards work almost everywhere.
What languages are spoken in Curaçao?
The official languages are Dutch, Papiamentu, and English. Spanish is widely spoken, and many hospitality workers are learning Brazilian Portuguese due to growing tourism from Brazil.
Can I fish here?
Yes, fishing is allowed with restrictions. Shore fishing doesn’t require a permit for personal use, but boat fishing or commercial fishing does. Check local regulations at the Curaçao Tourism Board or with fishing tour operators.
Should I rent a car?
While not essential, renting a car is highly recommended to explore the island’s hidden gems and beaches at your own pace. Public transport exists but is limited.
Are there ride-sharing apps like Uber or Lyft?
No, Curaçao doesn’t have Uber or Lyft. Taxis are available but expensive—always agree on the fare beforehand.
How does public transportation work?
Large buses ("Konvooi") run fixed routes hourly; check schedules at autobusbedrijf.com. Smaller vans (marked "BUS" on plates) operate without fixed schedules or routes—ask the driver for your destination. Pay in cash (Cg or USD).
Check out Shuttle and Airport Transfers
What should I know about driving?
What about parking downtown?
Parking in Punda and Otrobanda is paid via coins or an app (credit card required)—machines don’t accept bank cards. A free public lot in Punda is available, though space is limited due to a seasonal go-kart track (as of March 2025).

What tours are available?

What are the best beaches to visit?
Don’t miss Playa Porto Marie, Cas Abou, Santa Cruz, Grote Knip, Kleine Knip, and Playa Kalki—each offers crystal-clear waters and unique vibes.
Can I snorkel from the shore?
Absolutely! Beaches like Playa Porto Marie and Cas Abou have vibrant coral reefs and marine life just steps from the sand.
Are there boat or snorkeling tours?
Yes, numerous operators offer boat trips and snorkeling excursions. Book ahead, especially during peak season, to secure your spot.

--
Is Curaçao safe for tourists?
Generally, yes. Curaçao is tourist-friendly, but use common sense—keep valuables out of sight and stay alert in unfamiliar areas. Don’t leave items in visible car seats; use the trunk, as smash-and-grab thefts occur at beaches and hiking spots.
Are there health risks to watch out for?
No major concerns, but stay up-to-date on routine vaccinations and pack mosquito repellent for evenings.
Is the tap water safe to drink?
Yes, Curaçao’s tap water is distilled from seawater and meets top safety standards—drink up!
--
Where can I eat late at night?
After 10 PM, options include:
Most other places close early; some minimarkets stay open until 11 PM.
--
Does Curaçao have a cruise port?
Yes, Willemstad’s cruise terminal includes:
How close is the cruise port to Willemstad?
Very close! Mega Piers are a short walk to the Handelskade waterfront. Mathey Wharf is steps from Punda’s historic streets.
What’s there to do near the cruise port?
Are there day tours for cruise passengers?
Yes! Options include snorkeling at Playa Piskado (famous for turtles), rugged jeep safaris, or guided city tours. Book through your cruise line or local operators in advance.

Hi everyone!
I’ll be spending one day in Curaçao and would love your recommendations for two restaurants: one for lunch and one for dinner.
I’d love to try authentic local Curaçao food at one, and something different for the other, a more upscale dining experience.
If you could only recommend two restaurants, which would you choose?
Thank you in advance for your recommendations!

My soon-to-be wife and I are going to DTMF on Halloween. Has anyone here experienced the festival?

I'm considering doing either the Aquafari or Sea Trek tour while there in April. Has anyone done either of these, and if so, do you recommend either, or should I just stick with snorkeling on my own for free?

What has ever got people thinking Curaçao is a walkable island? I swear I see 20 posts a day in different facebook groups asking whether you need to rent a car, whether you can get to the beach without one etc etc 😅
So I’m really curious: where does this perception come from? Is it something people read online, something travel agencies tell them, or is it based on where they’re staying and what they plan to do?
I’m not trying to be rude or judge anyone for asking. I just find it interesting that so many people seem to arrive with the impression that Curaçao is an island where you can easily get everywhere on foot or without your own transportation, and as a local, I’m genuinely curious where that idea originated.

Hi everyone!
We're planning a two-week trip to Curaçao in January and looking for accommodation in a quiet area, preferably around Westpunt.
Ideally, we'd like a comfortable apartment or small resort with an ocean view and direct access to the water for swimming and snorkeling, away from crowded beaches and large resorts.
We've considered Punta Azul and Marazul Dive Resort but would love to hear about other options.
Any recommendations based on personal experience?
Thanks!

We recently came back from our second trip to Curacao and we’re already planning to go again because we love it so much! Some of the beaches we went to this time, Mambo (we stayed there), Cas Abao, Grote Knip, Piskado, Playa Lagun, and Tugboat beach. Last time we were there, we weren’t a big fan of Kokomo because it was packed, but we did get there pretty late in the day, and next time We deff want to give it another chance, since we heard the snorkeling was great there as well. So here’s a little of what we saw snorkeling….

I am not too keen on sponsoring Musk, but we have had quite a few outages (Flow) in the past couple of months in our neighborhood (Jan Thiel)...... and it seems cheaper.

The address system is a mess though.
Two tiers available. 100 and max. Prices are decent and within normal ranges for the whole region
They have issues with the local addresses. Open a ticket. Make them add your address manually. THEN use your of not the app or phone . Follow the links. I was able to activate my old dish.

My husband and I are visiting in the Spring and are currently planning our trip. In visits to Europe, we have loved beach clubs. However, we’ve stayed in places where the beaches weren’t necessarily the best quality, so the beach club was meant to make up for that by providing more to the experience. It seems like there are lots of stunning natural beaches in Curacao that are low cost to visit. That being said, is it worth it to do a beach club? We are staying in Piscadera so will already have beach access with cabanas at our resort but we love the vibe / service component of beach clubs. Haven’t stayed at a resort in a Caribbean before so not sure if the resort already has enough similarities to a beach club that we’d be paying for something we essentially already have

Hi all,
My wife and I are going to Curaçao in January and we are still deciding on our stay. For now we narrow it down to Punta Azul Ocean Resort or Lagoon Ocean Resort as we would like to be somewhere in the west/north and it is inside our budget (around 150/180$ per night).
Has anyone stayed in any of these resorts?
We will be having a car, so we will be visiting all the different beaches. So that is not an issue.
The distance to Willemstad is pretty much the same from both and we dont think that we will be travelling to the city more that 2/3 times.
Also if anyone has any other recommendation on a similar kind of resort around these areas, we will appreciate that information.
Thanks!

Coming to Curacao with my husband in a few days from the US. Two questions-
1. I’m assuming my phone’s data won’t work. My internet provider is Verizon. Do I need a different SIM card?
2. Do I need an adapter for my phone charger? I have USB-C.

Any idea on how to find a person that also visited the island 🏝️ at the same time I did. Are there any sites for miss connection. We both visiting Curacao 🇨🇼 same week (she was with the group of girls) awe saw each other in the plane and briefly spoke during the layover in Miami airport (Oct 7, 2026) she was flying to Charlotte NC.
Any advice would be appreciated it.

Hey! :)
Hey, I (28 years) moved to Curaçao in august and will live here for one year. During my year here I would like to follow Contemporary/modern dance classes. Does anyone know whether there is a dance school that offers these classes for adults? :)
Thanks in advance!

Hey I just moved to Curazao and I have had realised that the party scene is a bit ‘normie’, which is okay sometimes, but maybe not every weekend.
I’m looking for something a bit more underground, maybe not in a club, but someone is organising good stuff? For reference, I used to go to Berlin and dance a lot (no, i’m not expecting the same ofc) I like house, techno, minimal, trance even… artists like marcellus pittman, villalobos, satoshi tomiiee…
I know it’s a long shot, but maybe you know someone who knows someone. And If you don’t know but you are interested, let’s do something fun! I’m happy to build something every now and then.

I'm looking for a local who rents cars directly, or a budget-friendly rental company. I need it for 11 days, starting on November 22nd
