FortKnox: A 312 move king maze puzzle. Can you break in?

Post image

A few weeks ago I posted this post (https://www.reddit.com/r/ChessPuzzles/comments/1wsqm9q/quest_for_the_longest_king_maze_50_prise/) about the search for the longest king maze. u/crazy_gambit then found this really cool 276 move puzzle (https://lichess.org/study/4OJ9m6F9/SLxQoABy), which extended the original with a beautiful new idea and won the £50 prize. Since then I have been working on a new idea to try to beat it, and I have composed the puzzle above, which I claim takes 312 moves. That's over the 300 move barrier!

FEN: Q6R/1PRPNBP1/KNbpprB1/1Rr1nPR1/1QbBprP1/1QrpNpR1/pPP2kB1/N1R1n2R w - - 0 1

The rules are the same as before:

  1. Standard chess rules apply, however only king moves are allowed for each side.
  2. White wins if they can get their king to a specified goal square (e3 for this king maze).
  3. Black wins if they can prevent White from reaching the goal square, including by stalemating or checkmating themself so that there are no more legal king moves.

To solve a king maze you must play both sides and find the shortest forced victory for White (white to play).

There's a catch this time. White's own knight is sitting on e3, so the only way in is to force the black king to capture it first. The black king starts right next to the knight on f2, just one move away, and yet I claim it takes 312 moves to make it happen.

I am not posting a solution here. Instead I am posting this as a puzzle. Can you show that White is able to force the black king to capture the knight on e3 and go on to reach the goal square?

I'd also love for someone to prove me wrong. If you can find a faster win for White, or a longer defence for Black, please post it! Please use spoiler tags for solutions. I'll post the solution in a week or so.

Good luck!

6 Increasingly Difficult Puzzles for Master-Level Players

This is an exercise that I made using puzzles that I created for master-level players to improve their endgame skills. Try to find the forced win or draw for white in each position. This exercise is intended to take approximately 30 minutes to complete. The first puzzle is beginner, the second is intermediate, the third is advanced, the fourth is expert, the fifth is master, and the last is master+.* *
Good luck!

White to move. A very easy tactic, but this kind of moves are usually very easy to miss in games.

I stared at this one for ages and still wasn't sure. Would you go straight for the king or deal with the queen first? Curious what you'd play.

Absurd little position I found when analyzing an endgame from one of my games! Do yourself a favour and do not check the engine but try to think it through yourself. Also use spoilers when answering!
